I love that video. When you spend as much time speaking to the public as President Obama does you are bound to tell them the truth every now and then.

  2. on 21 Jul 2009 at 14:552Tennessee Walker

Obama seems to be learning from our own Joe.

  3. on 22 Jul 2009 at 08:513Perry

“…and efficiencies….” is what he said, and you know it, as you Repubs continue to grasp at straws instead of coming up with solutions to our healthcare shortfalls. It is all about his “Waterloo”, correct?

Or was it all about humor? :)

Regardless, we need to get this reform enacted, for the sake of most Americans, except the elite, who don’t need it, who seem to want it all for themselves, forget the rest of us hard working, struggling folks. This is one big reason why I could never be a Republican as the party has been constituted since Reagan and trickledown.

  4. on 22 Jul 2009 at 13:544h.

I don’t think 53% of America is “elite”.

  5. on 22 Jul 2009 at 14:325Perry

The elite I am talking about, h., are the wealthy power brokers in our nation who have virtually taken over our country, as has been the case for many, many years, way too long.

I see Obama as trying to change this direction, before we start to have riots in the streets, as this situation is unsustainable in the longer term without power being centered in our vast middle class.

Think of the Great Depression and before, when labor v management wars were in the streets and brutal. In my view, we are heading toward the same outcome. Hungry and cold people will act out for the sake of their families.

  6. on 22 Jul 2009 at 16:596Timothy Pancoast

Perry people are already starting to get agitated if you haven’t noticed the protests that have been occuring. Just because the ones protesting tend to lean conservative or libertarian doesn’t mean none of them are hungry and cold, jobless and poor. And it certainly doesn’t mean they aren’t ticked off.

The dispute now is the labor v management of the government, not the corporations. The direction President Obama wants to shift power is to the government. The government is not the middle class, rather it is increasingly becoming the ruling class. It is a shame that, in a sense, the electorate has to unionize to enter into collective barganing with the elected.

  7. on 22 Jul 2009 at 17:267Perry

Tennessee, my perception is that Obama is trying to shift the power away from the elites to the middle class. Depowered elites can lead the government to be more responsive to the needs of the middle class.

Right now government is responsive to the elites via their lobbyists and their gifts to our legislators, Dems and Repubs alike.

This then has got to be our primary battle to restore order to our government, which will then minimizes disorder in the streets, provide a healthier economy, encourage more reluctance to wage war, reduce the military-industrial complex, and provide adequate healthcare for all.

I give the President the benefit of the doubt on intent, but the result of his proposals will just shift from one elite to another.

  9. on 22 Jul 2009 at 18:189Timothy Pancoast

Perry, I will admit that grand visions for the future will suffice and even excell on the campaign trail, but when it comes to actually enacting laws the details of what is in the legislation and what it will do to the nation become important. The legislation President Obama is trying to push does not match what he says his vision is, nor what you say your vision is, and it certainly does not match the vision of the people who are protesting it around the nation.

  10. on 22 Jul 2009 at 22:1410Perry

Timothy, the legislation is still a work in progress, as we learned from Obama this evening in his press conference.

  11. on 22 Jul 2009 at 22:5611Timothy Pancoast

Why have they been pushing for a vote before August when the legislation is so far from completion? Either there is a bill (H.R. 3200) and they are just working out some details, or they need to take the time to put a bill together. Then give the Representatives enough time to read and get a reasonable understanding of it.

If the bill is basically finnished then admit to what is in it, and let America vote it down. If it isn’t then Congress had better get to work on putting it together. Till then they need to slow down on the voting thing. The only thing I have had available to look at to see what is being debated is HR 3200, and in my opinion that bill can not accomplish the vision that the President has laid out. If that is old news then they need to lay out what the real plan is and stop scaring us with the Dingell sponsored legislation which is still the featured bill over at Thomas.loc.gov.

  12. on 23 Jul 2009 at 00:2912Tennessee Walker

“Timothy, the legislation is still a work in progress, as we learned from Obama this evening in his press conference.”

No one really knows what is in this bill including Obama but we are supposed to throw out our good judgement and trust the Messiah who is going to save the Middle class from the elites.

Perry I have to admit, if you really didn’t exist someone on this board would have to invent you.
