Markell’s Fear Mongering
Mar 8th, 2010 by David Anderson
Governor Markell has issued a letter opposing HB 357 the right of law abiding citizens to maintain firearms in public housing. The more law abiding citizens have access to fire arms, the safer society is. Is Switzerland a crime capitol? Did right to carry make 33 states more dangerous?
I support the right of people to be safe in when they travel on DART buses or go to a park. A person who is being stalked for instance, does not give up their right to be safe because they choose to take a bus to work or can’t afford a nice house. I urge the governor to reconsider his position.

Is Switzerland a crime capitol?
No. Does Switzerland have ghettos, gangs, major drug organizations, public housing projects and a pop-culture of violence, rape and murder?
True, Switzerland is an armed nation, but that’s not why they’re safe. They are safe because they are a civilized people; we are not. Take a ride through Anacostia in Washington, or South Philly, or most parts of any major city, and see for yourself.
Of course, that’s all the more reason for the law-abiding citizen to be armed- the natural right to survive.
If you go through Anacostia make it a fast ride.
There should be no laws restricting the right to bear arms on any law abiding citizen.

“….the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
What part of that do Socialist-Democrats not understand?
Markell’s letter was deceitful as it is; his points about guns on DART buses and on college campuses were thrown in as distractions. He knows that the point of HB 357 is to overturn public housing authorities’ gun bans, and purposely clouded the issue by bringing preschools and day-care centers into the mix.
It is not the Governor’s role to badmouth bipartisan legislation, sponsored by more than two dozen lawmakers, before the legislature has had a chance to consider it.
I disagree. He has a duty to express his view. I just wish it would be an informed one.
