Welcome Back 2010!
Jan 13th, 2010 by Timothy Pancoast
The State Legislature is back in session. The day began on a somber note with the funeral of Jean Biden, but our elected officials still had work to do and returned to Legislative Hall to begin the second half of the 145th Session. It will likely be dominated by budget issues, but will also see a number of other hot button issues. It may seem like business as usual, however inside and out Legislative Hall there were signs that this session will be different from previous ones. The Legislators and State employees weren’t the only ones there. Dozens of concerned Delawareans showed up to welcome them back to work.
Groups including the 9-12 Delaware Patriots, the Delaware Tea Party, Campaign for Liberty, the Constitution Party, the First State Patriots, and some candidates were represented. There were also several Delawareans that came on their own because of their heightened concerned about the direction of our State and Nation. This was more that a rally. It was a welcome back from the voters as well as a reminder that we will be paying attention and we will be involved. Rather than just standing around outside Delawareans went into Legislative Hall and met with their Representatives and Senators. We delivered packages with some of our concerns and areas of interest for the upcoming year. Many of us also took the time to observe the proceedings from the balcony and some even used the opportunity to speak directly to the elected officials and get to know them better.
The Tea Parties that began last year on Tax Day have grown into a movement of citizens that are growing more aware and informed by the day. These Delawareans are also prepared to participate in their government like never before. This renewed citizen involvement will be a blessing to those in government, if they are wise enough to accept it. Regardless, this session will stand out from the ones before it because the people aren’t going to simply wait for the hot button issues to come up, or for things to get bad before they get involved. We are here from day one and we will see it through to midnight on June 30th.

Oh it’s coming…I almost feel sorry for the liberals especially in Delaware because despite us talking about it in the open they have NO idea what’s going to happen this year. Despite us telling them we’re on to them they deny that we can win. Despite that we CLEARLY have the will of the people behind, beside and in front of us they have NO clue that they’re the minority now.
Consider yourselves put on notice, the Constitution is back with a vengeance.
It is absolutly true that what we are doing is no secret. I feel very comfortable in saying I want smaller more Constitutional government. That is different from people with other agendas that have to hide what they are really trying to achieve.
If you have to hide what you’re really trying to achieve, your goals are nefarious. The people I know are not hiding anything from anyone. There’s no reason to do so. They’re people who are just tired of being beaten up and taken advantage of. They’re sick of big government abusing its power and being taxed to death. They’re not hiding it and there are more and more places for them to express their opinions and to focus their energy. I thank God for that alone.
I feel equally sorry for the Republicans that win their votes by appealing to members of conservative culture. In November, it won’t be enough for a candidate to rely on his membership in community organizations, and being likable. In addition to voting out those that are violating the Constitution and stealing our liberties, those who remain silent must be held accountable, for they are equally at fault. Candidates will not be able to say, “I have not abused the power of my position. It’s the other party’s fault!” No. We must ask our representatives, “What are you doing to fight injustice? What are you doing to halt the march of socialism? How far will you go to protect my freedom?” And, sadly, if otherwise good men are sitting idly by, collecting a government salary year after year while domestic enemies trample on their constituents, it is our duty to elect stronger leaders in their place.
Chris, if you read my Candidate Gut Check you will see that I have similar feelings. Being a good person is not enough. Our elected leaders need to be decent people that are willing to stand up and advocate for what is right and Constitutional.
