Some Democrats Cheer Storm; RNC Revamped
Sep 1st, 2008 by David Anderson
Comments from leading Democrats like Gustav is a sign from God that He is on the Democrats side and it is proof from there is a God remind us why the Democrats were so anxious to turn the page on the old guard. Senator Obama is postponing the Democrat’s counter convention. He is showing the dignity we expect from a responsible leader. Some of his colleagues have not figured out this new politics yet. It appears that people like former DNC Chairman Fowler, Michael Moore, and some of the left wing blogs are so blinded by hate that compassion is a second thought.
It is obvious that the Republican National Convention had to be revised. The Governors and other officials of the Gulf Coast had more pressing matters. I was concerned that talk of postponing the convention seemed like a PR stunt. It is a thousand miles away and it is frankly not practical. Cooler heads prevailed, and I like the approach taken. They are taking tonight off and helping fundraise and organize help for their fellow Americans. The party chartered a plane earlier to take back members of the Gulf region to evacuate their families and allowed those who wished bring their families back to do so. The legal business of the Convention is being conducted (McCain and Palin have to be on the ballot after all). McCain and Palin are staying up to date while not getting in the way. President Bush is on top of the situation unlike the way it seemed 3 years ago. (A side benefit is that Bush and Cheney won’t be speaking tonight; maybe Fowler ought to rethink his stand –sarcasm intended.) Senator McCain is operating not only with dignity, but compassion. He is compelled to help our fellow Americans in harms way. That is a more important message than any speech which could have been given.
I think 99.5% of us will agree that we need to be ready to reach out in unity to our fellow Americans. We truly are one nation and times like this prove it. To borrow a quote, “we are not red Americans or blue Americans, but Red, White, and Blue Americans”. Even more importantly, we are just humans grappling to help each other make it through this world of ours. When we join together, we remind ourselves of the best within humanity. That is what makes life worth living.
Join me in praying for our fellow citizens. Let’s forget about the few who don’t get it, and remember that D’s, R’s, I’s, L’s, and everyone else all love the same, hurt the same, and rise together.
