Polly Wanna Participate Now?

Nepotism Barbie needs to leave Ken at home....
The Sussex Countian is reporting that Polly Adams has decided to participate in the Sussex League of Women Voter’s forum on July 30th at the County Council Chambers on the circle in Georgetown:
Democratic State Senate candidate Polly Adams Mervine confirmed on Monday that she will take part in a Thursday candidate’s forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters….
“Thursday will be a very tough day. Dad was the rock of our family and the fair was a big part of his life,” Mervine said. “But so was serving the people of the 19th District and I think he’d want me at this forum explaining how I plan to carry on that commitment to service.”
I guess her Dad wouldn’t have wanted her at the Crossroads Community Church forum in her hometown of Bridgeville in between Bridgeville and Georgetown.
Meanwhile another blog is reporting that Sweet Polly Purebred had a little…um…issue…at a meet and greet in Milton:
This past week, Milton Town Councilwoman Leah Betts held a meet-and-greet at her house for Mervine, with about 125 people attending. Approximately 75%-80% were gay and lesbian.
One attendee asked Mervine the following question – “Your father was an adamant foe to equality for gays and lesbians. If SB 121 were to come up for a vote today and you were in the Senate, would you vote in favor of the bill?”
Mervine’s answer and follow-up comments from her husband shocked everyone in attendance – “No, I would not vote for that bill. Most of my constituents are conservative Mennonites and I need to represent their views.” Then her husband chimed in – “Why would you even ask her that question. She’s on the board of Clear Space, so she works with you people. And if you want to talk about discrimination, if you’re not gay, you can’t get on that board.”
Polly, seriously, next time leave the husband at home so he doesn’t tell a group of voters he’s blatantly insulting that you’re a lesbian. It’s bad enough that you told that group of voters that you need to represent other voter’s views over their views.
And one more little hint, the people your husband so callously called “you people” will write about you on the Internet, the Mennonites…probably not so much….

FYI, Crossroad isn’t in Bridgeville. It’s actually closer to Georgetown – 6 miles to the Circle, 8 to downtown Bridgeville.
Noted. Thank you.

I am not sure, but I do know there are more Mennonites, and Baptists, Wesleyan Methodists, and Pentecostals in the district and they will make up a majority of the electorate.
If I took it upon myself to go to such a meeting, which I doubt, I would have said I am more into looking forward not backward. I had problems with the language of the bill. The proponents insist that it won’t have unintended consequences, if it does not I am fine with the bill, if it does, I will seek to rectify them. You won that battle, congratulations now let’s work on bettering everyone’s life Gay or Straight.
It is interesting how she doesn’t handle things. If they were going to put her in the meeting, why would they not give her a stock answer? If they didn’t like it, answering for her is not workable unless they do a ventriloquist act. Her answer may not have gone over as popular in the room, but it was realistic and acceptable once it got out. It may have made her look like she actually had a little bit of backbone by saying that I will stand with my district’s values regardless of what you want to hear (even if it sounded like the Mennonites made me–considering they are nice pacifists that is interesting ).
I don’t believe her husband’s helps. It nullified the little step toward independence that she showed. It insulted the questioners without cause (“you people” are the ones discriminating ),and made her look to SB 121 opponents like she is a closet sympathizer. It is hard work to look like a bigot and a closet sympathizer in the same response, but the Mervine’s managed it. (I doubt they are either one.) No wonder they tried to stay with scripted events.
In politics, you will sometimes make one side or another of a controversial issue unhappy. That may be statesmanship. You should never make both sides unhappy. That may be incompetence.
I agree with you that she needs to give him a project far away. Great Post!
I agree Ms. Mervine should participate but let’s be honest the GOP has used name/family for advantage also.
In the last 10-12 years one state senator and one representative went into office after their husband’s untimely death. They indeed earned it but the initial push was to use their family name ID.
Mike Protack
“She’s on the board of Clear Space, so she works with you people… if you’re not gay, you can’t get on that board.”
…did Jay Mervine just say his wife is a lesbian…? That shouldn’t sit too well with the ol’ Mennonites.
Sorry there Mr. Protack. The committee didn’t want the Adams legacy to continue. The state senators wanted Polly. The committee didn’t vote Polly in at the first caucus. The senators went out of their way to find something wrong with Parker. DeLuca wanted Parker out! They dug back 31 years. They were elated to get rid of him. Polly is being pushed by the old has-beens in the community that still want to maintain their social status. Voters are sick of the Adams entitlement attitude. Voters were really tired of Sen. Adams before his death. If you don’t think so, look at the vote in the Representative contest in 2008 between Chaffinch(D) and Wilson(R). That campaign was a vote against Adams. The committee people in that district knew what they were doing, and the second time around, Adams only won because the ONLY choice was Adams or Rogers. The vote was against Adams, not FOR Rogers. They just got tired of voting. Maybe those high and mighty senators, and the rich Aunt Ruthie can go wallow in a whole somewhere. All of this because Aunt Ruthie threatened them with no more money for their campaigns. They should stay the hell out of Sussex and let those hard-working Democrat committee people choose who they thing is best. Money and power. They need to get over it. And husband Jay, he’s just a jerk. He’s so high and mighty that the Lions Club “doesn’t fit in with his lifestyle.” Imagine that – an organization that helps the blind as well as people in the community.

Like someone said, “follow the money.” And I would bet money that her check was written way before July 7th, too. It was only registered July 7, but Booth had it before then. If the truth were known, he had it in his hands a couple of days after the first committee vote on July 1. Now, if ole Aunt Ruthie would tell us why! Bitterness? Loss of status? Loss of control? How dare you oppose me? What a sick family. “You people” comes to my mind. What a waste for these committed Democrats, who are out there making calls and handing out literature, sweating their eyeballs out for a greedy bunch who think this seat is “entitled” to an Adams. It’s a sad day of exposure about the family, but it’s an eye opener to the voter in this district.
