Mass. Senate Raced Now Competitive
Jan 7th, 2010 by Tennessee Walker
The home of the original whacko liberal Democrat, Massachusetts, now has a competitive Senate race to fulfill the term of Ted Kennedy. The ultimate guide to the political junky, Cook’s Political Report, has shifted the Special Election Race from solidly Democrat to Leans Democrat. The link I am providing is not to Charlie Cook’s magnificent magazine. That would take a $300 subscription (I guess I need to talk to Dave about that.) But the link does quote Jennifer Duffy of Cook’s organization.
In rabidly liberal Massachusetts, Scott Brown has closed to within 9 points of Martha Coakley in this race. Initially he began 25 points down. I have talked with Bay State Republicans, (Yes all four of them) and they are cautiously optimistic.
I am disappointed that more resources from our national party were not dispatched to Massachusetts. I know it was a long shot but it was the only election happenning. Many of us made phone calls into Va. and N.J. and the same could happen for Mass.
The special election date is January 19th. Let us know if you want to help. The Massachusetts Republican party does need bodies and help. This is the time to send a message.

The NRSC has loads of money, they ought to invest some. The RNC spent most of its wad in the off year victories and has to raise more.
Agreed Dave,
and the National Money has stayed out of this race because it is Massachusetts and Massachusetts liberals have proven over the years they are idiots.
That being said this is becoming a competitive race. A serious Get OUt the Vote effort could win this race.
Imagine the fall out!!!
Agreed, it is time to go for broke. Even if we lose the race, coming close would make Democrat donors who are not ideological (like business groups trying to buy them off) think twice. If we won, they would start running way nationwide like the proverbial rats on a sinking ship.
As a side-note; as a boy, I used to spend my summers in Western Mass.(Westfield)- my family has been there since before 1700. I also went to school there (Williamstown) and later lived there (Northampton). There are numerous conservatives, particularly in the west, but they are overwhelmed by Boston and the suburbs; just like Sussex County’s influence is diminished by New Castle’s population. In other words, not everybody in Mass is a rabid leftist.
Rick, I have met Republicans from Mass. and they are great. The times I think of the problems here I think of the perserverance of the folks in the bluest of bluest states.
It makes me sick to think that the people whose intrepid ancestors traversed the rivers, cleared the forests, fought the Indians and built the industry in Western Mass are now politically dominated by a bunch of pathetic leftists in Boston like the late Kennedy, Ketchup-Kerry, et. al.
