Rethinking the Vegetative State
Feb 4th, 2010 by David Anderson
If some one sees signs of a person diagnosed with minimal consciousness having more, it is because they do. Recent research shows that some people in a “vegetative state” are very conscious, but disconnected from their bodies. Should we not apply our technology to helping tens of thousands of forgotten individuals?
We saw the murder of Terri Schiavo play out on national television. Many closed their minds to the facts because it was uncomfortable to deal with these issues. Yet, Terri showed more signs than the people in the study. Now we are faced with a rationing of health care which could even place barriers for privately raised resources to help the forgotten and isolated.
Nothing is more important in this earth than human well being so humans devoting 1/6 of the economy to bettering it is reasonable. Technology advanced to the point to rescue those people would pay dividends through out the economy. It would advance what could be done in computer technology. It could help with understanding other brain disorders. It could help us to address paralysis. Even more intriguing is that it could change the way we can connect to technology. We could connect to our machines by thought.
The only question is whether or not we will abandon the future in order to fulfill a long term scheme to seize a successful portion of the economy.

In the study, the researchers were looking at parts of the subjects’ brains that were absent from Terry Schiavo. “Rescuing” Terri Schiavo would be the equivalent of creating a new life. If we develop technology to “rescue” people like Terri, that means we can also create whole new living individuals.
Excellent David. Ignore the ever shrinking group of progressives that continually and regularly post here. I honestly believe they may not be able to comprehend common sense. They seem only to be able to comprehend government being the answer. I can’t say it’s all their fault, we as a society have let the left wing ultraradicals paint the world that way. We’re recovering from our Marxist induced comma now and we too are being resucitated and none too soon. Had we stayed absent our civic bodies much longer the Marxist Progressives might have succeeded in pulling that plug.
Their reign of terror is over and their only chance now is to spew hate, ignore facts and statements by their own people and try to ram their unwanted plans through the congress. The problem is that there are still enough Democrats in America who fear the people. Thank God for the American spirit.
The reality is that the Schiavo case may never be solved definitively and even if it was, as we’ve seen from comments on other posts on this site, the progressives would never admit to seeing it. I mean they are so bad at this point that if the progressive ideology said grass can never under any circumstances be any other color but red, they would attempt to change the very definition of the word “red”. Continue to make your case…print your facts and ask your bold questions. Let the progressives hurl their ridiculous accusations and deflect them with the shield of truth. God Bless ya!
The liberals are in a state of disbelief,
