What a Joke

The Democrats are playing the same games with the Cap-and-Trade bill (aka the American Pocketbook Emptying Act) that they did with the stimulus bill (aka the Great American Democratic Interest Group Treasury Raid). Somehow the bill added 500 pages over the last few days, no one has read it, and it has been agreed to anyway.
Okay, Dems. You’re in power. You won the election. But don’t pretend there’s anything noble or becoming about what you’re doing or how you’re doing it. And never, NEVER, let the words openness or transparency pass your lips again.

Tyranny is spelled D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T on the national level. What else do you call pushing life altering legislation which will control every aspect of our life without even giving people a chance to read it let alone debate it.
DA,
Unfortunately, it’s not one sided.
The Patriot Act, and the TARP were both passed unread under Pres Bush and for the Patriot Act the R’s had the house and senate.
it’s not new, but it is getting worse.
I always wonder what (if any) effect that writing to one’s Congressman has, but FWIW this is what I sent via Mike Castle’s site this morning:
Dear Congressman Castle,
I would like to express my total and vehement opposition to H.R. 2454, the boondoggle of a bill oddly titled the “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009”.
The fact that it is now over 1,000 pages and is being suspiciously fast-tracked by the House leadership is enough to give one pause. There is absolutely no way that anyone, not even a speed reader, could possibly read let alone digest the contents of this legislation and reflect upon all of its possible ramifications.
As Northwestern University law professor James Lindgren has noted:
“Recognize that the cost of the cap-and-trade system far exceeds the tax collected from those who are willing to pay the money just to exceed the limits set by the government.
The businesses that do not buy indulgences face the cost of the restrictions themselves.
If Obama succeeds in his quest to reduce carbon emissions by 83% by 2050, American business will be destroyed. Manufacturing in the US will essentially disappear to countries that do not have anti-business, anti-growth policies, mostly in the Far East.
It would be hard to imagine a government policy that is likely to be more destructive of jobs and economic growth than this one.”
The debate on the necessity of this bill as well as its economic implications is far from complete.
Thank you for your consideration of my views.
Sincerely,
Shirley Vandever
Yes, but at least the Patriot Act was under a real sense of panic. You know what I think about that act. I tend to direct my outrage at wrongful acts to the people doing them. When Republicans had power that was the GOP, but when Democrats are doing wrong, why would I criticize the Republicans. Democrats are in power. They promised that they would give us a 5 days to review any legislation. They aren’t even trying now.
I seem to remember several members of this blog including myself criticizing the GOP when it was in power. We all still agree with those criticisms. I hope my point was clear. It was not contradicting your valid point. It was just bringing the subject back to the fact that the Democrats were the ones who promised to stop it and they are doing it worse than ever.
At least the Patriot Act was under a real emergency. This is not. The Democrats controlled the Congress with TARP, but at least that was a legitimate emergency as well and we had more time to read it. We took almost two weeks to review it while under the economic gun. There is no excuse for shoving this bill through under these circumstances.
We should hope that Representative Castle has the courage to stand up for the elitists who really would feel no pain if energy prices are greatly escalated thanks to the folly of cap and trade.
Please contact his office and urge him to do the right thing.
His complicity in the economic crucifixion of most of America should be taken as utter arrogance and an indication that he welcomes a primary challenge.
Let’s hope he does the right thing.
“The Patriot Act, and the TARP were both passed unread under Pres Bush and for the Patriot Act the R’s had the house and senate.”
Sorry, but that’s BS. When the Patriot Act passed the Senate, the Senate was LEAD BY DEMOCRATS WITH TOM DASCHLE AT THE HELM 98-1 with only Senator Russ Feingold voting NO.
300 more pages this morning (waxmen amdmt) no copies available on the floor. but they will still call for a vote
I’m off to the barn to look for tar and feathers
