Sickening: A Victim Punished Worse Than The Perp

May 15th, 2009 by RSmitty

I personally know of a case in Delaware where the true Perp walked after commiting what literally was vehicular homicide with a stolen vehicle, but the prosecutor (since shamefully dismissed for DUI) at the time was going for major symbolism and let that perp go. I am not kidding. That, given my personal knowledge of it, was what I thought was the absolute worst sham in our judicial system in a yield for glory points.

Even though this next one didn’t happen in DE, it’s still part of our country’s judicial system and it surpasses the one I just mentioned. This is freaking awful. I am all for rehabilitation and truly giving second chances (when we’re not talking life terms), but this is utterly shameful. It appears that all the players involved on the Perp’s end have found the inability to speak as well. With that, I will leave to the grand assumption that, since the perp was tooling around in his Hummer (a college kid), I can only imagine that there was some mommy and daddy purchasing of a plea agreement (or extortion). Hey, that’s what you get when you won’t speak and a triple shooter gets a gift from the judicial system.
Go Get Outraged Now.

I don’t really have words for this. I wish that we would have more empathy for the victims than the criminals.

There is so much about this that gives me so much outrage and it is boiling. One of the points that I think would get lost in this story is where they point out that the victim nor his family were told (thus, giving them no opportunity to attend) about the plea hearing. There is so much wrong with this. I don’t understand why this plea can’t be tossed out on impropriety. If for nothing else, wasn’t the victim denied his rights of the judicial process by not being notified of that hearing? I don’t know the answer, so anyone with knowledge, come forth.

RSmitty , I too am not sure if the judge could have over ridden this deal , and doesn’t the D.A. know what is being done by his assistant? Why didn’t he step in doesn’t he have to approve plea deals? It seems to me that the corruption in this case may go higher. It would be nice to know who the perp’s parents are or maybe some other family member. Also I wonder where the A.D.A will be working now , hum!
