Ron Poliquin Launches Website
31st District Republican Representative Candidate Ron Poliquin launched his website see first draft page for more about Mr. Poliquin. Mr. Poliquin, a local attorney, is the first candidate to launch a campaign to challenge freshman Representative Darryl Scott whose votes on taxes and marriage have raised concerns among some in the district. There are 3 other Republicans rumored to be interested including former Rep. Nancy Wagner, former Commissioner Ron Smith, and former Mayor James Hutchison. It is doubtful all will enter the race.

Where are all the crazy pro wrestling pictures?
Pro Wrestling is cool not crazy, I think it would draw young people and show a fun side to balance the lawyer stereotype. I really laugh at the critics who think they can get mileage out of a popular hobby. Maybe he is to manly for them.
I don’t see Poliquin as being the candidate. My sources tell me that he does not have local support and that some that he listed as supporters on his website are not committed to him. There will be more coming in the next 2 weeks.
Never said pro wrestling was crazy, however the pictures make him look like a nut!
I hear there will be another candidate in the race soon, one who will take the local GOP back to the good ol’ days of nasty campaigns and rejected leadership. Sounds like it will be a clear choice between going backward and going forward for those voters.
anon…interesting thoughts…no comment or argument from me at this time
I think Poliquin will be the candidate now that Rep. Nancy Wagner dropped out unless Commissioner Ron Smith makes an all out push. It would be an interesting race. It could draw so much attention that the incumbent could be left out and forgotten in the media. Smith could pull some of the pro-family constituency, some anti-tax voters, and a lot of the business community. If Mayor Hutchison gets in, Poliquin wins with the anti-tax activists and pro-family voters. The business vote will be split hopelessly.
My folks say that Smith is in to stay.
I think you are right. The man has 5 figures in his war chest. Why not run? He is certainly qualified. No one knows the process better or understands lawmaking better.
I keep hearing this term “qualified”…are we basing that off of the “qualifications” of the current crop of legislators? If so, no wonder we’re stuck in a rut. If all we do is elect people who turn a blind eye to prisoner neglect, hire cronies for jobs they PROMISED they wouldn’t hire them for, and worry more about how to get bus loads of fixed income seniors into the racinos than fixing our schools, there will never be any positive change/growth in our state.
FYI: The above statement is not a suggestion that any 31st District Candidate would, does or did support any of these ideas. It’s an indictment of our current elected base.
This man stands for the people!! Look at his record. And his opposition wants another 20 years in Levy Court to do what??? Ron Smith has been totally ineffective. Ron Poliquin won a $ 200 million suit on behalf of the TAXPAYERS of Delaware, get it?? The people!!! He is a fighter, dramatic speaker, and very effective at instituting change! GIVE HIM A CHANCE – he is not more of the same old “boys club” mentality that permeates Delaware Government. He is young, idealistic, and can’t be bought. He has morals and stands for what MOST taxpayers in this state are looking for. So he entertains in the boxing ring?! So WHAT!!! He obviously entertained successfully in the Delaware State Supreme Court too!!
Wow Betsy…pretty strong case…what’s the other side got?
Also, is it possible that DA and TP (or any other Delaware Politics writers) could team up and do a piece on (or interview with) each one of these candidates so we could learn more about their ideas, the principles that guide them and what they have to offer?
I know Delaware’s political gamesmanship is such that normally the politicians hide in their districts talking locally because as I’ve been told “Every handshake is another possible vote.” but the politics of the past are kind of done here. Sure it’s important to be int he community and such but the more viral the candidates are the more exposure they can get in less time. Too many of the “old heads” haven’t really caught on to that yet…shame to see it I think but in some cases you gotta learn the hard way I guess.
Tennesse Walker – your “folks” are what’s wrong with Delaware Government!
Dave Anderson – Ron Poliquin also has 5 figures! Is that what “qualilfies” Ron Smith??? Effectiveness and achievement should be what “qualifies” a candidate, not his war chest!
I think Betsy represents the sentiments of a much larger portion of the population than many people in the political world are expecting. The GOP is convinced for instance that Castle is a lock in the Senate…If the people out there really focus their money the way they appear to be and get behind his GOP primary challenger they way they appear to be…he may not makle it out of the primary.
Ron Smith has been in politics so long that he IS part of the problem, not the solution. What did he accomplish in his 20 years? The Levy Court handles property assessments, street lights, the sewer system. We all know there are barely ANY street lights in Delaware, especially in the neighborhoods, and the sewer system is a mess and has been for a very long time. Time for a MAJOR change in players here. Out with the old “tax and spend” politicians and time for new young blood with ideas that benefit the people and reign in the government. Ron Poliquin stands for accountability of taxpayer dollars. With people like Ron Smith in office, HAS ANYTHING GOTTEN BETTER?????
