This arrogance is SERIOUS. I am linking here a forum post from www.stayoutofmypocket.com (forum post linked in quote below) in which George Smiley basically refers to the South of the Canal as lacking a grasp of reality. Nowhere in this person’s letter was there any attempt to undermine the aptitude of Councilman Smiley’s constituents. That didn’t stop him from taking his shot at Councilman Bell’s or Councilman Power’s constituents, neither of whom could give a rats ass about you, except for your vote. This is a copy/paste of an email exchange, so the earliest email is at the bottom and the most recent at top. I removed all email address info, except for George Smiley and the rest of the County Council, who couldn’t give a rats ass about you, if you are from South of the Canal, like me. Whatever happened for the push of Appoquinimink County? Is it time to revisit that now? Don’t count on Bell or Powers, fellow MOT’ers, they WANT WFH! Care to guess why? Oh, before I forget, please don’t forget that Jea Street referred to us as racists, too and Penrose Hollins is determined to make it a reality down here.
Before the letter is posted, MOT-area, you need to understand this: COUNCILMEN BELL AND POWERS DO NOT REPRESENT YOU! THEY REPRESENT INTERESTS! THEY LIVE AMONG US, YET HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THE IMPACT OF THEIR PASSIVE-PRESENCE VOTE ON THIS ISSUE! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL!

Just in case you didn’t see my Letter to the Editor published in yesterday’s News Journal, and circulated via e-mail to all of Fairview Farm and surrounding communities as well as to the http://www.stayoutofmypocket.com website. You need to represent the interests of your constituents in these economic times.

There have been recent meetings concerning work-force housing that New Castle County Council is trying to shove in our backyards. It does nothing good for existing communities, except enable developers to get away with reduced permit fees and expedited land use review.
Currently 2,565 homes are planned as work-force housing. There are already 2,319 housing units listed in New Castle County in the target work force housing price range (not counting additional homes for sale by owner). Who will be purchasing this work-force housing in a steadily declining real estate market where it is becoming harder to obtain a mortgage?
In southern New Castle County, we don’t have sufficient roads, schools, sewer service, stormwater management, police and emergency services, and parks to accommodate 2,565 additional households. Taxpayer dollars will pay for all this new infrastructure.
Chris Coons, Paul Clark, George Smiley, John Cartier, Tim Sheldon, Jea Street, Dave Tackett and Bill Bell are up for election. If these officials support work-force housing, you can expect to see a huge increase in property taxes to cover the infrastructure needed.
