Psycho Wingnuts From Any Party NOT Welcomed!

Mar 12th, 2009 by RSmitty

By “psycho,” read on for clarification.  There are wingnuts who are like that odd relative you don’t mind keeping around, but then there are “psycho” wingnuts who have a real potential for real damage.  Read on.

I read with interest the response on DE Lib to the recent influx of alleged conservative-media loyalists to their site.  While sudden spikes in comments, etc. are common once key words or phrases hit the inner-tubes and picked up by partisan outlets are common, it’s what happened within that influx that disturbs me deeply.

In the post, Delaware Dem makes note of how a contributor was outed, until the comment was moderated off (deleted).  Since I know many of them personally (afterall, I have been oft accused of kanoodling with the enemy), I phoned one of them for the scoop.

The attempt at outing a contributor was very, very real.  To the point that this commenter had the gall to attempt to invade the private life this contributor.  This is wrong and should probably start to be monitored for possible criminal intent.  It’s hard to see anything criminal yet, but the internet can be somewhat of a gateway, so monitoring it would be wise.

Let me make this clear.  Whether you agree with me or not does not matter.  If you are my friend, you are in no doubt a real friend.  I will stand with you, and I think I have actions in the past that back that up.  Again, I couldn’t care less if our ideologies are on par or on opposite poles.

I don’t know if I can speak for all contributors here, but I will stand up and say to that person who most certainly crossed that line, don’t even come here.  Don’t comment, don’t even read.  You are dispicable.  I couldn’t care at all if you agree with 60% of the contributors here.  You are scum.  It is in fact people like you that will maintain an unelectability image of the Republican Party, for you do these things in the so-called defense of the Party.  Utterly clueless, that’s your method.

Stop crying about your First Amendment rights as well.  First of all, it’s a blog, not a public venue, in the sense of your “rights.”  Many things are tolerated, but what you did is far from that.  Also, when your so-called “First Amendment Rights” are in fact causing duress and possible injury to another party, guess what?  It immediately comes into question the protectibility of your speech.

People like you need to get a real life.  Trolling the internet for people to trash and to cause harm is on the same level as person-to-person stalking with intent to harm.

Psycho-wingnut-dude: go away, get a life, and don’t come back.

No one at Delaware Liberal deserves any slack for anything. I loudly applaud anyone who causes mischief over there.

  2. on 12 Mar 2009 at 09:162RSmitty

No. You either read the Cliff Notes of this post, or let your experience with them cloud my point. What that commenter did was way over the line. It took effort and took investigation to do what that person did and then went to the first step of the unimaginable. I personally won’t waver, it was dead-wrong and goes beyond shenanigans (lack of a better word).

  3. on 12 Mar 2009 at 10:033Hube

I share Dave’s thought. They deserve about 98% of the crap that they get over there. But the outing of folks — and especially posting their personal info — is in that no-no 2%.

I called Feroce on this site for using a DLers real name; I stand by it 100%.

  4. on 12 Mar 2009 at 10:084RSmitty

Trust me, it was wicked, and I don’t mean in that awe-inspiring, Boston-type-of-wicked. It was evil-wicked.

  5. on 12 Mar 2009 at 10:185Hube

Sort of sounds like this, you mean?

  6. on 12 Mar 2009 at 10:286RSmitty

Oh man, that Prop 8 fight is real ugly out there. A friend of mine (a transplant from Philly to “The OC”) keeps me up-to-date with the goings-on. He is in support of civil unions, and as a result, has been “contacted” about his ways (which is funny, because he is very much a heterosexual, but stereotypes and all dictates that his empathetic ways indiacte otherwise…right?). To be honest with you, Hube, and I know you are simply gathering perspective, yeah, it was kinda like that, but obviously on a smaller scale. Any scale, though, is horrible.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the electability of the GOP. We don’t need to go there.

The rest of what you said is on target. I don’t think John was that far to the wrong because the writer had used his name himself several times a few months ago. This is a different circumstance.

As the SCOUS said anonymous stating of political views is essential to our system. How would the outing of Madison writing with Jay and Hamilton affected our history during their work called the Federalist Papers. They all used the same pseudonym. Why? It allowed the people of New York the expertise of Madison without parochial interests coming into play. Jay and Hamilton were already well known for their positions. They wanted reinforcements. We have all benefited and continue to benefit from that collaboration.

We have to protect the system even when we don’t like the players or all of us will suffer in the long run.

Just caught your post, Smitty. Thanks. The incident was very disturbing.

  9. on 12 Mar 2009 at 22:539LiberalGeek

For the record, the person called my home, asking for me (I had stepped out). He then attempted to post my identity and contact information on DL.

  10. on 13 Mar 2009 at 07:1510RSmitty

Hey, there will be no outing of yourself, pal! ;-)

I didn’t want to actually identify to whom it happened, but I can’t argue that if you do it yourself! Has creep-o-zoid calmed down, or is there more?

  11. on 13 Mar 2009 at 08:0511LiberalGeek

    No word.

  12. on 13 Mar 2009 at 08:2312Hube

Geek: As the most sane member of the DL crew, why, of all people, did it have to happen to YOU??

OK, seriously — what happened is just plain nuts. I hope you’re taking the appropriate actions!

  13. on 13 Mar 2009 at 08:3913donviti

you forgot the part where assholes shouldn’t also put other peoples names out there that have alias…

    elwood,

No one at Delaware Liberal deserves any slack for anything. I loudly applaud anyone who causes mischief over there.

well elwood you would be a fucking idiot.

I don’t know why everyone is beating around the fucking bush here. Some fucking whackjob called a DL writer. Found their name, phone number and called them…

it wasn’t mischief dipshit. It was way over the line.

  15. on 13 Mar 2009 at 09:0815Elwood Blues

    Get a job, bitch.

  16. on 13 Mar 2009 at 09:1716Hube

it wasn’t mischief dipshit. It was way over the line.

I know you’re not talking to me, donviti, considering that’s precisely what I said!

  17. on 13 Mar 2009 at 11:0217RSmitty

    Nah, he’s talking to Elwood.

Man, someone bring back Jake. Elwood’s done gone batshit.

Do we really need the schoolyard antics and language?

I visit sites like this because I enjoy some good discussion on a variety of topics. Unfortunately all this thread needs is a couple “yo mama” insults and I’ll start having flashbacks of middle school. What makes it worse is I am pretty sure that there is some legitimate discussion and valid points hidden behind all the insults.

Sorry for the interruption, you may now return to the insult throwdown, or start a real conversation.

What is this fetish for anonymity on the Internet?

I have wondered about it from the start and have used screen names that left little to the imagination. A few times I made up screen names for satirical posts but this was the exception rather than the rule.

There is a certain civility that has long been part of our style of political discourse and our Nation does have the highest standards in this respect. The anonymity of the Internet does threaten to use a valuable tool for political discussion into the electronic analog to a public bathroom wall where all sorts of frustration can be expressed in a vulgar manner.

That said, I do respect the privacy of any person who chooses anonymity.

Discussions of private personal matters (especially sexuality) have no place in ideological debate.
