Urquhart Signs the Defund it Pledge

Jul 22nd, 2010 by David Anderson

The movement continues to gain steam. I am sure more candidates of various parties will sign on to the pledge to defund and ultimately repeal the Health Care Deform Act.  As I said yesterday, I am sure more will sign on this pledge.  We need leaders who will fight for our heritage of free markets and a free people by every means necessary.  For more information on the pledge and movement, go to the website.

Urquhart Pledges to De-Fund ObamaCare

Charlottesville, VA – Today DeFundIt.org is proud to announce Glen Urquhart, Republican candidate for Delaware’s at large congressional district, has signed our pledge to de-fund ObamaCare. Over 145 candidates have signed the pledge, including Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle and thirteen NRCC “Young Guns”. Chairman Alex Cortes, speaking on Glen Urquhart’s pledge said:

“By signing our pledge, Urquhart has taken a leadership position in calling for the de-funding of ObamaCare as the first necessary step to fully repealing and replacing this unconstitutional, job-killing, fiscal train wreck. Americans and Delawareans would have a friend in Congress with a principled public servant like Glen.”

If Urquhart is such an upstanding guy, why is he doing a blatant push-poll against Michelle Rollins distorting the facts about Rollins? I just got the phone call.

  2. on 22 Jul 2010 at 18:582Pat Fish

First Cookie…just throwing it out there, but maybe you’d like to provide more details?

Second, cookie…I don’t want to destroy your rose-colored glasses but go with me here, Glen Urquhart is …gasp…a politician.

I doubt even his most fervant devotees would consider him beyond sanctioning a push poll in his favor. Hell, there aren’t any politicos I’d think beyond this sort of thing.

Things might be different in the rosy world of cookieland.

If you are an upstanding guy, then you don’t have to use smear tactics and name calling like calling her the “heiress of Jamaica.”

  4. on 22 Jul 2010 at 19:244cookie

What if Michelle Rollins, Rose Izzo, or John Carney did a push poll and the pollee on the other end said “I support Glen Urquhart” and the pollster said “Well did you know that Glen Urquhart said that anyone who believes in separation of church and state is a Nazi?” You guys would be all over that one. Pot meet Kettle.

  5. on 22 Jul 2010 at 19:285Dave Burris

I got the push poll, too, and I wrote down the whole thing. I will post on it later. Pure bush league garbage, especially the heiress Rollins part. You can message-test without that crap. Can’t believe DA had anything to do with that.

  6. on 22 Jul 2010 at 19:346cookie

    Pat,
Dave will provide the exact details for you. Happy now?

  7. on 22 Jul 2010 at 20:027Dave Burris

    Here you go.

  8. on 22 Jul 2010 at 20:188Pat Fish

Nothing in that poll makes me against Glen.

He’s trying to win a political office!

You gentle folks need to go where the head hairs never get mussed, where suntans never get splotchy, where reaching across the aisle is the preferred genteel exercise of the, er…genteel.

Michelle Rollins can do a push poll of her own if she wants.

I got the call from Urquhart and I heard no such comment as the one Cookie is suggesting. I smell BS here.

  11. on 22 Jul 2010 at 21:3711YHGTBSM

Let’s be honest, Rollins has some noteworthy personal accomplishments but without the Rollins name (John) she would be Michele Smith(?) and no one would care.

What has made her a factor in the GOP inside circles (giving away money) makes her totally out of touch with the rest of the state. You know, the limo to the airport, the corporate Jet to Jamaica and then the resort where she spends 6 months of the year.

If she is the nominee the only previously held GOP seat to go Democrat this year will be the Mike Castle seat. By the way, how many women from her program Winning Women have been elected to anything. Answer is NONE.

  12. on 22 Jul 2010 at 21:4012cookie

That’s because you answered that you supported Urquhart. Go to Dave Burris blog. That is exactly what was said.

I apologize if I have missed anyone. I hope this clears up any misconceptions about the Winning Women program and the many fine folks who have taken part.

  14. on 23 Jul 2010 at 00:1614David Anderson

I am with Pat. There is nothing that is particularily interesting about it. I think the term heiress is irrelevant. It is silly.

I went to Dave’s site to see what the fuss was about. I can not confirm or deny any polling. Note that I am only responding to public information. It is a typical Republican Voter ID/message testing poll; the same style done across the country.

Apart from the one word heiress, the rest of the poll seems very relevant. If you are pro-life, the fact that she gave to a pro-abortion rights organization dedicated to electing people who would protect abortion rights is a very important fact.

The fact that she gave to Joe Biden is just that a fact. I don’t think it matters but most Republicans do. That means she must deal with it. Fact is she got more money after WT took taxpayer money.

Fact, she has not signed tax payer protection pledges.

Fact, he is a self made small business man. He did serve in the Reagan Adminstration. He is endorsed by the Family Research Council Action PAC so some would view that as a champion of families. He is pro-life.

Is there any thing in dispute?

I have the perfect foil. She can start by signing the anti-tax pledges and converting on abortion and favoring DOMA. Then whomever is doing this will have nothing to talk about. If she thinks her positions are winning ones, than who cares?

The definition of a push poll is one that asks at the beginning who people are voting for and then gives false information about that candidate. Push polls ask people who they are voting for again at the end of the survey. Those pushed numbers are released to the press.

The Urquhart campaign is not doing that.

  15. on 23 Jul 2010 at 06:0815anontoo

“The definition of a push poll is one that asks at the beginning who people are voting for and then gives false information about that candidate.”

She did not give “thousands” to Joe Biden. She gave one time to the Wish List. She did not “personally profit” from Wilmington Trust; she was paid for her work. Urquhart is not a self-made Delaware businessman, he is a self-made Virginia businessman who lives in Delaware. Taxpayer pledges are campaign gimmicks with a violation rate over 50%. Bill Oberle signed the Taxpayer Pledge for his campaigns, too.

If it uses the word “Heiress” in a derogatory manner, it’s a push poll. A push poll is designed to sound like a poll, but to sway the opinion of the poll-taker by using false or misleading information.

    YHG,
Regarding my comment about Winning Women, had I realized that it was MP I was responding to, I would not have wasted my valuable time.

  17. on 25 Jul 2010 at 08:5817Rick

Yeah, you old Republican know-it-alls have a great track record in statewide elections over the past few cycles with your ‘moderate’ candidates, right? Wake-up, or get the hell out of the way.
