Why Delawareans Support Castle
Mar 13th, 2010 by David Anderson
Let’s see I support Mike Castle because he has been around forever, is a trial lawyer, is a fiscal conservative, and loves Delaware. I don’t agree with him sometimes, but he will do. That sounds like a great campaign commercial to me. Seriously, it wasn’t quiet that bad, but it wasn’t far off. This is from the Castle Campaign. Watch and enjoy O’Donnell supporters. If this is the best they have as a rationale…. Go back to the drawing board Castle supporters. Just some free advice. Feel free not to take it, but if you do make it past the primary I want you to win in November.

O’Donnell is an empty suit spouting conservative mantras without any plans. The energy plans from her 2010 web-site are leftovers from previous campaigns (but so are her debts!). We don’t need to build new refineries when the existing ones are being shut down. Ethanol from corn crashed and burned in Delaware. She is as big an unknown as the Obamanation was prior to the election. Delaware conservatives would be better served with Castle voting 70% for them in Washington as opposed to O’Donnell who has no chance in the general election. She ain’t no Scott Brown who by the way is far left of Castle. It takes a lot of money to run an effective campaign, and her inability to do so dooms her to failure. O’Donnell is the left’s dream candidate.
Brown to the left of Castle? That is a joke. Brown supported a constitutional amendment protecting marriage. He supported conscience clauses to protect those professional providers who object to abortion and contraceptives. He was a leader against Obama care not a follower. He is an opponent of abortion funding. He is not proposing any gun control. Did he sign on to cap and trade and the energy tax?
As for O’Donnell, you have the wrong post. This one is about Mr. Castle and his messaging. By the way why would she change positions on energy? Have the facts changed? Your blinding insight is what is wrong with politics.
Anbupro says,”Delaware conservatives would be better served with Castle voting 70% for them in Washington”. Anbupro you need to do a little research on that 70% number. Instead of repeating what you may have read in the liberal News Journal, you might want to actualy look at the break down of how Mr. Castle achieves that 70%. If you look at the actual congressional records you will see that yes Mr.Castle votes with the GOP on most amendments. But when it comes time for an up or down vote on a particular bill, such as cap and trade, he goes with the Democrats a large amount of the time.
Experience in this case is just another way of saying that he has been there too long.
Why would we want to send a man back who has been in office all of this time and has been a part of creating this mess? I believe that it is time to make real changes.
It is not the supporters fault. They never had a rationale. He is a nice guy who gave us cool quarters and loves finding ways to use tax money to kill little babies. There is not much more to tell.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting a different outcome. It’s the “experienced politicians” that have gotten us where we are today.
In oder to stop the insanity and break the cycle, we need to examine the process. The problem is systemic.
In the state of Delaware, the people do not have a voice in the political process until September which is very late in the election cycle. This process is designed for incumbant protection. A September primary certainly favors the Castle machine. It’s difficult for a challenger to stay in the race and have to expend money and energy all summer to primary Castle and run against Carney.
If the people of Delaware really want to break the current cycle of doing the same old thing. Then lobby for a spring primary! Let your voice and your vote be heard early enough so the candidate of your choice can run a good race against the Dems.
Until the voters take back their own right to have a voice early in the election cycle it will be difficult for them vote for a new generation of republicans. It can be done, but will take extraordinary effort to keep the candidate of their choice financially viable and visable state-wide through the September primary.
Perhaps candidates running for both state and federal offices should make moving the primary to spring a plank in their platforms. Now we are talking real change on behalf of the people.
Agreed ! The primary should be held before the convention. This would allow the voice of the people to be heard before the voice of the party machine.

David, Brown is pro choice, you can split hairs over specifics, but in the end, that’s his stand. Castle is also against Obamacare, just like Brown. And Brown voted for cap and trade for his home state of Mass, so I would expect him to do the same in the US Senate.
And didn’t Brown vote for the jobs bill that Castle voted against?
I have fought for a spring primary for years but alas it will never happen.
The legislature won’t go for anything which puts their jobs at risk. They prefer to go to Dover, spend and waste our money during the spring and early summer then hope we all forget by September. They also know how hard it is to organize and campaign through the summer.
Every one knows nothing of any consequence happens until after 15 June. Primary should be first week of May.

It is not splitting hairs. Except for personhood, the whole pro-life agenda is around the idea of conscience and informed choice. Brown has been a leader in those areas. Castle has been an opponent. There would be no real difference in voting between a pro-choice legislator, who favors conservative judges and conscience clauses, opposes funding, opposes late term abortion, and favors parental notification and informed consent laws, and a pro-life one.
As for the federal cap and trade, it is not like most of the state proposals. It is much more expansive and does not limit itself to regulated utilities. I bet you that he will not favor the federal carbon tax and has not joined to resurrect cap and trade. I am just going by the facts not what you wish were true. We shall see.
Remember, I will vote for the Republican nominee in November. I said that repeatedly including in this piece. My criticism is mild and intended to inspire not tear down.
I did an analysis of O’Donnell’s campaign with the same outlook. I emailed it to her so I am not sure that it will need to be published. If she responds to it, there will be no reason to do so. If she does not, you will read it soon enough.
As for the jobs bill, it was a good start. I favor it. Castle opposing it shows me that he is out of touch. Brown understands that growth is the way to cutting the deficit. Castle does not. Remember that I criticized him for opposing the Republican stimulus package. I am pro-growth. That is why I oppose cap and tax. That is why I oppose this health bill. That is why I opposed the debt laden stimulus package which did not address the underlying problems.
You are being way too simplistic in your read of me. That may be my fault. We have a lot of new readers. I may have to do policy series on Applying the Constitution in the 21st century.
