If the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
Dec 1st, 2009 by David Anderson
Saint Paul asked that question 1950 years ago and it is still relevant. Is the administration looking to win victory or placate critics? Is the ruling regime looking for a way to get home or a way to protect home?
If the security of the world is at stake, why do we need to rush to draw down in 18 months? Why are there restrictions on our troops defending themselves and civilians? I can not understand how this speech was worth 3 months of waiting. I will give the President credit for standing up to the left of his party. The fact that we are sending more troops is good only if they can do their job and not be a greater number to serve as targets. He seems to have sent a message of uncertainty when he spoke about the economy and the need to focus on home. He mentioned human rights on one hand, but then said it was not our responsibility to help them establish stable institutions which will protect those rights.
We have to send a message that the radicals will not be ignored while they train, build the bombs, and gather real and counterfiet money to launch operations around the globe unmolested. We have to tie them down then defeat them as a viable organized force where they are. If we do not then it would be like trying to clear a house of roachs while protecting the nests from being sprayed.
We need to kill the roaches at the nests. Afghanistan is one of the nests. If it is not controlled, nuke armed Pakistan risks becoming one. If that happens, all of the border security that we can muster will not matter. They will only need to be successful once with a balloon sending parts to a cell which collects them across the border then assembles and explodes a dirty bomb or far worse.
We need to understand that we are not just in a war, but a generational struggle for the dignity and liberty of humanity.
I still support the President in this matter and will pray for his wisdom and trust my prayers are answered. I was hoping this speech would give the plurality of the people more company. I was hoping the President would rally the nation to the cause of liberty and security; I did not see it happen. If the trumpet gives an uncertain sound….
