O’Donnell in Her Own Words

Mar 10th, 2010 by David Anderson

“My name is Christine O’Donnell, and I’m here today to officially announce my candidacy in the 2010 Special Election for the US Senate seat vacated by Joe Biden.  I’m running for US Senate to help change the direction of our country and because I sense like you the America we knew and grew up with is being threatened in the most serious way.  I’m running because our nation’s founding principles of individual liberty and free enterprise are no longer viewed by our leaders as indispensable.  I’m running because the people of Delaware deserve a representative who will stand up to the Washington elites and fight back against a Congress and White House intent on saddling us with their reckless spending, unbearable taxes and unfair policies that stifle our freedom and weigh down future generations with a debt that will shackle them for the rest of their lives.
The focus of my campaign will be on jobs and our economy, with a continued defense of the first principles of life and liberty. It doesn’t take an expert to figure out that our county is going broke. And if you want someone who embraces what the Founding Fathers envisioned a straight shooting, qualified citizen-politician to go to Washington and serve, then I hope to earn your support.  We, you and I, view over-spending and over-regulation by Washington as the problem and not the solution to our economic challenges.  At this pivotal time in our nation’s history this, along with the security of our homeland, should be the focus of our attention and energy. The voters deserve a candidate who believes deficits are wrong, and that deficits destroy nations just as surely as they do families.  Voting to spend money you don’t have has become an appealing option for too many politicians and common sense men and women of America know this is not sustainable.
The Delaware voters deserve a candidate who understands that governments can’t spend their way to recovery and they cannot tax the country into prosperity.  That is why I have made the decision to run for US Senate.  I’m one of six children raised by parents who taught me that while life can be hard, hard work will also make life better.  During my campaign, I’ve been touched and motivated by the support of Delawareans and other Americans, optimistic like you,  that our country can recover from the economic hole we’re in and that we can do better than the so-called “leaders” we have in Washington.
The problem is we don’t have enough elected leaders who understand that, far too often, the actions of Congress kill job growth and lead to higher taxes and bigger deficits.  Politicians who vote to spend money we do not have are just as guilty as the politicians who then vote for the higher taxes needed to pay for over-spending.  Suffocating government regulations and red tape stifle businesses and kill jobs. We can begin the effort to turn this country around and give to future generations the same opportunities of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that we were given, but only if we limit and roll back the damage wrought by liberal arrogance and career politicians in Washington.

“The voters deserve a candidate who believes deficits are wrong,”

now you’re talking, never thought of that . .

  2. on 10 Mar 2010 at 17:012David Anderson

It will be unique. You can’t spend yourself into recovery or tax your way into prosperity. With the exceptions of Bonini and Wagner, what officeholders in Delaware proclaims such things. They are few and far between.

  3. on 10 Mar 2010 at 17:523Frank Knotts

And before the usual suspects show up and cry that Ms. O’Donnell didn’t outline her plans to achieve her stated goals, well I would suggest that they read the statement again. She speaks of lower taxes, less government spending and less government intervention in our lives through over regulation. Sounds like a good way to spread prosperity to me.

  4. on 10 Mar 2010 at 19:554Evan Q

I’m sure those “usual suspects” will still complain, reading is challenging to them. That said, I’m sure she will issue campaign position papers and if Castle and his supporters could get together and attend a debate with Christine there would be more info on her positions. It will be interesting to see if the Congressman will man up to a real primary race or if he’ll continue sending out his hit pieces and minions to attempt to downplay Christine and to attack her finances.

I personally find it laughable that they have to resort to those tactics but what else should we expect from the most liberal member of Congress?

  5. on 10 Mar 2010 at 21:005T123

Tax and debt have been campaign themes for 200 years. Let’s hold candidates feet to the fire. What better time than now?

Why not all of us agree on at least one thing? Candidates must be required to outline specific plans.

    1. I will Lower Taxes: I will lower tax A,B, and C. I estimate that will save taxpayers X amount. Tax cuts are also revenue cuts, so the cuts I propose will increase the deficit by X amount.

    2. I will Cut The Deficit: I lower revenue by lowering taxes . . . . .but, I can reduce the deficit at the same time by doing the following: A, B, C.

Please don’t make this into some kind of argument. Every voter, every interest group left or right has to get some nuts and bolts from candidates. We elect too many sweet talkers. “I will return us to the principles that made us a great nation of families.” “I want every American to have health care”. Okay show us the plan.

  6. on 11 Mar 2010 at 06:396Frank Knotts

T123, first of all if you lower taxes as you suggest in your #1 then you will actually raise revenue, it has been proven. That is as long as you don’t raise spending.
EvanQ, don’t look for Mr. Castle to even recognize the O’Donnell campaign. I predict that he will attempt to play it off as a joke. He will say things like he is focussing on the general election. He most likely will refuse to debate her because he would be forced to defend his voting record against a conservative. How does he defend his cap and trade vote against someone who wouldn’t vote for it. In the general election against a Democrat he wouldn’t even be asked because the Democrat would also be for it. This is why the GOP supporters of the Castle campaign are so frightened of Ms. O’Donnell, Castle has never had to run against a real conservative , so he has always been able to position himself as one. If there is a debate and also in her own appearences , Ms. O’Donnell should focus on Mr. Castle’s liberal voting record.

  7. on 11 Mar 2010 at 09:427DEConservative(Evan Q)

Frank…I understand what you are saying and agree. However, I think if he does not debate her…he makes a grave mistake. He will alienate the conservative base of the party and he’ll pay dearly in the general election because even Chris Coons is more fiscally conservative than Castle.

Founders Values has proposed a neutral debate, in a neutral location and neutral moderator (local radio talent is all I will say). The debate is 90 mins long. The structure is a single moderator for 60 mins, audience questions from notecards, screened and read by the moderator for 20 mins and then 10 mins of closing arguments. The group has even offered the campaigns to suggest other alternatives to the debate structure, date and time.

If the calculation is to ignore Christine it’s not looking good for Mike Castle.

  8. on 11 Mar 2010 at 09:528T123

Frank, lowering taxes is not “proven” as a way to increase revenue. It is a new theory that has been debated every which way. It’s not right to sell it as a slam dunk proven way.

1992-2000: Higher taxes = 23 million new jobs, balanced budget.

2000-2008: Lower taxes = 3 million new jobs, largest deficits in history.

In the 2000 – 2008 period we abandoned pay as you go. We should have raised taxes to pay for the wars, but the feeling was we needed to stimulate the economy after 9/11. So we passed the biggest tax cut in history. The new President entered office facing a $1.2 trillion dollar deficit and a bailout program. Why try to sell the same program? It’s only been 14 months. We still have two wars. Still have trillion dollars deficits? What taxes does Ms. O”Donnell want to cut and by how much? We deserve to know. I’m not going to clap every time a politician delivers some ear candy.

She’d be better off advocating pay as you go. No tax cuts without cutting an equal amount in spending. No new spending without the tax to pay for it.

    From the Community News:
Aside from members of the media, the room was filled with campaign supporters except for former senior campaign staffer David Keegan, who said he worked for O’Donnell in 2008 and planned to ask O’Donnell about her finances. Keegan, of Hockessin, was escorted out of the press conference by campaign officials, who told him only those with press credentials were invited, while he loudly proclaimed that he was responding to a Facebook invitation.

“She had me escorted out because she was afraid of what I would say,” he said after the press conference.

  10. on 11 Mar 2010 at 10:2210DEConservative(Evan Q)

rationalize this – didn’t you already post this somewhere and no one commented? You were escorted out because you were being obnoxious and getting loud. It’s an announcement press conference and they’ve got every right to walk you outside. Protest from there. That’s the one place where they should be allowed to dictate who stays and who goes. Besides that, you’re not a journalist or a supporter so what would give you the right to ask a question?

You were a plant by the Castle campaign, sent to derail an otherwise nice announcement event. You GOP establishment muckdwellers are scum and everyone sees you that way. Smile and pat eachother on your millionaire backs and watch how your party crumbles to the ground around your idiotic feet.

  11. on 11 Mar 2010 at 10:4711rationalizethis

EvanQ I’m not Keegan but I appreciate your black helicopter attitude.

If O’Donnell is going to be a US Senator from Delaware, she can’t hide from the people of Delaware. She won’t be able to run a campaign where she insulates herself from her own words about not taking a job so she can live off of contributions, and she won’t be able to insulate herself from possibly unpaid former campaign staffers.

I find it ironic that people like you and Frank speculate that Castle will avoid her, while she avoids questions about her past campaigns and campaign finances, and has former staffers thrown out of events.

“you’re not a journalist or a supporter so what would give you the right to ask a question?” And are you really saying that people who are not “journalists” or “supporters” of O’Donnell don’t have the “right” to ask her questions?

Then Evan, what would give YOU the right to ask Castle a question, or Carper or Biden?

It seems that the Tea Party and the 9/12 Patriot Movements are becoming what they claim to despise, elitists who shall not be questioned.

What a pity, those movements had potential.

EvanQ I’m not Keegan but I appreciate your black helicopter attitude. -irrational
Ok…whatever you say :) …(I’d point out that in the other thread…you seemed to play a different role but hey, Delaware’s actors are running low on work..I get it…play on playa!
– irrational
I don’t see where she has done any of that. Prove it. I’d submit that she has some “volunteer” staffers now so I’m not sure your “unpaid” theory holds water unless payment was promised…but bring the proof partner and we’ll talk.

I find it ironic that people like you and Frank speculate that Castle will avoid her, while she avoids questions about her past campaigns and campaign finances, and has former staffers thrown out of events. – irrational
Hmm she hosts those events herself. Just like Obama, it’s her right to stack the deck in those rooms. Why not approach at a neutral event? Or, since you are clearly NOT a journalist..why not ask her privately? And as I mentioned, she’s agreed to a debate with Castle but Mike Castle has not yet responded. Could be that his internet is slow or maybe one of Christine’s unpaid staffers hijacked the MAIL TRUCK! Yea..that’s it (black helicopters whirring)…maybe…maybe she’s got informants and stalkers following him and his staff around…wait..no, sorry my mistake that’s CASTLE doing that. He’s the one sending Wilmington Congressional office staffers out to follow Christine around and spy on her.

“you’re not a journalist or a supporter so what would give you the right to ask a question?” And are you really saying that people who are not “journalists” or “supporters” of O’Donnell don’t have the “right” to ask her questions?
Not at a campaign sponsored event intended for the media. No. And you can “print” that. At an open event, ask away friend..ask away.

Then Evan, what would give YOU the right to ask Castle a question, or Carper or Biden? -irrational
1.) *I* would do it in an open event OR personally at the campaign or congressional offices because *I* am not an attention hog asking “gotcha questions”. I want the damn truth and that’s all there is to it.
2.) I’m a spokesperson for a group of citizens who are concerned with the current state of the country. These citizens deserve answers just as surely as you do. I begrudge NOONE the opportunity to ask a question in the right setting. Where were you last weekend when she spoke openly at the Founders Values Candidate Introduction Night in Newark? It was posted EVERYWHERE including the NEWS JOURNAL and mentioned on WDEL..AND on this blog. You could have asked her there. Didn’t see you…must have missed you.

It seems that the Tea Party and the 9/12 Patriot Movements are becoming what they claim to despise, elitists who shall not be questioned. – irrational
Not sure how you get to this but you’re obviously reaching for any straw you can grab. The patriot movement is doing what it’s always done and that is advocating for principles. When those principles are broken, they hold the breaker accountable. No one is above questions but there is, as with everything, a process that must be followed.

What a pity, those movements had potential.
And still do, nothing you say or do can slow down, derail or stop the tremendous movement sweeping the nation and the state. And it’s party hack and progresives like you who are so upset, so scared and so angry that your political world is crashing down around you that you would stop at nothing to destroy everything to save yourself. It’s your selfish, egotistical elitism that will be your downfall and from a personal standpoint (removing the patriot hat)…. I have never been happier than to watch the DEGOP leadership, Mike Castle and his minions and the political elite quiver, shake and begin to cry over the momentum of this movement. To watch you shell game hacks fall on your faces makes me absolutely giddy and every time you wiggle you sink deeper into the quicksand of the public opinion.

It’s my sincere hope that you will all slip beneath the surface and allow the GOP in Delaware to be rebuilt with the will of the people behind it. Revitalized in it’s efforts and strong in it’s message which will resonate with the people and be distinct from the progressive agenda. I hold no illusions that you will go quietly and much fight remains but to see you all so desperate and upset shows me that we continue to gain footholds and the movement is succeeding.

    Keep squirming!

Evan, I DID “prove it” with that Community News article.

BTW please, keep using Obama as an example of why it’s OK for O’Donnell to cherry pick questions and throw people out of her events. It’s really worked for Obama lately, hasn’t it? I know that’s one of the reasons you like him so much.

And I’m not the one “squirming”. The one “squirming” is the one frantically attacking anyone who dares to question the elite queen O’Donnell, that would be you, Evan. You’ve attacked, me, Keegan, Bennett, and the state party.

But don’t worry, Evan, the truth will come out, it always does. And when it does I will forgive you for your nastiness today, and you can cry on my shoulder.

Right…the one that said the guy asked her two finance questions and had no intention of discussing policy? Gotcha..because that was ENLIGHTENING…thanks for playing.

Just using him as the STARK contrast…but every campaign does the same thing at their own events. All you have to do is show up at a 3rd party event. I’m sure Founders Values will invite her and Castle to another event…you should come.

And I’m not the one “squirming”. The one “squirming” is the one frantically attacking anyone who dares to question the elite queen O’Donnell, that would be you, Evan. You’ve attacked, me, Keegan, Bennett, and the state party.
You have no idea who I’ve attacked partner…and there’s more to come believe me. I can see it biting you too…because you know most of Delaware agrees with me. :)

But don’t worry, Evan, the truth will come out, it always does. And when it does I will forgive you for your nastiness today, and you can cry on my shoulder.
email me…queitschea@yahoo.com…and we’ll discuss things…and we’ll see you in November!

There is a lesson there. Take care of your people. Rule 2 of management. Rule 1, know what you intend to accomplish and how to get there.

What is interesting is that he failed her completely. The campaign completely imploded until she brought in a new manager in September when it was too late to raise money. I don’t know what assistant campaign manager would not raise any significant money then expect to get paid. That is not how the business works. Most contracts are contingent upon fundraising for the campaign.

He failed his candidate and now he is intent on smearing her. People like that disgust me. He can go away and slither back under his rock and stay away from here. Loyalty and honor are values that you know not Keegan. Stick to the issues. Expose real issues if you have them. But this type of language that you put up on facebook (now deleted) shows your true agenda. “Couldn’t say too much on the radio today. We had to avoid several topics. I will try again later. Her attorney called Rick Jensen at WDEL about 10 mins. before broadcast. He thought you were there at the studio, too. Did you sign a non-disclosure statement? Christine is obviously worried that the truth will be told. And “loony” is much kinder than my terms for her.”

You are threatening to reveal inside information in a way that violates your word and trashes a voluntary non-disclosure agreement. Give me one reason that you should have any credibility.
