Is Michele Rollins Defending Her Right ? While Running From Her Left

Aug 12th, 2010 by Frank Knotts

In an earlier post I put forth the supposition that Michele Rollins may have backed out of her scheduled speaking slot at the Sussex County GOP meeting on Monday the 9th. A slot that had been scheduled for at least a month, and which no notification was made of the change until early Monday morning, by an e-mail blast.

I have checked the Rollins calendar for that date and find it ambiguous at best. The Sussex meeting was actually scheduled for 12:00am. I have reached out to the Rollins campaign for clarification. I am still waiting.

The question I am asking is, while Michele Rollins is locked in a primary fight of her own, which recent polling shows her down by seven points, with a candidate that is seen as being more conservative. Is she defending her right from Glen Urquhart, by running from her left, Mike Castle?

Lets face it, Mike Castle is not someone,  a candidate like Michele Rollins would want to get attached to right now. When she is battling Urquhart on issues over how best to right the listing ship that is our economy, would she really want to be seen with a man who has voted for cap-and-trade, cash for clunkers, and most recently, he was one of only two Republicans to vote for what amounts to the second stimulus package.

This is the statement he released about that vote,

”In normal circumstances, individual states have the primary responsibility of maintaining a budget to meet the challenging economic times and I don’t believe that the federal government should be in the habit of closing these gaps. However, I supported this aid package to states at a time of economic hardship in order to preserve vital medical services to the neediest of Americans and prevent layoffs within our education community.  The bill was less than ideal but remained in line with rules to offset the cost of the aid so that American taxpayers are protected from an increase in the federal deficit.”

WOW! Arlen Spector himself couldn’t  have written a better jewel of moderate waffling. He attempts to have it both ways, as all so-called moderates do, he says he is against it , while voting for it.

Can anyone blame Mrs. Rollins, if she is running from such statements as this? And if I am wrong, maybe someone should tell her that she should be.

Is Mike Castle the Pres. Obama of Delaware? Are candidates afraid to cling to his paper-thin coat tails?

As for myself, I will take a long hard look at any candidate who endorses, or is endorsed by Mike Castle. If you lie down with dogs, you will most likely catch their fleas.

Rollins is in panic mode- expect mistakes. Now is the time for Urquhart to finish her off.

Frank, another day, another anti-Rollins or anti-Castle post, it’s nice to know some things are predictable. As to you latest conspiracy theory, the simple fact is that if you look at the Rollins calendar you’ll see there are often multiple events on the same day and the campaign obviously can’t make it to each and every event. One might legitimately question the wisdom of that approach, but it is what it is.

As to running from Castle, I suspect that Rollins will win the primary in large part due to Castle simply because of this: the Castle organization will run a huge get-out-the-vote effort for the primary, and most folks who vote for Castle will probably vote for Rollins as well. Going into the general election, of course, when more than just the far right wing of Republicans in Sussex County is voting, Castle should win fairly handily, and makes for a much better top of the ticket than O’Possum. Even Glen (if he were to win the primary) will want to be seen with Castle for the General Election, but his “nazi gaffe” will cost him points, as well as his status as a real estate developer.

Finally, one thing people are missing with the so-called “second stimulus” package is that it was paid for with offsetting cuts to other programs and so was revenue neutral (remember, Castle did vote against the first stimulus, which was pure deficit spending). You may prefer the other spending that was cut, but I think it hard to call this a “stimulus,” when it clearly wasn’t designed to be.

  3. on 13 Aug 2010 at 12:433Rick

It’s hard to call any of it ‘stimulus,’ since it stimulated nothing but unemployment.

SF, another day another pass for the party endorsed candidate, so predictable. You also say,”As to running from Castle, I suspect that Rollins will win the primary in large part due to Castle simply because of this: the Castle organization will run a huge get-out-the-vote effort for the primary, and most folks who vote for Castle will probably vote for Rollins as well.” Well my friend her possible benefitting from the get out the vote, is not the samething as being in the same room with him , and it is also not the samething as being associated with him. Could be if they shared the stage, the same people who might or might not vote for both, might choose to not vote for either.
In your liberal world you see Mike Castle’s voting record as some sort of plus, those of us who live and work in the real world, see it slightly different.
As for this latest stimulus package that Mr. Castle voted for, well really, all it will stimulate is the government labor unions and teacher unions. And are we to believe that, out of all of the Republicans in the U.S.House of Representatives, that only these same two liberals, were the only two to “GET IT”. REALLY? This package was ment for nothing, but to buy off unions and to get votes for the Democrats. Both of which it would seem that Mike Castle supports. Maybe this is his first move in his “Arlen Spector ” play. Curry favor with the unions at all cost, so that when he becomes the next Arlen Spector, they will already owe him something.

Rollins is a developer also, take a look at the disaster called the Brandywine Town Center. Rollins did a great bait and switch.

Maybe Rollins was in Jamaica and could not make the meeting. Or she was minding the small businesses her and John built according to her radio ads.

    She is a total joke.
