I have been mostly absent

Aug 21st, 2010 by David Anderson

I apologize to readers for being mostly an absent landlord.  I am grateful to my friends for stepping in and doing a great job.  I have had some recent technical issues.  My DSL was down and finally got repaired, even worse my laptop, which is under warranty, failed and had to be shipped off so I could not use alternative methods effectively.  In that time, I have been terribly busy.

I have accepted a full time paid position with the Urquhart campaign.  It is the same job, I am just paid now.  It became obvious that we needed to end the search for another person to join the communications team as press secretary and I needed to bite the bullet and focus full time on the campaign.  It has been a great ride and it is only getting better. I felt like Dick Cheney when he headed the search committee for GWB’s VP.  There is a point where you have to humble yourself and accept that the best person available may be the one not taking the job.  The result of that is a change in coverage.  I will still put out interesting releases and reserve the right for commentary, but I refer interesting developments that need reporting in anyway to others.    Such development  by me could tip the hand of the campaign and interfere with media coverage.    I received my first consultant check yesterday.

I just wanted you to know what is going on.   All is still well.   Some people wonder if I will alter my opinions or if the statements that I make are official positions.  I have addressed this issue before, but to be clear, when something is labeled official, it is.   When it is not, it is not.   I have somewhere in the neighborhood of  3000 written positions.  I have nearly 1500 here.  I have hundreds with the Delaware State News with guest opinions and letters.  I used to be a contributer to the issue of the week feature they ran years back.  I wrote half of the First State Volunteer and was political editor for Christian Lifestyles Delaware in the 1990′s.  I have hundreds more with Newszap website,  I am a national blog contributor and contributed  or ran other blogs.  I do not even know how many letters I wrote to the Dover Post.  I have been a leading advocate of conservatism in the state of Delaware for two decades.  I have been writing since I was in high school in the eighties.   The idea that I could change my positions is laughable.   My positions have always been my own.  The fact that a candidate agrees with my philosophy does not mean they sign on to every opinion that I have expressed.  There are a few that I no longer agree with.  If you want to know what a candidate thinks, you have to inquire of the candidate.  When I operate in that mode, it is not about me.  Sometimes that can be challenging for a guy used to complete independence.  That is the main reason I did not want to be the main spokesperson, but would rather shape the message behind the scenes.  The fact turned out to be that I was good at both and the good of the campaign demanded stability in communications.  Changing people this close to the primary and hopefully general election was a bad idea.  I had to agree with campaign.  I am happy with the choice.  I am sure the hard core critics will enjoy poking fun of my change of mind.  I accept that.  The fact is that I am dedicated to winning this race because I honestly believe Glen Urquhart is the best shot Delaware has at sending a constitutional conservative to Congress.   He is competent, intelligent, and truly cares about the average person.  This is the struggle of a lifetime and I am blessed to have the opportunity to be on the front lines.  I can not shirk my responsibility to do my part to win it.

    David,

Congratulations on your paid position with the Urquhart campaign. With all due respect, cherish those checks, because in 25 days they will probably cease. I agree Urquhart is a decent man, but I don’t agree he has the best chance to beat Carney. Glen has run a good campaign and it will be closer than I anticipated, but Michele is turning it on now and the undecided Repubs will begin moving her way. Rollins by 10 points is now my prediction on primary day. Castle by 20 points in the Senate race.

  2. on 21 Aug 2010 at 17:292David Anderson

Fair enough, I doubt either one will win by 10 points. Both candidates have strenghts and loyalists who will turnout. If I were a betting man, I think I would wager on that spread for both races.

Michele Rollins is turning it on? She can’t even film a television commercial in 1080 resolution for God’s sake. I have a fifty two inch TV and I need to bust my 11 inch Celestron telescope out to see the picture! Geez!

  4. on 21 Aug 2010 at 21:224The Heiress

Who believes Jud Bennett on anything? The guy is made for Lithium. This traitor supported Joan Deaver.

Rollins is laying it on thick with her building family businesses with John. yea right.

The woman did the bait and switch on Brandywine Towne Center and plays it like she gave all of us gold bullion.

  5. on 21 Aug 2010 at 22:145Concerned

David, congratulations on your appointment. Urquhart couldn’t have chosen a better man, and you picked the right candidate. I wish both of you all the success you deserve.

    Jud
Too bad they shut down the Milton Hot Air Balloon Festival. You could have earned much added income with all the useless hot air you blow.

  7. on 22 Aug 2010 at 06:137Frank Knotts

David good luck. I have witnessed you dedication to conservatism right here at Delaware Politics. I know you will bring that same dedication to the Urquhart campaign. I would make only one correction in your statement, you said,”Glen Urquhart is the best shot Delaware has at sending a constitutional conservative to Congress”, I would say that he is the best chance for the House of Representatives, as you know I believe that Christine O’Donnell is our best chance for the Senate. Wouldn’t that result,Urquhart in the House and O’Donnell in the Senate, send the “FANTASY POLITICS LEAGUE” into convulsions?
Some who support Michele Rollins do so hoping for support in return and nothing more, they use their limited influence in hopes of drawing attention to themselves, for whatever reason.

I am the fat guy who knows everything yet no one listens to me. I wish i could get a paycheck for my political expertise.
    Please???

..but Michele is turning it on now and the undecided Repubs will begin moving her way.

    That’s what you think.

I haven’t seen hide nor hair of her. For someone with unlimited money, she sure is invisible.

Of course Mouse ‘Nelson’* Castle will win.

    *Nelson Rockefeller

I do agree that she was turning it up. That is why we felt we needed to crank it up. I was surprised that her effort is less spectacular so far than I expected. I don’t expect it to remain so.

  11. on 22 Aug 2010 at 08:4411FVoshell

Congratulations, David. The Urquhart campaign could not have chosen a better man.

  12. on 22 Aug 2010 at 08:4512David Anderson

Believe me Frank, there is no disrespect to Christine in my remark. I support her. My personal opinion is that her road is a harder one though not an unwinnable one. It is easier to beat a newbie who has never run than a guy who has been in the system longer than I have been alive. Afterward, John Carney is stuck in the 40′s, he is beatable.
Coons likewise is beatable, but the Castle is tougher to scale. If she wins, it will prove that she truly is the most electable candidate. If not it will just prove that Mike Castle is an institution.

  13. on 23 Aug 2010 at 22:1213Paddy

I think that supporting Urquhart against Rollins is even more vital than supporting O’Donnell vs. Castle. At least we’ll probably only be stuck with Senator Castle for 1 term. If Rollins gets into the House, we could have another Castle on our hands for years to come. DE conservatives will get threatened every 2 years with losing the seat to a Dem if they don’t keep the incumbent around. Or maybe I’m just being cynical.

  14. on 24 Aug 2010 at 07:5414David Anderson

Agreed Paddy, worse, I don’t think she can win the general.
