“It was 20 Years AGO today”

“It was 20 years ago today.
That Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.
Now, they have been going in and out of style.
But, They’re guaranteed to raise a smile.”
OOPS!! Wrong decade, wrong date, wrong world history event!
It was 20 years ago today that People who had a first hand taste of Socialism/Communism threw off the shackles of their enslavement and tore down the Berlin Wall.
The Berlin Wall was and is the ultimate symbol of how Socialist/Communist dictatorships must in the end imprison entire nations and peoples in order to maintain their grip on power. Bear in mind the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain were built not to keep their borders safe and secure. These twin towers of leftist totalitarianism were erected to keep their captive native populations within in the borders of these countries.
The euphoria of that night watching people of all stripes literally chip away at the ultimate symbol of leftist oppression, has been since then replaced with the realization that we are not all going to live happily ever after.
New challenges to liberty and freedom continue to raise their heads. Those who seek power over others do not sleep. To stay a free people we in this nation must remain ever vigilant. We all need to realize that we will not be excused from fighting to maintain liberty and freedom in our daily lives. This anniversary should be remembered as the culmination of daily sacrifices and risks of enslaved peoples striving for freedom and the inspiration provided by those fortunate enough to live in liberty gave to the imprisoned.
The end of the enslavement marked on this day was the result of the hard work and vigilance of many unsung and untold of heroes in Central Europe. They include leaders such as Lech Walesa but are certainly not limited to them.
The towering giants of the West, Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, will increasingly be revealed as the necessary and essential components of supplying the backbone to the West. That Western Backbone (unlike the weak kneed appeasement of the likes of Jimmy Carter) gave the Eastern European heroes the tangible and intangible support that helped end communist statist tyranny in Eastern Europe. (By the way we did give material support to European dissidents)
The other towering giant was Pope John Paul II. He used the financial backing and moral authority of the Catholic Church to undermine the Communists first in Poland and later throughout Eastern Europe. He worked closely with Reagan and Thatcher. History will regard him as the most influential Pope of the last 3 centuries.
We should certainly celebrate and enjoy the lessons of this day in history. It should also serve as a reminder that liberty and freedom are always at risk and only our efforts can enable us to continue giving this gift to future generations.

Sorry folks I wanted this published tomorrow and still can’t figure out how to get the delayed posting thing done correctly . I guess I need to reread Dave’s instructions. This was for 11-9.
Freedom’s fight is as fresh as today. It is important to remember victories so we do not get discouraged. We shall win because we have to win both for ourselves and posterity.
The Iron Curtain came down only to be replaced by a rainbow-hued knuckle-duster, as our cultural commissars pulverise all forbidden attitudes in order to reshape western society into a post-democratic, post-Christian, post-moral universe. Lenin would have smiled.
