The Man They Called Senator
Jun 24th, 2009 by David Anderson
Senate President Pro Tem Thurman Adams was a successful business man and politicial leader. He was such an icon that local comercials used him. Senator Venables gave a moving tribute to his best friend in the General Assembly, but one thing that sticks with me is what I have observed. Friend, foe or observer, when Senator Adams said where he stood, you could bank on it.
I didn’t always agree with him, but I always respected him. He was a friend of the family who practiced the family values that he advocated. He suffered personal loss in his family when his son died. Instead of becoming self centered, he served his community as well as anyone. He left a family legacy which continues with his grandson who works for the state senate.
I think one of the highest aspirations of a man is to die with his boots on. It is to go out making a difference. The man they called Senator for 37 years did that up to his last.
May God bless and comfort the Adams family. Thank you for sharing him for nearly 40 years.
