KEEP VELDA!!! She Gets YOUR Money

It appears that the measly salary that one gets as State Treasurer isn’t enough for a liberal Wilmington Democrat. Velda Jones-Potter is collecting significant bucks from a $150/hour consulting job from the City of Wilmington in addition to being State Treasurer. It seems that perenially cash strapped Wilmington is getting its usual liberal dose of “It’s the Government’s Money!!!!! Hand it over Sap!!!”
Keep in mind Wilmington has been the recepient of State and Federal largesse for years (that would be the rest of the State’s money) and still comes up short when needing things like police officers, firefighters and the like. Workers in Wilmington also get to pay 3 types of Income tax with a City Wage tax on top of Delaware and Federal Income taxes.
You gotta love it when liberals get long term unfettered control of a Government body. That is the case in Wilmington where Democrats have run this show for decades.
Now Potter-Jones has said that she was completely open and above board in revealing her second job. This despite the fact that Governor Jack Markell says that he knew nothing about the job when he appinted her in January 2009 and just learned about it this week.
Potter-Jones also said that her primary opponent leaked news of this contract although I don’t know how anyone can leak something that Potter-Jones said she made public.
It gets a little confusing because Potter-Jones’ husband is on the Wilmington City Council that approves the City Budget. Velda’s husband voted for the budget.
At any rate the story rekindles the memories of the good Old Jim Sills’ administration where liberal Democrat cronies stole from the city and white workers were fired for being white. (and then winning huge amounts of cash in subsequent law suits.)
It seems that the Wilmington folks like Velda so much because ” the program helped the employees’ self-esteem and led to some advancing their careers in city government.”
Well for $150/ hour, I am sure Wilmington tax payers are just tickled that Vekda is able to help with self esteem.

I guess I should know that you can document Jason’s inanities better than me but, I thought I just had to have my say.
If she earned (and I use that term loosely) $42,250 this year, as the paper reports, at $150/hour, that equates to 281 hours of work, and, at 40 hours/week, that equates to, drum roll please,… 7 weeks of work.
Now, last time I checked, the State Treasurer’s job is supposed to be full time. Can someone tell me how she found time to do 7 weeks of work while also working full time? Talk about creative accounting!

Hey a lot of people have two jobs Stossel fan. What I wonder is what hours did she work on the city job since I presume it was during normal business hours. I am interested in double billing for the same time. Is the job of treasurer a no show job part of the time? She has question to answer in a serious fashion.
By the way, if she leaves her 105K a year, 8.5 hour a week job, let me know. I am good a raising people’s self esteem. Then again, I am not the spouse of a powerful council member. That is something left out of the story. Was there influence in getting the job? Between KWS and VJP, we have quite a crew running the state row offices.
Yeah, a lot of ppl do have two jobs. However, most ppl, when GIVEN a high-ranking job at the state-level would disclose the second job. Particularly when said second job is also tax-payer funded.
I find it impossible to believe that Gov. Markell had no idea about her other job when he appointed her to State Treasurer.
