Prediction Thread: Most Mud-Slinging of ’08
Sep 17th, 2008 by RSmitty
I was wondering this morning about which Delaware campaign will dig the deepest and sling the most mud. Statewide or local, there will be at least one that will resort to bitter nastiness, there always is.
For fun, I am curious about everyone elses’ take on this. Which election do you think will take that turn downward and leave bruises upon each of the candidates’ faces?
I will start the thread with comment #1.

I am going with the State Senate District 10 race of Jim Weldin (R) v. Bethany Hall-Long (D).
Both have material on their opponent and neither is hesitant to use it. I don’t know much more about Jim Weldin’s political history than that. BHL, on the other hand…well…you give her something, she, as well as her supporting committees, will wring every available drop of opportunity out of that material. Gross exaggerations aren’t out of her campaigning history, either.
Jim and Bethany: I have popped my popcorn and I await your show.
My runner-up: John Atkins (D) (v Greg Hastings (R)) of State Rep Dist 41. It’s my runner up, because I expect the low road to come mostly, if not completely, from the side of challenger John Atkin’s campaign or “unknown” supporters.
I hope it doesn’t happen. It is what is wrong with politics.
The problem is that people are so turned off by it that some people fall for charges that the discussion of issues and records are mudslinging. They don’t listen to legitimate concerns and then wonder why government is failing. I wish I could wave my arms and make the issues take center stage. I can’t but the voters can by asking questions that matter.
Hey, stay on topic! Predictions!!!!
You are correct, tho. HOWEVER, I was hoping to make at least a little fun out of the crappy side of politics.
Okay, forgive my venting. I think some of the worst ones were in the primaries. Look at New Castle County Executive. I think the Atkins machine will try their games again. I don’t know enough about the 10th Senate candidates especially Mr. Weldin to make a call. I defer to you there.
Well, I am happy to see an Angel-Anderson prediction hasn’t made its way here.
Hey, Angel is bomb and the worse person in the world. That Anderson guy is a bit of a kook. What a sad choice! Just kidding.
What about the Insurance Commissioner’s race? The guys over at DelLib have already floated the idea that the DelGOP won’t do enough to support John Brady ’cause he bats from the wrong side of the plate. Foundation set for a whisper campaign?
I recall that conversation, too. I all but guaranteed that once the primaries past, that the support would escalate tremendously.
I have seen some movement upward in regard to support, but I’d like to see more. There is still a little time before it should be questioned, though.
There should be a huge turn to Brady after the nasty campaigning from Stewart against Reed. Many democrats are looking for someone to vote for so they won’t have to resort to an airhead that is indebted to the sleazy Senator Harris McDowell, like Stewart is and has been for the last five years. It’s surprising that Republicans aren’t realizing that the insurance commissioner’s office should be a win for them, if they can get over that “whisper” campaign crap and just deal with it. You sound like little kids on the playground. Get over it and get Brady elected. And yes, I’m a democrat!
Honestly, I don’t know any republicans doing a whisper campaign on him. That all started as speculation way early in the primary season by contributors on Delaware Liberal. John Brady is highly respected within the party. If there is crap being said, then it’s sad but coming from elsewhere, at least as far as I can tell.

Karen was quoted by communitypub.com as saying “I didn’t really plan that I was going to win.” Not a very affirmative comment from someone who expects to be elected to a state-wide office.
