Rep. Castle Can Now Be Found Squirming On Hot Air

Jul 20th, 2009 by Timothy Pancoast

I though I would just post this link to the Hot Air article about the Sussex County “Listening Session”  that Rep. Castle held.  I guess Delaware makes national waves again.  One way or another this is going to be a transformational experience for Congressman Castle.  I hope he continues these listening tours.  I don’t know if it will help him or not, but I think it will help our state, and maybe by extention the nation.

Rush Limbaugh mentioned this stuff and it has gone viral in the last two days. I see the video of the cap and trade is up on hot air now. I often wondered if Rush read this blog, but I just thought it was coincidence. Ah, it is just a coincidence that it had been sitting for weeks with hardly any views and now it is a national phenomenon. He likely picked it up from one of the pick up sites. Whomever it was that posted it on youtube has turned out to be brilliant. Thank you William. The birth certificate one has gone from 63 to over 150K in one day. The other went from 483 to 8145.

I don’t know about all this birth certificate stuff. The man has a U. S. passport, he has a certificate of live birth based upon the original birth certificate, and he was a sitting U. S. Senator which requires verification of citizenship. I blame President Obama for not getting a certified birth certificate out to the public and ending this. It is all on him. It is so late in the game now that even if he did, a lot of people will think it is a forgery.

Mr. Castle’s vote on Cap and Trade was a vote which was rushed and in the end was wrong.
However, he was statesmanlike at the meeting and took the heat and displayed patience and professionalism.
If the meeting helped him shape his views for future votes, so be it.

What Congressman Castle should do is switch to the Democratic Party. When a room full of the Republicans starts booing when you say the President of the United States is a U.S. citizen, you know the GOP is hopelessly lost.

I am all for a two party system, but the GOP has to crack down on this insanity. All you have to do is goggle for two minutes and you get to see birth certificates and all you need to put an end to the vicious rumors.

Chairman Tom Ross should do three things:

1-Issue an apology to Rep. Castle on behalf of the Party.
    2-Vouch for the President.
3-Encourage Republicans to take a break from talk radio for one month.

  4. on 21 Jul 2009 at 10:124think123

FYI- President Bush 41 initiated Cap and Trade policy as a way to harness free market forces to solve the problem of sulfur emissions causing acid rain. It works. It is very capitalist.

As Warren Buffet says, we are in a war for our economic survival. Our greatest vulnerability is our almost total dependence on imported oil. Boone Pickens says we, the US, have 4% of the oil reserves, use 25% of the world oil output, and the anybody who says we can drill out way out of this is “crazy”. Cap and trade is a major, sweeping attempt to change the equation – the price differential favoring oil and coal and giving a leg up to alternatives.

Stop being so negative about every darn thing we want to do to fight this war. Health care and energy. These are battles we need to win.

ah yes, the eternal promise of the left, “we can tax our way to prosperity”

  6. on 21 Jul 2009 at 10:396David Anderson

Tom Ross can’t apologize for people over whom he has no influence. It would be as meaningful as his staff apologizing to him.

Second, I think if Tom Ross wanted to apologize to anyone it should be to the people for having a Representative so out of touch as Congressman Castle. He acted unaware that 30,000 scientists rejected this war on global climate change. He didn’t have a single statistic on the economic impact. I disagree with Mike P. The congressman was not rushed on the concept. It had been floating around the last two years. He is just plain committed to acting on the wrong assumptions. The specifics of this bill were actually a little better than the previous version. It kicks the worst part to the next President in 2019.

One of these fine days I should remind you that the acid rain deal was about encouraging plants to upgrade their infrastructure. It rewarded those who made the investment. It was narrowly focused (not raising the cost of the entire economy dependent upon fuel) and the cost was limited in duration (just buy the scrubbers). It did not shift someone to a permanently higher cost base fuel.

It was part of what pushed us into the recession of 1991 along with the higher taxes and increased regulation. Some people don’t learn from history, they double down on the mistakes.

Read up. Do you even know what cap and trade is? Has nothing to do with “left”. I am not left. President Bush was not left. Take a break from talk radio. This is not left this is energy policy for the United States of America.

By the way, we have been taxing and taxing for a century and we are the most prosperous nation on earth – so think about the actual meaning of those goofy cliches that get repeated over and over and over until you start to think they are true.

  8. on 21 Jul 2009 at 10:488Timothy Pancoast

Hey, Think123, was everyone in that room a Republican? If so, why? Do Independents, Democrats, and other parties not care about health care? These sessions were for the citizens of Delaware, not just the Delaware GOP. I suspect that it wasn’t just Republicans in that meeting who were dissatisfied with Rep. Castle, so please quit with the partisan hackery.

Where were all the positive people that voted for President Obama and support government health care? They weren’t speaking up in Kent County and I’d hazzard a guess that they didn’t bother to show up in Sussex County either.

  9. on 21 Jul 2009 at 12:049RSmitty

That video showing people booing him for defending Obama’s birth certificate over this hysteria is EMBARRASSING as a Delawarean. What in the hell happened to the art of constructive criticism/debate? Has everything that would actually take effort to execute simply vaporized in the name of polarization?

  10. on 21 Jul 2009 at 12:2710think123

Thanks RSmitty. Makes us look dumb, dumber, dumbest.

And Timothy is trying to figure out why is was okay. David is off and running about the recession of 1991 as a way to avoid having to deal with this unfortunate episode in Delaware Republican history.

David, just in case there is the slightest doubt in your mind that you do not know it all. read up on cap and trade – these are great issues to ponder. The Bible councils humility as being a virtue. Walk the walk.

  11. on 21 Jul 2009 at 12:3211Timothy Pancoast

RSmitty, I’ll admit that is a bit unseemly for our state and its reputation, but there was a lot that led us to this point. People didn’t just decide to have bad manners and start shouting overnight for no reason. This is the first time in a while that they have been given an opportunity to speak directly to their elected Representative. They have been communicating with his office for years now through phone calls, emails, and letters, only to receive a form letter in response and then find that he voted against them on Cap-n-trade, they had cause to be miffed.

My hope is that if he has the courage to continue this effort of listening, and then actually represents the voice of the people when he goes to Washington, things will calm down. It is going to be a rough road starting out, because a Congressman being responsive to the voice of their constituents is a path that hasn’t been traveled in some time here in Delaware. However, if he will do it it will set a good precedent for future Representative and their relationship with those they represent.

  12. on 21 Jul 2009 at 13:0212David Anderson

First, these fine people where not identified as Republicans nor did they organize as Republicans. A lot of them were likely independent voters. Second, there is nothing at all embarrassing about trying to get the straight story on something as fundamental as Presidential qualifications. We only have what three qualifications which are, Native born citizen who has lived 14 years in the U. S., 35 years of age, and not be previously banned by term limits or convicted in an impeachment with a disqualification addition. It is not too much of a burden to ask for proof.

We don’t need tax returns, medical records, or college transcripts like media busy bodies try to get. We just want fundamental qualifications. The President did not make them public and he alone is the problem here.

The State of Hawaii said that he is legitimate so I believe them. The President could trouble himself to request they release a certified copy of the original. If he sees no need and believes the short form is fine, then he can’t complain about the result.

I feel no embarrassment that one person asked a legitimate question that is not fashionable in some circles. The Congressman could have answered with something like this. The state of HI has certified to satisfaction of the both the legislative and executive branch of government that President Obama was born in that state. He has a passport and a certificate of live birth which has been deemed sufficient. The state of HI has issued a public confirmation of his American citizenship. The burden is now upon those who wish to prove fraud.

  13. on 21 Jul 2009 at 13:1613RSmitty

The burden is now upon those who wish to prove fraud.

This attempt at fraud has been around since the presidential campaign began in 2007! Just how long is it “acceptable” to bring wingnutterty like that to someone like Rep Castle in a forum that has nothing to do with that, David? Stuff like this is alienating material, and I am dead serious. Think-alikes are OK with it, but people you want to attact, that aren’t already part of your group will have nothing to do with it.

  14. on 21 Jul 2009 at 13:1714David Anderson

I do find the debate about the cap and trade regime to more interesting. This is a real issue trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. As your article noted, we can’t be sure that it will work as designed. They had to tinker with the acid rain design until they were finally willing to let the market function and take their hands off.

As I said, there was a big difference between allowing something that nudges people to make one time cost changes and something that goes after making more expensive a fundamental building block of the economy. I don’t doubt that it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions to some degree though Europe is showing by not very much. The problem is that we don’t have well developed, cost effective alternatives. I discussed recently how we can change that. That type of focus would give us those green jobs not this one.

Another big difference is that the government was looking at this as a way to skim money off for other objectives. That is not exactly market based. It was a hidden tax.

From the link provided by Think123 which is really worth the read. I have seen this in a number of articles, but never so succinctly in one place.

No one knows whether the United States can apply the system as successfully to the much larger problem of global warming emissions, or at what cost to the economy. Following the American example with acid rain, Europe now relies on cap-and-trade to help about 10,000 large industrial plants find the most economical way of reducing their global warming emissions. If Congress approves such a system in this country—the House had approved the legislation as we went to press—it could set emissions limits on every fossil-fuel power plant and every manufacturer in the nation. Consumers might also pay more to heat and cool their homes and drive their cars—all with the goal of reducing global warming emissions by 17 percent below 2005 levels over the next ten years.

But advocates argue that cap-and-trade still beats command-and-control regulation. “There’s not a person in a business anywhere,” says Dan Esty, an environmental policy professor at Yale University, “who gets up in the morning and says, ‘Gee, I want to race into the office to follow some regulation.’ On the other hand, if you say, ‘There’s an upside potential here, you’re going to make money,’ people do get up early and do drive hard around the possibility of finding themselves winners on this.”

My group? I didn’t know that I adopted them. The last time I checked, I didn’t hold any membership in the “get the birth certificate movement”. I believe he is legitimate or the Clintons would have knocked him off the ballot before Super Tuesday. I just don’t see anything to embarrassed about asking a legitimate question that you don’t know the answer to, let alone be embarrassed that someone in Delaware asked it. President Obama did not even attempt to address this issue until late in the campaign and then did not produce a certified birth certificate. I stand by that people have a legitimate beef. I happen to know that the state of HI took it upon themselves to clarify this, but I did not see it on any of the TV news outlets. It was on the wires. Am I suppose to blame someone for not seeing what was not aired?

The President could solve this in one minute. He chooses not to. I think it is a diabolical attempt at distraction. While some people are looking at the birth certificate hand, he is pulling amazing changes to “remake America” with the other. It is a distraction orchestrated by the President himself to sucker punch some of his opponents. That is why I blame him and only him.

I was in the room with Rep. Castle (RINO-GOP) and the one thing we all had in common is we were all citizens of the United States of America…ain’t that enough.

  17. on 21 Jul 2009 at 13:5717Hube

The whole birth certificate thing is nonsense; however, I do so love the reaction of the moonbats to it, especially after the antics of their 9/11 Truther contingent! ;-)

  18. on 21 Jul 2009 at 14:1718annoni

The Birth Certificate solution is simple…

one of you smart bloggers call the DE Dept of Elections and ask for a copy of the documentation they used to confirm candidate Obama’s eligability when they put his name on the ballot.
Then post it on the internet and settle the issue once and for all.

  19. on 21 Jul 2009 at 14:4519Timothy Pancoast

LOL! I crack myself up sometimes. I was completely oblivious to the Birth Certifercate situation. I was just focused on the fact that people were speaking out at the listening session, and it has now gone viral. It took me till now to recongize that the citizenship issue was the main focus.

Anyways that has always been a background issue to me, and it is virtually pointless. I already know that there are too many people in government that don’t pay much attention to the Constitution.

  20. on 21 Jul 2009 at 15:2320annoni

    TP

here is some more of the little people speaking out:

    http://www.freedomslighthouse.com/2009/07/man-tells-hhs-secretary-sebelius-at.html

Here is video of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius being told by a man at a town hall meeting on health care, “”Please carry a message to Mr. Obama that it will be a cold day in hell before he socializes my county.” When Sebelius went on to say that ObamaCare would let people keep their private insurance, the crowd laughed at her. The meeting was held yesterday in Reserve, Louisiana.

  21. on 21 Jul 2009 at 15:3221Timothy Pancoast

Thanks, I am glad these listening sessions are being done in other states and the people are just as aware there as they are here.

It is possible that all these health care town halls are being coordinated by the administration. However, I am glad we had Rep. Castle because he did respond to some of what the citizens of his state had to say. Secretary Sebelius and President Obama will not, becauase what people want and don’t want is not part of their agenda.

  22. on 21 Jul 2009 at 15:4722RSmitty

“your group” was generic. I didn’t mean you owned it. I did mean, for ILLUSTRATION, was that if Republicans wanted people to come into the fold, constantly allowing wingnutters to bray into the limelight over and over, especially with points that have long been debunked, will only serve to thwart those who were seriously considering coming into the fold.

annoni, I see no citation in the Delaware Code that requires ANY documentation of ballot qualifications for Presidential or Vice Presidential Candidates. The law requires a nominating petition signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the respective parties which certifies who are the respective Party Nominees but in the case of the National Candidates there are no documentation requirements of citizenship or age etc.

The applicable section of the Delaware Code is here:

The birth certificate issue seems to be a diversion that a few think may be a high-yield bombshell. Had there been anything to it, Hillary’s snoops (and they include “Dirty Larry” Potts) would have made good use of it as Dave noted.

While is seems strange that the matter was not ended by simply producing the document, there are two possible explanations. One is that there is something embarrassing (but not disqualifying) about the birth certificate. The other is that the issue will serve as a ‘tar baby’ that will divert attention from more meaningful missteps of the Obama Administration.

  25. on 22 Jul 2009 at 08:0025think123

My feeling is conservatives might use this as “white trash bait” to solidify the base. The birth certificate has been produced, is widely available, so to suggest it be “produced” just feeds the white trash element of the Tea Party contingent.

To me, it’s as easy as A-B-C….Anybody But Castle.

  27. on 22 Jul 2009 at 12:4527RSmitty

Be proud Delaware! Once again, politically famous, but this time, you can’t pull out your playbook and try to blame Joe Biden (although I am certain some will try).

  28. on 22 Jul 2009 at 13:0728David Anderson

Interestingly enough the “birth certificate” produced and documented by fact check and Chris Matthews is not a birth certificate. It is a certificate of live birth which is different under HI administration. It does not have all of the information that a birth certificate does. It is sort of a short form which does not have to affirmed under penalty of perjury. It is like the man is calculating that he wants to feed this movement.

I don’t see a difference worth fighting over, but others disagree. There may have been a conspiracy planned 47 years ago to take over America by Muslims. Yes, I jest.

The problem is that you only have to affirm that you are eligible. There is legislation introduced to require that you present a birth certificate when you file. It seems sensible regardless of the current distraction.

does anyone know who the crazy birther lady is. There was a rumor posted at DL that she is from maryland.

Cap and Trade is primarily a vehicle for promoting AlGore’s ‘environmental indulgences’. A lot of Wall Street fat-cat hustlers and the politicians they own love the idea. It is also a prescription for economic disaster for most of us.

The 30-some Democrats who must run in districts where a real two-party race is a possibility saw the light and refused to sign on to the environmental snake oil.

The gaggle of Republicans who signed on to the measure may be reconsidering their folly and may have time to make amends. Let them apologize rather than demand that voters simply ‘relax and enjoy it’.
