Public Apology To My Wife

Mar 18th, 2010 by Frank Knotts

After the release of the health care bill that Pres. Obama and his lackeys in Congress are foisting upon the American citizens, I feel that I owe my wife an apology.

I have now read and heard that this health care reform bill will cost the nation $940 billion, (so you can bet it will be well over a trillion). There is $25 billion in subsidies for consumers who have never  bought insurance before.

There is $8 billion for eleven states and D.C. which already meet the bill’s required level of Medicaid.

There is double counting of Medicare money , there is shifting and hiding and accounting sleight of hand being done, that if a private corporation were to use, they would be hauled before a congressional hearing.

$525 billion in Medicare cuts. And they are hiding a provision in the bill that will make it law that all Federally guaranteed student loans will now be made only by the government, this will put private banks out of the student loan business. Another case of the Obama administration nationalizing another industry of what has been a private sector industry.

The bill has some new taxes embedded within it also, like a new Medicare payroll tax on upper income wage earners. Well at least the President and the Democrats haven’t given up on their favorite tactic, class warfare.

So, we have a bill that will cost over a trillion dollars, and still the Democrats are telling us that it will save us $138 billion over ten years .

This is where I have to apologize to my wife. For years now she has been coming home after  a shopping spree and telling me that even though she spent $200, she saved us money because everything was on sale for 40% or 50% off. So in her world and evidently the world of Democrats, even though you are spending money you are still able to save money. So to my lovely wife I apologize for not understanding the concept.

But seriously, do the Democrats really expect us to buy into this bunk ? Let’s for argument sake say that they can somehow find $138 billion in savings(not likely though),they have still spent $802 billion new dollars. How does this reduce the deficit? You can not reduce the deficit by spending more money, that’s like me saying that I’m going to increase the amount of money in my sving account by spending it.

Just think about the fact that they are adding in $25 billion in subsidies, we all know that subsidies raise the cost of everything that they are applied to.

There will be no savings from this bill. The tax payers will pay higher taxes, health care cost will go up, quality of health care will go down, the deficit will explode.

President Obama and the Democrats are insane if they think they can put this over on the American citizens and not suffer for it. That or they believe that the majority of the citizens are too stupid to see exactly what this bill is intended to do, and that is to take over a sixth of the nation’s economy and to control every aspect of our lives.

And as an aside, President Obama has been gathering votes for this bill by promising to move quickly on immigration reform. This comes directly from Rep. Luis Gutierrez D-Ill. who said that he had promised to vote for the health care bill as long as the president promised to advance an immigration bill quickly. People,  do not  underestimate this President, he has a vision and a plan, and health care , education and immigration are the three legs of the stool that is the plan,  and a fascist state is the vision.

The only good news is that he has spent his political capital on this bill. He won’t be able to get cap and tax, card check, and open borders. I think that he will get education. If he loses this vote, they will rush it through because they need a victory. If he wins it, they will rush it through because they need to change the subject.

Your wife is correct. When she buys all those winter things in January at 50% off and puts them away, next November when it gets cold you don’t have to go out and pay full price for a coat or sweater. You already have new stuff you paid half price for.

Let’s for argument sake say that they can somehow find $138 billion in savings(not likely though),they have still spent $802 billion new dollars.

How else did you expect to insure those 35 million uninsured?

if the Federal Government offered you the contract to insure 35 million new customers – How much would YOU charge?

The average individual plan from private insurance now costs about $5000/year.

But $800 billion for insuring 35 million people works out to about $2300/yr.

So the Federal Government is getting coverage for those citizens at about 40% off, just like your wife. Pretty smart!

And it’s not like the money is being wasted. All those people are getting health coverage.

  3. on 18 Mar 2010 at 23:183David Anderson

We need a good bill not any bill. This bill will raid Medicare and Social security, tax existing benefits, tax medical equipment for the disabled, and slash medicaid for the poor. It will hire 16K irs agents to make sure you buy health insurance. Oddly enough it will also nationalize student loans.

Is that your idea of smart policy?

  4. on 19 Mar 2010 at 01:064Timothy Pancoast

I’m afraid that after this article you really do owe your wife an apology. You are almost as bad as Glenn Beck. ;)

Solid points about the health care bill though. It isn’t saving anything when you spend what you don’t really have.

  5. on 19 Mar 2010 at 07:465anon

It isn’t saving anything when you spend what you don’t really have.

Like if you have four kids, you can save money by only providing health care for three of them.

  6. on 19 Mar 2010 at 08:036Nosy

Actually Anon, no. You pay the same insurance premium for having one child as you would if you had 3. It’s called the “Family” plan rate. Husband, wife and child(ren) is how it’s worded. So you wouldn’t save money by only providing health care for 3 out of your 4 kids.

  7. on 19 Mar 2010 at 08:097Timothy Pancoast

As tragic as that scenario is, if you don’t have money to pay for your children’s health care than not paying money for their health care does not equate to saving money.

While a penny saved is a penny earned you can’t save a penny that was never earned to begin with.

Your scenario also ignores the people, churches, charities, and other programs already in place to help families that find themselves in such situations. Even if you don’t have money to save, you can still save the lives of your children if you are willing to seek and accept the help of others that have willingly extended it.

  8. on 19 Mar 2010 at 08:408anon

So you wouldn’t save money by only providing health care for 3 out of your 4 kids.

Where do you get this plan without co-pays and deductibles; I’d like to switch.

  9. on 19 Mar 2010 at 09:109Old Guy

“This bill will raid Medicare and Social security, tax existing benefits, tax medical equipment for the disabled, and slash medicaid for the poor. It will hire 16K irs agents to make sure you buy health insurance. Oddly enough it will also nationalize student loans.”

David, you are really off base. I am on Medicare and Social Security. In my own self interest I follow this. I was glad AARP endorsed this reform. It will extend Medicare solvency. Your terms raid and slash are just not honest, for lack of a better word. I don’t know why you can’t talk regular. It might cut this or that but no slash no raid. You might scare old people not in the know, but not me.

On student loans, pretty much government now. Who else would lend school money to teenagers with no job? The government insures the loans. So these “private lenders” reap all the profit like any lender, but unlike any lender they can’t lose. What a deal, I’m all for ending that. That sweetheart set up costs the Government billions. So now we let the private operators earn money administering the loan, but they don’t get the interest profit. I have been hoping for these changes, they are finally coming.

What is hard to figure is crying about deficit everything bankrupt then every time we try to save money, do things like curtail non-essential medical equipment, these same people start screaming about slashing and raiding. Don’t make any sense to me. Too much politics on TV. Not enough old time patriotism.

  10. on 19 Mar 2010 at 09:2810DEConservative(Evan Q)

“Where do you get this plan without co-pays and deductibles…”-anon

In America we pay for the things we want, need and desire. Where the heck do you get the idea that you should be provided healthcare because you are alive? You do not have a RIGHT to anyone elses time, money, property or services without just compensation. It’s that damn simple. You pay a co-pay at the doctor so that YOU the consumer have some buy-in and you don’t waste time and money by showing up at the doctor with a sniffle when a $7 bottle of cough medicine would fix you up fine. Grow up you lunatic and take responsibility for your own life. Stop trying to get everything for free.

In fact, if you progressive idiots WOULD stop begging for free crap, there would be more money in your checks AND goods and services we all want, need and desire would be CHEAPER.

  11. on 19 Mar 2010 at 09:3611David Anderson

How am I off base? I am just looking at the CBO summaries. How will it make medicare more secure when it raids the savings? You are like a turkey looking forward to Thanksgiving. The AARP is facing a revolt and deservedly so. I urge seniors not to cancel their membership, but run for the offices within the AARP. Contact us and we will help you orgainize. Depolitics@gmail.com

Everyone with a modicum of common sense knows the federal government has a pathetic track-record at projecting costs of anything they do. Those without common sense are the propagandized suckers you see on this forum, defending BO and socialized medicine. What dupes.

SS, Medicare and Medicaid are Ponzi schemes that are doomed to fail, and raiding the ‘trust fund’ (there is no trust and there is no fund) is theft- if an evil private insurance company handled the ‘trust funds the way Congress does, they’d be in federal court.

    Socialist-Democrat = Thief

    “Socialist-Democrat = Thief”

Hey Rick and Evan, is this you guys?

  14. on 19 Mar 2010 at 18:5714Frank Knotts

anon ask,”How else did you expect to insure those 35 million uninsured? ” anon my dear dear friend, I don’t expect to pay for them, I expect them, to pay for their own, the same as I am willing to do. I guess this is where you break out the violin music and tell me how they can’t because all of the rich people like me have all of the money huh ?
Hey Old Guy, did you read the part about cutting $525 billion from Medicare ? Sounds like a pretty good slash to me.
And on school loans the Old Guy says, “On student loans, pretty much government now. I have been hoping for these changes, they are finally coming.” Well old guy the problem is that now some government agent will get to decide who gets the loans. Won’t be surprised to see afirmative action quotas go up also . I don’t understand how some people are so willing to be weak and or lazy and allow the government to run every aspect of their lives. For goodness sake are you liberals so incapable of making good decisions on your own that you must allow the government “EXPERTS” to make them for you?

I think it is great that Frank is apologising to his wife for legislation for which neitherhe or his wife has any input or control over. This is the way to a happy marriage. You are very wise Frank and you know which side of the bread you need to butter!!!

I hope you never have to apologise to your wife for Iran getting Nukes.
