My thoughts on the Mt. Vernon Statement
Feb 18th, 2010 by David Anderson
I am proud to add my name to the Mount Vernon Statement. I invite anyone so inclined to do so. The statement is a great starting point of first principles. When you get the first principles right, the rest has a chance to succeed. The Mt. Vernon Statement unites conservatives at a time when there is pressure to fracture. It reminds us of the destination that we all share. This is why I see it as an important document.
If you are looking for a policy statement, it would fall woefully short. This is why I see it as a first step not a completed journey. Once we agree on our mission, then come the proposals to accomplish it. Americans are concerned about economic, national, cultural, and energy security. They are concerned about the constant slide away from the liberty that we cherish. Mount Vernon only really addresses the later specifically and the culture generally. For the movement to become a governing majority, it must address all of these issues.
Its first principles are great. The task which is left is to apply them.

Thanks for the link David!
