Wagner Out in 31st District Rep. Race
Oct 15th, 2009 by Tennessee Walker
My friends from up north in Dover tell me that former State Representative Nancy Wagner will not be running for the seat she held from 1992 thru 2008. The rumor mill also has Former Levy Court Commissioner Ron Smith throwing his hat in the ring for this seat although any formal announcement will be next month. There are others interested. These include former City of Dover Mayors Jim Hutchison and Steve Speed. Other names being floated on the Republican side are current Dover Councilman and Councilwoman, Tom Leary and Beth Williams.
Former State Senator John Still who represented the same area for 20 years from 1988 to 2008 is reportedly not interested.

BTW Happy Birthday, Nancy Wagner. That is big news.
[...] Delaware Politics is reporting that former State Representative Nancy Wagner (R) will not be seeking a rematch with Rep. Daryll Scott in the 31st RD in 2010. Scott defeated the longtime incumbent Wagner 53% to 47% in 2008. According to our friends at Delaware Politics, former Levy Court Commissioner Ron Smith will challenge Scott, and former Dover Mayors Jim Hutchison and Steve Speed, as well as current Dover Councilman and Councilwoman, Tom Leary and Beth Williams, are interested in the race. Who said she was never in? Didn’t the voters throw her out last November?
In a district that voted for Obama over McCain by a 5648 to 2972 margin, Wagner lost by 400+ votes. Wagner was the choice of House Republican leaders to run for this office and in a year that appears to be much more favorable to Republicans than 2008 she would have been a very tough opponent. Say what you want about her being thrown out, having to make up 1,700 votes is tough for anyone.
