Not the “Party of No”, But the “Party of D’OH!”

May 13th, 2009 by RSmitty

All due apologies to Homer Simpson for tying his trademark quote into this equation.

There is going to be a special session of the RNC! Goodness! Major policy shift? Sudden change at the top? What is it? It’s gotta be good for an unscheduled, special session!

From politico:

…in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the “Democrat Socialist Party.”

now put up image of jaw shattering as it slams onto floor over the shock that we continue to not get what perception means in the world of reality

To throw a bone to Jason, at least get the spelling correct. When referring to the political party, it is indeed Democratic.

Then…there’s more from the Politico article:

When I asked if such a resolution would force RNC Chairman Michael Steele to use that label when talking about Democrats in all his speeches and press releases, the RNC member replied: “Who cares?”

Um…uh…shouldn’t YOU care? You pushed this special session into happening! Chairman Steele even requested that this be held to the normal meeting in July (look at the calendar, July is pretty close to today), but NOOOOOooOOOoOO, can’t have that! You crow, special session! special session! Squawk! Yet, you don’t care if he uses your special phrase that’s so important to call a special session (and probably waste money for overhead).

Oh man, I wish that were it. This started out to also call for an official resolution to reprimand Sens. Spector, Snowe and Collins. Since then, Spector departed (something that may also have been a factor, now that this has come to light) and an intervention by the State Chair of the PA GOP eventually led to the dropping of that aspect. Yet, the rebranding resolution remains and the special session will still be called. Pathetic.

On a wiser-heads-at-least-seem-to-be-present level (still from Politico):

…he (Steele) also said in a (rare) flash of insight that officially referring to them as the Democrat Socialist Party “will accomplish little than to give the media and our opponents the opportunity to mischaracterize Republicans.”

True, so very, very true.

Another wiser-head (and possible money-) quote (still Politico, but from the link within the first blockquote above):

“This was engineered by a bunch of people who ought to be involved in College Republicans, not the RNC,” complained a well-connected Republican sympathetic to Steele. “It’s not that they’re not well-intentioned, but it’s just juvenile.”

Oh, since image seems to matter NOT to this group of self-apparent untouchables, let’s close this D’OH post out with Politico’s closing:

As for Democrats, they didn’t exactly embrace the label, either.

“I’m going to pass on marketing advice from folks who hadn’t fully thought out the implications of using tea bags as a brand,” said Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan…

Image, people, image. It’s not necessarily the first priority, but it absolutely has to be on the list. Somehow, someone deleted it.

This is becoming extremely painful to watch. I can’t even imagine all the coverage the “special” (read: emergency! This can’t wait until July because it’s soooo important we must act immediately!) session will generate. Pathetic and embarrassing.

    Stupid, too! ;-)

I think it is time to cut off the Republican Party’s head. We don’t need leadership like that.

Everyone knows that the Democrat party is going socialist. The ones that care have been unable to stop it and the ones that don’t won’t change their minds due to a gimmick like this. This is at best a lame provocation on the RNC leadership’s part. We don’t need ineffectual people like that directing the party.

While I will give Steele some credit for being more level headed on this one he has been just as juvenile in other instances.

It ain’t liable if it is true. It isn’t stupid if it is true. I don’t see the value in this rush, but it does get people talking and saying why. When they do, they have to answer because the Democrats are engineering a government takeover of the economy sector by sector. That is a debate I am willing to have even if it has to start in a ham handed way.

Keep up the socialist talk, after all it worked so well for you last November. What’s the definition of insanity again…

There are better ways to get the point across. This is definately a misstep by the party leadership. We know that they are socialist , we can compare their policies to socialist governments of the past. We can demonstrate how those policies lead directly to the downfall of the USSR. But to call a double secret emergency meeting to make official what so many allready know seems redundant.
I would add to Daves list , how does this save a singal life ?

“It ain’t liable (libel) if it is true. It isn’t stupid if it is true.”
David, it is true that you are stupid!

I have been using the term ‘Socialist-Democrat Party’ (ask Perry), for years. What I find to be hilarious is how fast Socialists run from the label ‘Socialist.’ If the shoe fits, wear it.

“Hi, I’m a Socialist, and I enjoy being led around by that ring through my nose”
