It has got to be the water
Jun 12th, 2009 by David Anderson
Some times I wonder what is wrong with Washington. Both sides seem to be affected. I thought it was the dirty air coming from the capitol power plant, but we fixed that problem. I am starting to lean toward the water.
President Obama calls for fiscal responsibility and pay as you go while the very bill he supports exempts all of his new spending proposals–even the ones not yet passed.
On the Republican side, former Bush Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove said that his administration has zero responsibility for the current situation and deficits. I didn’t say isn’t to blame for most. I said zero responsibility.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that she agrees with Republicans that releasing the additional criminal trial photos of detainee abuse would endanger our troops. Then she orders the amendment which would classify them dropped in conference. Afterwards she orders a moment of silence for fallen troops. Why, she didn’t care 5 minutes before.
In other news the Easter Bunny has called for a commission to study the problem of egg poaching.

It all started when Article I., Section 8., was abandoned. Amendment
XIVXVI exacerbated the problem. Either government is limited, or it isn’t; if it isn’t, then it will expand its scope and influence, indefinitely.Sorry, I meant Amendment XVI (income tax).
Note from David: Took care of it, buddy.

I don’t know why you keep seizing on this. During the campaign Obama very clearly promised he was not going to let the economic downturn deter us from investing in the priorities required to restore prosperity.
Weren’t you listening?
You can quibble about whether he has chosen the right priorities – but he is not being inconsistent.
And by the way, he won.
It must be raining where noman is. I gave him and Perry a chance to criticize Karl Rove and they didn’t take it. (so far)
I am not criticizing the President for his spend thrift polices. I am criticizing him for pretending he is the heir to fiscal discipline. Maybe he is; GWB’s heir that is.
I, of course, have to be intellectually consistent enough to say that while Mr. Rove was reasonable defending the challenges (war, 9/11, natural disasters) of Mr. Bush had and the fact that he cut the deficit in half in his second term as promised in his campaign until the Democrats took over in 2007. He went off the diving board into the deep end, out of the poll, over the beach, and into the lake when he fantasized that his administration has nothing to do with the deficits.
I would have trouble taking myself seriously if I let that one go. I thought if he had a day to think it over, he would issue a clarification. I guess he is serious. No wonder the budget was so out of whack.
“…investing in the priorities required to restore prosperity.”
Yeah, like GM…..or actually, the UAW.
