UPDATE: Polly Ever Wanna Face The Voters?
Jul 20th, 2009 by MariaEvans

Are her handlers worried she'll say she can see Maryland from her house?
It appears that the plot may be thickening when it comes to the alleged candidacy of Polly Adams Mervine Polly Mervine Adams.
Meanwhile, the rumors are still a-swirling that Ms. Adams’ campaign isn’t responding to outreach attempts from a certain talk radio station that has a heck of a lot of listeners in the 19th.
And to top all of that off with a tiara, I have learned that as of right now, there is only one other live debate/forum between tonight and the special election in the works, and Ms. Adams so far can’t commit.
I spoke with Barbara Mullin from the Sussex County League of Women Voters, and she indicated to me that invitations for their forum, scheduled for July 30th, went out last week, and 3 of the candidates have confirmed they would go. Only one candidate, Polly Mervine Adams, couldn’t commit. Apparently there may be an event at the State Fair for Governor’s Day honoring her father (a few minutes ago the event was not listed on the State Fair website or on the Governor’s schedule, but his schedule doesn’t go that far into the future). As of yesterday, Ms. Adams was planning on not attending the question and answer part of the forum, and just showing up at the end to make a closing statement.
Holy Pattern of Avoiding Live Questioning, Batman!

3 weeks, a governor, a legislature, a legacy, and plenty of campaign cash = who needs to worry about the issue geek peasants anyway
She can get away with being visible and saying that she cares about the same things we do unless someone stands up and says “wait, what are you going to do if you get the job”. The last time I checked the seat belonged to the people. The people shouldn’t hire someone without a sound plan of action.
“the campaign schedule is so hectic, sorry I can’t stay for question, have to go to anotgher memorialservice for Dad. Remember himwhen you vote.”
heh, love the entitlements tag.
Any candidate, Dem, Repub, Libertarian, or Independent, who refuses to debate their opponents, does not deserve one vote! So far, only the Dem candidate is refusing to debate. People in the 19th need to realize that and vote for a qualified candidate who stands up for his views on the issues.
what name is she using on the ballot?
Polly Adams Mervine AKA heir apparent.
Remember folks when it is date night with Ken, BARBIE DON’T DEBATE.
Perry.
“Any candidate, Dem, Repub, Libertarian, or Independent, who refuses to debate their opponents, does not deserve one vote!”
Remember last year, I debated with Markell and Carney but we had one no show and the GOP defended his no show record.
Mike Protack
See how well that worked for an otherwise distinguished candidate. He took bad advice and now Adams-Mervine seems to be listening to the same type of advise. The problem is that she has no record in public service to which she can point. At least Judge Lee had known positions from two previous campaigns and his previous work as a county republican chairman.
Mike, again, that was during the PRIMARY, that candidate debated his opponent in the GENERAL ELECTION, Jack Markell, several times.
THIS race for the 19th isn’t a primary, it’s the big show.
And you, if I recall, threatened to show up during the PRIMARY race at a veterans forum that candidate was holding, but in the end you never showed. So you had your chance and you missed it.
I would also like to point out that the candidate you’re referring to did frequent live radio appearances up and down the state where he answered callers questions, Ms. Adams to date, hasn’t done that, either.
Please stop dwelling over your crushing primary loss to a candidate that had to be DRAFTED into running after you had already been campaigning for what…a year? You tried your hardest, but it just wasn’t good enough. Same luck next time.
I have word that the County Council Chambers will have their live webcam and audio feed working during the debate. It automatically powers up with the microphones.
So anyone who would like to witness the debate from afar or cannot make it there can watch it online for free from the County website.
Thanks for the heads up Brian. It should be worth a look.
WGMD 92.7 fm is broadcasting tonight’s forum at Crossroads live. You can also get it on their site, WGMD.com.
The Democratic candidate’s failure to engage the other candidates in the Crossroads Community Church Candidates Forum has largely sealed her fate. According to a WGMD report, her other prescheduled event was not listed on Twitter, Facebook or her website. The voters of the 19th Senatorial District are at a political crossroads of sorts as the choice is between an apparent legacy candidate
(The Declaration of Independence and US Constitution effectually nullified the concept of hereditary nobility); a multi-term Republican incumbent insider running half way through his term in an effort to shift to the State Senate (whose election would, de facto, render Delaware a one party state by giving the Democrats a supermajority in the State House); a Libertarian and an Independent who has prepared to serve the People through ten years of active civic involvement and legislative research.
The voters of the 19th District have the power to make history by electing an Independent thinking candidate solely responsible to them instead of party apparatus and special interests.
Joe Booth for 37th District State Representative …
Matthew Opaliski for 19th District State Senator.

I caught a peice of the debate on the radio. It seemed to go well. I did notice that as advertized Mrs. Mervine was absent, but those that appeared handled themselves well.
Nice to see you, Wolfgang.
Wolfgang: “The Democratic candidate’s failure to engage the other candidates in the Crossroads Community Church Candidates Forum has largely sealed her fate.”
Unfortunately, Wolfgang, I don’t think you are correct. Your candidate, Matt and Joe will divide the anti-Mervine vote, and she will win. That is my prediction.
I hear her “event” was also sparsely attended. Almost like she created it as a scapegoat.
Sometimes a famous name is not the key to success. Note the failures of Kathleen KENNEDY Townsend in Maryland. Whether she could be described as an airhead or an empty skirt is up to debate (something certain candidates fear when the forum is not rigged in their favor).
She needs to be tied to Markell and Obama. That is her party.
[...] Polly Wanna Stand-In? I am sensing a pattern here. Can Polly campaign for herself? Maria has more: Polly Ever Wanna Face the Voters? Brian Shields also asks “Where’s [...]
It seems to me that you are all hating her because of reasons oh there is no reasons you are just hating period what do you think Joe Booth is better “”OMG”" I DON”T THINK SO what has he done “”NOTHING”" for ANYONE so support the one who will VOTE Polly Adams Mervine for your 19th District State Senator
What has Booth done? He voted against the Democrat’s tax hikes. He’s taken the side of low taxes and the people on the JFC many times. And when mothers of 4th graders in the Cape Henlopen School District called their Representatives because the District was going to balance the budget by increasing 4th grade class sizes, the ONLY representative who bothered to show up at the school board meeting was Joe Booth. What has Polly done?
Would she have voted for SB 121? What about the tax hikes? Will she vote for or against Del Pointe-her opening statement at a forum she bailed on left that question wide open…Can you name 5 specific places Polly would cut government spending?
Is she gonna have her husband answer these questions, too, or can she handle them on her own?
“Hate”? Good try. It’s more like a well earned outing.
And how long has Joe Booth been in politics again he has done nothing for has many years that he has been there and yes he voted against state tax hike but wasn’t he part of the problem that has gotten us to where we are now maybe he should have done something years ago not just now so again he has done “”NOTHING”"
Polly Supporter I gave you examples, you reject them. And if you’re going to talk about being “part of the problem” talk about Thurman Adams, a man who spent 35 years in the legislature holding up bills in his desk drawer and hanging out with lobbyists.
