Urquhart has Successful Fundraising Quarter
Jul 15th, 2010 by David Anderson
total contributions for this period were $120,525.47
total operating expenditures were $197,546.33
cash on hand at the close of the reporting period was $434,778.37
This is not bad for being the unendorsed candidate. I can hardly wait to see how this blockbuster job (a recent record for an unedorsed candidate in Delaware) stacks up.

The reporting period was April/May/June, so he was only the “unendorsed candidate” for a portion of that time.
Rollins raised over $500,000, with less than $5,000 coming out of her own pocket and she entered the race in April.
And now that I look at the preliminary numbers from the News Journal, Rollins raised $585,000, she entered the race April 7th, and she out raised John Carney and Glen Urquhart, both of whom were in the race and fundraising for months before her.
And she only put $4,800 of her own money into her campaign fund.
Carney raised $400,000, so he also out raised Urquhart by a significant amount.
Meanwhile Urquhart’s cash on hand represents what’s left of the $565,000 of his own money he dumped down the drain.
If I were Glen Urquhart, I wouldn’t be celebrating those numbers.
Considering that he did not put a priority on fundraising until June, it is something celebrate. His total is a high for a non-endorsed candidate and the competitive nature of the race will bring more money in.
The Devil is in the details…
Urquhart’s Q2 numbers are not yet live either on FEC or on Open Secrets. Once we see them, then we’ll know if he’s actually raising money as David says, or still living of his own money as Alice says.
Glen raised the cash which is admirable and speaks well of his effort. I would guess the two are pretty equal in the polls but Glen has an important advantage in the type of electorate he faces in the September primary.
Establishment will get you money but in 2010 not a lot of broad based support.
For those who bemoan Glen do a lot of self funding let’s be honest, the GOP looks at self funding as the premier quality you have to have to run.

How can you be a beltway insider, Reagan appointee to a Fed committee, serving 3 administrations for over a decade and NOT be establishment, PLUS he’s claiming to be the only candidate who can hit the ground running because of his experience in DC. Cut us a break, Urquhart can’t have it both ways.
And let’s go a step further. Urquhart has the former State Party Vice Chairman and current County Council president as his campaign chairman. Urquhart went to Washington, DC to seek the support of the National Republican Party and Urquhart thought he had the credibility to do that because of the fundraising he did for establishment candidates, like Michael Steele, just a few short years ago when he lived in McLean Virginia.
