When will they Let Christine Be Christine?
Jun 22nd, 2010 by David Anderson
I like Christine O’Donnell. She is smart, charming, and a
full spectrum modern conservative. She has star power. She is has one of the best minds for public policy in the state. She hasn’t had it easy. She has had to overcome setbacks and disappointments some thrust upon her and a few of her own making (like most people who made it past 1). She may have come from an “ordinary” family but she is extraordinary in her grasp of public policy and the problems facing our nation and even our world. If I didn’t know her, I would have no clue from the campaign so far. One of my blog colleagues asked to do a guest post. I usually don’t run most of the submissions. I feel that we have great contributors and I want something of unique value or something that will impact public debate. Whether I agree or disagree is immaterial to my choice of running the post.
I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with Michael’s guest opinion. His basic premise that we need to see Christine’s vision is right. It is vital. We all get that she thinks Mr. Castle is a liberal not a moderate. Unlike my associate, I feel that the challenger has to make the case why the opponent is flawed. Where I agree is that the next step has to be that vision thing. Republicans want to win. Mike Castle wins. Ms. O’Donnell has to show why Republicans should take a chance. How will America be better.
She has thoughtful positions on energy, tax reform, national defense, family policy, and protecting our national independence. I know because I have conversed with her for hours over the years. That is why she won the poll of the tea party group that actually listened to her. The problem is that most people have no idea where she stands. Her website used to say that, but it is being redesigned and is stripped of issues. People who actually go to a website want to know issues. They are not people walking by at a shopping center with 2 kids pulling them who just want to say hi and get along. They are the people who will give, vote, and volunteer or not if you don’t impress them.
The campaign has not told her personal story. They have not let her shine on the issues. If she is going to pull an upset victory, there is only one way it will happen. Let Christine be Christine.

Amen
When has Christine ever NOT been stating her positions on issues? That’s all she has done for many years now.
David who are “they”??? How have they stopped Christine from being Christine???
David:
Christine has weathered much adversity, some of it of her own making.
I liken the Christine haters to a pack of hounds on a blood trail. They don’t realize that she does as you have stated, that she has star power and has the power within herself to take this race to the finish and win it.
I also have spoken to her at length. I sat beside her for four hours at the Pastors and Leaders Lunch at the Sheraton in Dover and you are correct. She has an uncanny grasp of both national and global politics. She is a natural speaker and can capture an audience’s attention and keep it as long as she is speaking.
It would be a loss for Delaware to lose that kind of talent to a pack of hounds out for blood for just the sport of it.
The thing about her that I like is that she is not a quitter and that is a great asset to have in Washington.
Forgive me for the rudeness today but I have to ask “who cares”? Voters are looking for solutions not drama because these are tough times and they are going to get tougher with the crowd in charge right now.
The primary field is wide open. Work hard, get the message out and the results will come. I was out door knocking today in 90+ heat and I was happy to do it, voters expect it and deserve to see candidates work hard.
It is indeed unfortunate that many of the GOP regulars use personal agendas to attack another GOP candidate. I wish we would expend 10% of our energy going after our own team members and go after the other side a bit more aggressively. Believe it or not there are more districts where Independents out number Republicans than districts where R’s outnumber D’s.
Mr Castle’s positions and voters are well noted. Some good and some bad. Now I have to ask what specific votes would be executed differently and if so what would those translate to for the average voter.
In 2006 during the primary I was advised many many times to go after Christine but I did not and it cost me the primary win. I concentrated on Ting who I always thought was a bit of liberal and a Republican of convenience. I hope he is happy with the Democrats.
Thanks, Mike Protack
Hey David, glad to hear your annual active Army training went well. Thanks again for your service. It’s my understanding that both you (note your picture above of Christine which you must have taken at a recent event) and Mike have seen Christine. That she has talked about the issues on numerous occasions throughout Delaware, and it’s also my understanding that Borgia was at the Brandywine GOP function where Christine spoke & it was Jeff Dayton who was trying to defend Castle’s horrible voting record. (In fact Mike even challenged him on that.) Christine was also talking about the issues at the First State Patriots’ event at the Frog Hollow Golf Club (which if I’m not mistaken Mike was also at), & where was Castle?! The fact of the matter is David, Christine is offering solutions & Career Politician Mike Castle has a record that he cannot defend to us Republicans ( http://removerinos.com/CastleM.html ). I say if he wants to do an Arlen Specter than more power to him because that’s where his voting record belongs.
I don’t disagree. My problem is that most people who vote will never go to an event where they actually get policy. They will do it from home. They get a flyer and go to web to find out more. They hear something from a friend on Facebook and check it out. The people who go to events love her. Why does her website not have videos? Why is not the campaign show casing her? She is one attractive candidate (I mean that politically). Let people be drawn in.
Good song, but it doesn’t make me think of Christine .
Christine has ‘star power?’
..she is extraordinary in her grasp of public policy and the problems facing our nation and even our world. If I didn’t know her, I would have no clue from the campaign so far.
Nobody else has a ‘clue,’ either; that’s the problem. ‘Star?’ Not.
