Will America join the Civilized world and pass a ban on late term abortion after 20 weeks? It is ethically mandated that one provide anesthesia when operating to protect the preborn child from pain, yet it is perfectly acceptable to torture him or her for a couple of days then kill it. Delaware”s General Assembly voted last year to go backwards. It is worse than troubling. A society which sanctions violence against the most innocent should not be surprised when it reaps an attitude of violence on its streets. The protection of life begins with a culture of life. We need to value people, not for what they give us, but we need to value them because they are people. There is an inherent dignity to humanity given by our creator. That is why our Constitution says equal protection of the law exists and no person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law. Whether you are a man, woman or child, an ethnic majority or minority, handicap or not, or whether rich or poor, you have the right to protect your life, liberty or property unless you deprive another of the same. That principle is the bedrock to a civil society. It is worth defending.
