How Important Is It ?
Jul 27th, 2010 by Frank Knotts
Okay, I have to admit that this is something that we all knew, but maybe hadn’t registered. Also I have to say that it was brought to my attention, I didn’t put it together on my own , but it is big. I must also give props to my fellow DP contributor Timothy Pancoast for getting the subject up first, here on Delaware Politics. Thanks Tim!
The upcoming GOP primary on Sept. 14 between Christine O’Donnell and Mike Castle has much larger implications than just who will run against the tax and spend Democrat Chris Coons, in the general election.
What we need to remember is that this Senate race is to fill the vacated seat of former Senator Joe Biden. That makes this a “SPECIAL ELECTION”, even though it is being held during the regular election cycle. This means that the winner in November will be seated right after the election in 2010 and not in 2011.
This is important because, if the GOP and conservatives make the gains in congress, that many expect them to, then we can anticipate a lame duck congress run by the Democrats pushing through the most radical agenda in America’s history.
What could stave off this lame duck agenda? Well certainly another conservative vote in the Senate would be a good thing.
That is why GOP voters who consider themselves conservatives, must come out on Sept. 14 to vote, in the GOP primary. And they must elect Christine O’Donnell as the GOP nominee to face the tax and spend Democrat Chris Coons. We cannot afford to send Mike Castle to the Senate, with his long history of voting with the Democrats, on such issues as cap-and-trade. We need a person like Christine O’Donnell who will oppose the liberal agenda of the Obama administration and the Democrats in congress. We certainly don’t need a Mike Castle who will only go to the Senate and vote for a carbon tax a second time, and any number of other liberal issues.
Delaware and its voters could change the direction of the nation. We here in The First State could send the single most important vote to the U.S. Senate, by voting for Christine O’Donnell. Her vote could be the one vote that offsets the votes of Scott Brown and Olympia Snow. And it all starts on Sept. 14, with the GOP primary.
One other thing to consider, I believe that the Vice President swears in the new Senators, how sweet would it be to watch Joe Biden swear in Christine O’Donnell to fill the seat he held for so long?

After thinking about this race all yesterday, I feel I need to tell you guys that O’Donnell has no shot whatsoever.
It is a numbers game and there are more Castle moderates in the Delaware Republican Party than there are O”Donnell crazies, by a factor of three to one.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I suggest you get used to the notion of working for Rollins and Castle this fall.
Let me take a moment to mention some other factoids.
Today, 7/27/10, the senate is due to vote on the so-called DISCLOSURE act, a law that legislatively over-rules the recent Supreme Court ruling by writing that companies and certain organizations must dance naked on a bed of nails with all political advertising.
Taking tongue out of cheek, it is a blatent assault on FreeSpeech. The lawmakers don’t expect it will make it through a SC challenge but they do want to muzzle conservatives during this upcoming election. Remember the very classy Obama openly chided Supreme Court justices during his SOTU speech about this bill? So Obamer got his minions to write a law that will so handstring companies and organizations….organizations like the Conservative Coalition in fact…from political advertising.
The monstrosity barely made it through the House with only ONE of 2 Republicans voting for it. Guess who?
Hint, it’s an elite building sometimes inhabited by royalty. What an appropriate name. MIKE CASTLE!!! Him and the Vietnamese guy! The Castle defenders such as young Jason above don’t offer any explanation as to why all the other Republicans in the House were wrong in voting against that thing save….MIKE CASTLE!
Well hey, Castle’s running this election cycle too and he sure wants to shut up his enemies, don’t he?
Do we want to trust Castle during that lame-duck session?
Also, we will effectively be giving Castle MORE power than he had in the House if we send this guy to the senate. In the House he was only one out of almost 500. He had to face the voters every two years. In the senate he will be one out of 100 and will only face the voters every SIX years.
Thank the Delaware GOP for doing this to us.
There’s a bunch who need to be thrown out. I don’t know how they can sleep at night.
Did they hold their nose for the Castle man who arrogantly voted for Cap and Trade despite not one Castle champion even bothering to offer any reasoning how that law is in any way good for Delaware?
This means that the winner in November will be seated right after the election in 2010 and not in 2011.
Actually, I think it’s up to the current majority leader, Harry Reid, when to seat a special-election Senator. However, the issue came-up in the Scott Brown election, and he was seated expeditiously.
I agree with ‘jason’ on O’Donnell, but I’m not so sure about Rollins.
Yeah, Rollins is an unknown in Delaware. What makes those arrogant GOP Blue Bloods thinks she’s a lock to win? And don’t tell me her husband was somebody eons ago….balderdahs.
As for Castle, he’ll be hard to beat.
O’Donnell’s up for endorsement by Palin as I understand it. If that happens all best should be off.
After all this is over I have every intention of fighting tooth and nail to overthrow every GOP entrenched in Sussex County.
Ron Sams…..gone.
I intend to put up Frank if possible, maybe even myself.
First, let’s overthrow those who so betrayed us.
The main thing is to get somebody elected who will be able to get all those young folks now included on their parents health insurance until age 26 kicked off again.
jason, thank you for your un-biased opinion. The fact that you would favor Castle speaks volumes. By the way I saw your post on some other lefty blog saying this would be your strategy. The momentum is building and the moderates and leftist are showing their fear.
Rick your eternal pessimism is off this time my friend. Some of us believe we can change things, and that we need not sit back and just say, ” its always been this way and always will be”. “Donkeys Live a long time”.
anon, not every young person is seeking to become a victim of the “STATE”. Some have the same dreams of success that their parents had. They also have enough self pride to want to achieve that success based on their own accomplishments and to not merely live a subsistance on the government ticket.
As for being on their parents health care until they are 26? The Obama plan is to have everyone on the government plan.
Frank, not sure what you are saying. I just meant letting young family members stay on the family policy until 26 is a good thing. Same as somebody with childhood cancer not being kicked off insurance. Far as I’m concerned that’s people power at work.
anon, whether it is a good thing or not is open for debate. Think of the employers and insurance companies that will be forced to continue this service. At 26 you would hope that the “CHILD”, would have a job and be insured on their own. At what age do we expect the “CHILD” to take on responsibility for themselves? We already can keep full time students on a parents policy, because the student is devoting their time to further education. But this allows
Sorry, The Obama plan allows all children to be on their parents plan. This is fine, the parents get to choose. But the burden ultimately falls on the insurers. This is another way that the Obama care will drive private insurers out of business.
This is why it is so important to elect Christine O’Donnell to the Senate, someone who will work to defund and repeal Obama care. And not a Mike Castle who thinks he can make it better. And certainly not a Chris Coons who would go along with it as is.The Sept. 14th GOP primary is the first step in changing so much that this Obama administration and those like Mike Castle in the GOP have done wrong.
The endorsements and major articles supporting Christine are starting to snowball out there. Here are a few from today:

If Castle lost the primary, he’d pull a Crist and run a 3rd-party campaign. At heart, he’s 100% weenie.
I just meant letting young family members stay on the family policy until 26 is a good thing…
Yeah…like a 12-year-old in Pampers.
Rick, brevity is the soul of wit my friend.
