Ruth Briggs King Wins
Sep 12th, 2009 by David Anderson
First Word from Republican Insiders is that Ruth Briggs King wins. Numbers to follow. UPDATE Briggs King 2245, Robinson 1958 verification to follow. Opps Rep. Elect Ruth King’s absentee was left out. It is even a little better. See breakdown on the next post.

I got a call. Ruth Briggs King won 2245-1958 (votes).
Congratulations to Representative Ruth Briggs King!
I sense a real turn in the political climate. The liberal print media in Delaware has tried to ignore the wishes of the people. However, if you peruse the comments on the media’s websites, they are overwhelmingly conservative.
This win gives conservatives a foothold in taking our state back to the founders beliefs, and to the prosperity we used to enjoy.
No longer can they ignore us.
I worked the phone banks Weds for four hours for Ms. Briggs. Sat and enjoyed a nice conversation with her for a half an hour as well.
I think I called a couple hundred people. I talked them all into seeing things my way.
I knew she’d win. She’s a great lady AND…we can thank the current Dem party for a Republican wave is about to sweep this country….wait till the Jersey and Va elections.
Hooray.
I have to agree with you. There is definitely a wave effect. This would have been a closer race if only on run on local issues. I think Mrs. King would have won with about the same initial percentage that Booth did the first time, but it would be too close to be sure.
Since the 2008 election, the Republicans have won 3 of the 4 Special Elections. We are on a roll and 2010 will be a Republican Year. We have to thank Obama for this wave. He is proving to be the emptiest suit out there.
It would be interesting to see how much ‘outside help’ the Democrats called in. Some of their ‘volunteers’ seem to have been paid.
Republicans did come from Kent and New Castle County but were all volunteers motivated by principle rather than pay.
I congratulate Ruth Briggs King on her impressive victory.
She is now my representative in the House, so I will be intensely interested in her positions on the issues, and will be communicating my positions to her, just as I did with Joe Booth. If she is as responsive as Joe Booth always was, I will be impressed with that.
Art Downs is uninformed on this: “It would be interesting to see how much ‘outside help’ the Democrats called in. Some of their ‘volunteers’ seem to have been paid.”
The Robinson campaign denies any involvement with these people, stating that any involvement was self-directed. That charge was a last minute bomb that did not allow time for a response. In my view, it did not make a significant difference anyway, as the King victory was substantial (55% to 45%). I think that the supermajority threat may have been a key motivator for Repubs and Independents, perhaps also some Dems who crossed over.
As far as outside help, Art, the Repubs had some, like Dano Pico from PA as one example. I don’t know if any were paid.
I think the huge TV blitz had an impact as well.
Perry the charge wasn’t a “last minute bomb” it was in the public arena via GMD for at least 2 weeks. The flyer had been discussed, the hit pieces were discussed…heck a Robinson and a King supporter debated it on the air last Monday. The “last minute bomb” was that the office was 0.4 miles from Robinson’s campaign HQ and about a tenth of a mile away (a few hundred feet) from his campaign manager’s office. And apparently it had a sign in the window. People in the 37th district know the lay out of Georgetown. D’oh.
With friends like ACORN, who needs enemies?
I agree that the super majority issue was overriding. All the GOP needed was a solid candidate and they had one. The Democrats scared people with this past budget. There is some buyer’s remorse.
OK, Maria, I didn’t know about it until I read your post, so to others it was not a last minute bomb.
I do still stand by my statement that your facts do not demonstrate a connection between the Robinson campaign and ACORN, nor the out of state folks. The campaign said there was no connection. Until there is evidence otherwise, I believe them, and so should you.
Incidentally, Dana Pico has corrected the authorship on his blog, not being he, but Art Downs. He had posted an email message from Art, but forgot to change the author name. Therefore, I have no evidence of out-of-state help for King, although I do believe she had RNC money. Correct?
I do still stand by my statement that your facts do not demonstrate a connection between the Robinson campaign and ACORN,
Where do I mention “ACORN” in my post? Exactly NO WHERE.
And Perry let’s just get this straight, my post, shows distances from offices. If you have an issue with those “facts” I suggest you contact Google.
As for the interviews, I personally spoke with the mother, the daughter, and the person who figured out where the girl was.
Meanwhile, you can’t even pull up a campaign finance report to see where RBK money came from….instead you speculate.
Maria, I am not disputing your facts, but I am disputing your assumptions. You are assuming a connection between the Robinson campaign and the incident with the young woman. Robinson denies the connection, you have not proven it; distances between offices is no proof! At this point I choose to believe the Robinson campaign and discard your assumption.
Regarding ACORN, someone on here was trying to make a connection between the Robinson campaign and ACORN. Again the campaign denied the connection.
Regarding the RNC involvement, I read that allegation and cannot find or recall the source. So consider it no more than an allegation/speculation at this point. I suspect it is correct!
“…someone on here was trying to make a connection between the Robinson campaign and ACORN. Again the campaign denied the connection.
ACORN was here, and was campaigning for Robinson…that, in itself, is a ‘connection,’ period- whether it was initiated by Robinson’s people, or not.
Socialist-Democrats, have you no shame?
Perry, the Sussex County Department of Elections publishes campaign finance reports on it’s website. They’re even pretty quick about it. You don’t have to speculate.

Enjoy the site, P, I’ve spent many hours checking out what/whose money goes where…
OK, Maria, no RNC.
Thanks for the citation. Interesting!
P-there should be one more report coming, for donations after 8/29.
