DOC Sgt. Floyd’s Funeral Lines RT 1

Hundreds of people gathered at various points along DE RT 1 from Milford to Smyrna in honor of slain Delaware Corrections Officer, Sgt. Steven Floyd, earlier this afternoon. Various local fire companies displayed large American Flags, suspended from ladder trucks stationed on overpasses as their members stood at attention State agencies and local police departments, including the Department of Corrections, State Police, DELDOT as well as the Delaware National Guard actively participated. Police delegations from surrounding states were also present as we're some Delaware citizens groups. Sgt. Floyd ( a sixteen-year veteran of the DOC) was killed during the February 2 Building C hostage incident in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna. Throughout last week, flags in Delaware were lowered to half staff in his honor. He was buried with full honors in Barrett's Chapel Cemetery. Read more

Former DE DAG Comments on Delaware’s Prisons

By: Ken Abraham, former DE Deputy Attorney General The death of Officer Floyd is a tragedy, whether or not he was one of the abusive guards who is a disgrace to the hundreds who go in there and try to do their jobs properly ( and I hear that he was ).  However, it does not surprise me. Having SEEN what goes on in our prisons, as I posted recently on our website, two words can account for most of the prison problems: NO ACCOUNTABILITY. Unless and until guards and others, like medical staffers,  who commit crimes from property theft, serious neglect of medical problems, to filing false reports, to outright uncalled for brutal beatings of inmates, are PROSECUTED, we will see the same problems.
