Pelosi’s husband received 100K from his wife’s PAC. His take increased 4 fold when he became treasurer. Ironically, Pelosi said she favored banning spouses from receiving money from candidate organizations, maybe she was trying to save herself money. Will Democrats criticize O’Donnell with a straight face for legal reimbursements? Yes, but the rest of us don’t have to take them seriously. She needs to make job 2 hiring a professional treasurer ASAP, but let’s not drink the Kool Aid being sold in some circles. Biden had a staffer (who was the son of a powerful state senator) actually steal from a campaign that paid him. Will they criticize someone who has operated legally? How do you miss 400K? After the campaign, everyone relaxes for a few weeks and thieves take advantage, apparently it is not all that rare. Which is why a campaign needs checks and balances, when money is in it just like any other organization.
Delaware Grapevine cataloged it for recent years: U.S. Sens. Daniel Inouye, a Hawaii Democrat, and Elizabeth Dole, a North Carolina Republican, each lost about $100,000 in inside jobs, Roll Call said. Other campaigns reporting they were hit were: U.S. Rep. John Boehner, an Ohio Republican, for roughly $400,000; and U.S. Rep. Sam Farr and former Rep. Gary Condit, both California Democrats, more than $35,000 each.
Let it be known that I think that campaigns have a responsibility to their donors to be run with transparency and integrity. I understand that the reporting requirements are tough when you have a volunteer operation and give some leeway. When you have a professional operation paying hundreds of thousands in salary though, you should be able to hire a couple of solid professionals to look after the millions coming in. If Democrats can’t do that, how dare they criticize someone who lost a treasurer and was late filing reports, but did so accurately and with more detail than required?
It looks like another case of the beam and the molt to me.
