Obama to Slash Defense
Aug 4th, 2010 by David Anderson
The administration is preparing a plan which will make us less prepared. Is this why they are hiding the threat assessment from China?
We are already shorting our military. We need more carrier groups not fewer in order to project power in remote areas and confront a building modern navy in the east. We need another division in the army. We need another brigade of Marines. We need to confront two sets of threats. There is the insurgent, indigenous threat and the traditional threat of nations like North Korea (PRK) rolling in somewhere. We need to be able to handle both.

You can cut defense spending without cutting defense readiness. Right now they aren’t doing that, we need more soldiers and Marines, yet the money keeps flowing to Air Force R&D projects. Damn Fly Boys.
Cut spending! Cut the size of gover —
oh wait, not THAT part of government, not THAT spending.
Airplanes cost a lot more than tanks and boats. But think where we’d be without air power.
I know where we’d be without all that HOT air too…
in a better position financially
We don’t need F-22 fighter jets, or weapons that quite frankly are going to produce a disproportional response. Nobody is going to get in an air superiority air race with the US, and it is time to stop pissing money down the drain. We should be researching cheaper more versatile alternatives. You would be amazed at the difference cheap ingenuity can make.
Can’t we get the Soviet Union back. I love arms races.
What we should ‘cut’ is our military presence around the world. Why do we need bases in Europe? Is Russia ready to invade? Why should the Europeans not spend their own money to defend themselves? Why do we have bases in Japan. If China wanted to invade, could we stop them? Would we try?
We spend billions ‘defending’ those who are quite capable of defending themselves. To them, we are their American suckers.
Close most foreign bases, and bring the troops home.
