Minutemen Retire

Mar 30th, 2010 by David Anderson

The border watchdog group is dissolving. Volunteers are burning out and new ones are a little more unruly. The strategy has played its course. The recent murder of a friendly rancher and his dog by an alleged illegal who is now a fugitive hiding back in Mexico called for a reassessment. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps helped focus America on the issue of border security. They added to the political debate in a real way. I am glad that they had the humility and wisdom to know when the time has come to move forward.

The MCDC sent a message that hot heads need not apply. I hope others send a similar message.

    Well golly…

“I hope others send a similar message.”

At long last an admission (of sorts) that Republicans have been waaaaaaay over the line with thier voilent and hatefilled rhetoric.

I guess my work is done here.

Republicans? Who said General Betrayus, Kill Bush and bomb his house, Repubithugs are racists, Republithugs are bigots, Republicans are destroying America, Republicans hate America, they need to be rounded up and shot. Yeah, Republicans are the ones wth over heated rhetoric.

If you want to say it happens on both sides, I could meet you there. It is not a bad thing. It spurs thought and discussion. Over heated rhetoric serves to let off steam and raise the boiling point. Keeping it in lowers it.

Immigration turned out not to be a winning issue for Republicans so the RNC turned off the Bat-Signal.

  5. on 30 Mar 2010 at 15:045Timothy Pancoast

I think we will see more focus from conservatives on a different front of the immigration battle, the legislative one.

  6. on 30 Mar 2010 at 15:226David Anderson

The RNC was controlled by Bush and Martinez during the immigration debate. They had no control over the immigration battle and still do not. They have to go along with the people. The issue is pretty much already settled. Conservatives won the debate. As Tim said, the focus has returned to the legislative effort.

The RNC reacts to the donors and volunteers, it does not work the other way around. It is called a bottom up organiztion. We elect people at the most local of levels who then elect people from their midst to the next level then the state level then the national level. Both parties actually respond pretty well to their core groups.

I think they have you pegged as a visceral giver rather than a calculated giver.

David, don’t kid yourself with both sides doe it. All that antiBush stuff was not broadcast 24/7 by Limbaugh and Fox. The Obama is a communist destroying America is 24/7 on the major conservative media. No major media ever did that to Bush. What major radio TV personalities nicknamed Bush the Messiah Chosen One? None. Which major media outlet day after day accused Bush of socialism when he purchased banks insurance companies GM. This is new. I never got three disgusting emails every week. You people are out of control. Don’t make it sound like everybody does it. You conservatives are doing it. If Obama was a white Republican his policies would be just fine. Obama first black and Pelosi first woman are the perfect targets for the closet racists and woman haters. Deep down that’s what it means when they say I want my country back. Back as in white men.

  9. on 30 Mar 2010 at 19:049Timothy Pancoast

anon, you’ve got some hate and bitterness in you. I guess it is better to be upset at your neighbors than at your President for how divisive the political climate is.

I have always had at least 3 disgusting emails every week, but then again that is why I also have a spam filter. It is a handy tool, unless of course you want to be disgusted and angry.

    From the link;

U.S. Customs and Border Protection “does not endorse or support any private group or organization from taking matters into their own hands, as it could have disastrous personal and public safety consequences,” CBP spokesman Steven Cribby said. “CBP appreciates the efforts of concerned citizens as they act as our eyes and ears, but it is important that they leave the enforcement to us.”

What ‘enforcement?’ The feds can’t even perform the most basic of governmental functions- secure the nation’s borders.

If the feds can’t (or, won’t), the people who live there will. Mexican invaders should be shot on sight.

70% of all babies born in Los Angeles have illegal alien mothers. This is what the radical group La Raza has in mind…the Reconquista …of lands taken in the Mexican War, through pure population exponents, i.e., one Mexican mother having six babies in the U.S.

We have a government that is, obviously, unfit for governing. A nation that cannot even secure its borders is doomed.

  12. on 31 Mar 2010 at 11:4112David Anderson

“Mexican invaders should be shot on sight. ” For what, the high crime of seeking a better life? We are the ones that opened the borders. I don’t blame them for using them. I have no blame or anger toward the workers and families who get tired of wading through years of red tape when they can wade through the river in short order. The problem is the U. S. government not the guy at the border.

They are not invaders seeking to conquer us or oppress us. They are immigrants who enrich us.

The problem is that no nation can have open borders. The same border that allows a family to walk across also allows criminals and terrorists to walk across. We have to be able to screen people.

I will also grant you that LA is one of the largest Spanish speaking enclaves in the world for better or for ill. I also grant you that La Raza supports open borders for the reason that you state. I disagree that it is a motivation for the people coming in. Most haven’t even heard of La Raza.

I think we can have a sensible immigration policy without treating immigrants worse than we treat abortionists, child molesters, terrorists, and rapists. We don’t even shoot Taliban on sight if they through their weapons down on the battle field and walk away.

Take a deep breath and push reset.

  13. on 01 Apr 2010 at 07:5313Rick

“Mexican invaders should be shot on sight. ” For what, the high crime of seeking a better life?

No- for illegally invading the United States and sucking us dry. Do you have any idea what the economic burden is (schools, medical care, prisons), particularly in the West?

Out of curiosity, any lifelong residents of Georgetown here? What is your take?

Try crossing the German border illegally.

We have nearly a 20% actual unemployment rate- so, let’s let more illegals in, right?

    Brilliant.

  14. on 01 Apr 2010 at 08:0014David Anderson

Yes, do you know what the economic benefit is? 20 million new consumers, lower prices for food, more tax revenue for social security, lower crime rates, and a hard working flexible work force. Crime rates among illegals is actually lower than that of natives.

They are not invading. We left the door open and put up a welcome sign. There is no need to shoot them just take down the sign and close the door. We have enough. I get it. (Washington may not, but that is another subject.) I just think that you are blaming the wrong people. The problem is not immigration, it is the mismanagement of it.
