Rollins Exploring a Run
Mar 12th, 2010 by David Anderson
UPDATE: Kevin Wade responds: I welcome Ms. Rollins to the race, she is well respected for her many good works, dignity and grace. As for me, my focus is with we the people. I am in this race because America losing American is not an option.
Multi-millionaire Greenville resident Michelle Rollins is exploring a run for Delaware’s lone congressional seat. She is an attorney and widow of businessman John Rollins. No one can say that she has not earned the right to be considered by the party. She has been active for many years in the party and has helped a variety of candidates. Her thought of entering the race has already awakened a split within the wings of the party. “I’m the conservative candidate,” Urquhart said. “Michele represents liberal values. I welcome her into the race. I stand for the conservative traditional values that are sweeping this country like a tidal wave.” It should be an interesting convention.

In a small state like Delaware, she may be able to buy the seat. Don’t laugh..I am serious (see Jay Rockefeller). And I hope she does just that.
I think Michelle is from Greenville and not Greenwood.
I’m reserving judgement until I’ve had the opporutnity to meet with and speak to Michelle but I’ll tell you this much…If she’s running on “knowing how bureacracy works” and the wad of cash she can throw at the race…she risks losing that money and wasting her time.
Tom Ross and the Republican party “elite” haven’t woken up yet, but the people doing the voting have. They want a MESSAGE and they want one that resonates with “grassroots” groups and they want candidates who are real. They’re sick of incumbents (Castle) and the filthy rich. They want honesty, responsibility and someone who will fight for some very basic principles. This is the year of the challenger and it’s the year of the (thanks Christine O’Donnell) “citizen politician”.
I look forward to meeting Michelle and speaking with her about all of these issues.
Thank you Tennessee, that was a spell check issue. I was too much in a hurry this morning to notice that it changed Greenville to Greenwood. I would be happier if she were from Greenwood.
Greenville…Greenwood…makes no difference to me if she has the right message.
Most of the state agrees.
The track record on self financed candidates is not very good. Good luck to her but it will require things fairs, festivals and the State Fair for over a week.
The convention could be fun.

Being a blue-blood, she should do well in New Castle.
Of course, if she wins, she’ll probably turn-out to be just a new Castle.
I wonder if she’ll reach out to the patirot movement…
tick…tock….tick…tock
“I wonder if she’ll reach out to the patirot movement…
tick…tock….tick…tock”
The ticking clock is a little premature, she’s not even in the race yet.
Rick, she’s no “blue blood”. Her father and John Rollins were both self made men with no college degrees.
I agree with Rick that at best she would be another Castle. I would be more comfortable with her late husband running. I will say that the Rollins are also popular in Kent County. They have been patrons of Charity and the arts as well as the state and local GOP. They have provided a great number of jobs and have positively impacted tourism and the economy through Dover Downes. Libs may talk about Jamacia, but we all know that most of the jobs in trucking, NASCAR, hotels, and harness racing have been right here. Diversification makes good business sense. Liberals don’t understand that.
David, you just did a good job explaining why she would NOT be “another Castle”.
Let’s not devolve this into a rich vs. poor, up-state vs. down-state, elite vs. “the people” primary race, its sounds too much like what the Democrats do (yet are still lead by “new blood” rich e.g. Pelosi). It’s all about the message and the leadership ability to pool together a winning coalition of voters. Of course having money helps, but if you can’t walk the talk with the voters, from behind the podium or in face to face situations, then all the Benjamins in the world won’t beat ‘Uncle Rico’ with his two-decade headstart on us.
Rick, there are plenty of old money, blue blood types in both Kent and Sussex as well. Don’t let the different accent fool you, because there’s gold in them thar fields.
“Blue blood” implies an ancestry of wealth and privilege, that does not describe the Rollins family or the Metrinkos.
David, of course liberals understand the concept of diversification in business. Look at Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and all the other liberal business leaders. That was a cheap shot.
Let’s hope Rollins has something different to offer than what the GOP did leading up to the financial collapse. She’s an attorney a sophisticated person. That means she probably has the intellect to address the complexity of issues, not just slogans. She should stay far far away from the Tea Party. Delaware is Democrat territory. She has to win Democrats. Can’t win Democrats by spitting in their face accusing health care reform advocates of being Communists. If she is suspected of agreeing with extremist elements of the right wing like Glen Beck Patriot Founders Lovers Group, she has no chance.
With a couple of quirky exceptions like global warming, it would be hard to classify Gates as a liberal. He is more libertarian. Buffett is a Democrat activist, but even he seems to be losing faith in the ruling regime.
The ruling regime is the bane of common sense.
Blue-blood does imply old wealth; so I’ll switch to nouveau riche.
If she has guts, conviction, ideas, ways to make people LISTEN to her ideas, a heart for the poor, and goes to Congress to shake up the bloated, self-important, lust for power do-nothings that have accomplished NOTHING to improve the economy, and the well-being of the PEOPLE, then I’d vote for Michelle Rollins. If it’s going to be a stage show with no nuts and bolts and the the Republicans keep the seat warm, please count me out. It’s all about knowing the CONSTITUENTS whom you SERVE. Representative means just that – REPRESENT US.
New Castle County people are residents, too.
I agree with Annie, may the best candidate win.
what we don’t need is a rich dilettante who thinks it would be fun to dabble in politics. it’s an extremely serious time and requires someone with the right philosophy and specific idea of how to turn the country around fiscally. i haven’t heard michelle, but i’m not inspired by the pedigree.
So let’s get this straight, sue doesn’t know Michele, hasn’t heard Michele speak, but Michele is not acceptable because she’s rich.
Michele Rollins isn’t “pedigreed,” she is from a hard working, immigrant family that was proud she went to college and law school. She was a SEC lawyer and successful before she even met John Rollins. She’s built two hotels after her husband died, resulting in two successful businesses. Her success comes from hard work. Rollins is also an extremely serious woman, but then you wouldn’t know that, sue, because you don’t know a damn thing about her, you just dabble in assumptions.
And sue, that class envy isn’t conservative, and using class warfare is really more of a liberal trait than anything you would hear from a Republican, it would make Reagan spin in his grave
You know, sue, what we REALLY don’t need is an ignorant, envious gadfly like you spreading your hatred and jealousy about a good, viable, hard working, intelligent Republican candidate.
not so quiet alice, i’m just saying that giving lots of money to the republican party doesn’t necessarily inspire me. i’m not against people having money – at all, the freedom to succeed is what america’s about. but i do need to see adherence to conservative values. if people are turning away from the democratic party they’re not going to be inspired by someone from delaware’s chateauocracy (like mike castle who betrayed the ‘little guy’ by voting for cap and trade – what was that? some deal with dupont?) there’s a fine line between creating an economy where everyone can succeed, and one where one’s own (and one’s rich friend’s) empires can be propped up.
and alice, why are you attacking me, when most of the posters above voiced similar concerns. what is it? are you and michelle country club pals? : -)
and one more thing – do we really need more lawyers in washington? their approach seems to be ‘pass more regulation’ instead of ‘get rid of regulation’. however, michelle’s business ownership is a good thing, could help her see ways to improve the economy
