UPDATE 2 (due to Jud’s email): He’s (or She’s or It’s) Baaaaaaaaaaaack!

May 21st, 2009 by RSmitty

UPDATE 2: See comment #9, Jud clarified here and his email network. Thanks Jud!
UPDATE: The Smitter (as Randy Nelson tagged me) is possibly being set up over this.

Some of you are recipients of Jud Bennett’s Coastal Network e-mail-blast distribution. Yesterday, I received one that said the cowardly and pathetic attacks by the sock-puppet postcard writer was my penmanship. If any of you recall how this all went down in 2007, you will easily remember where I was in this battle.

Things to note about Jud’s email:
-1) The subject header has “FW” in it, indicating someone sent it to Jud, rather than Jud doing a copy/paste himself.
-2) Parts of my post are missing, including the entire closing paragraph (which was replaced by “RSMITTY” making it appear as a signature), making it slightly altered.
-3) Regardless, if anyone reads just the first paragraph of this post, you should be able to realize that the “ripping GOP” part was not me, but a comment by someone else.
-4) IF someone did forward this to Jud in this altered state, then I probably have a right to know of who is attempting to fraudulently put blame on me for an utterly shameful and cowardly act, something we all dealt with two years ago.
-5) On point #4, along with a handful of others, I was very active in fighting this coward two years ago. While I do have harsh criticisms of this party and make them public, I do NOT, EVER take a dirty low-road like this about our local politicians, except for one man who has done everything to deserve it, both on a personal and political level. I do not do personal attacks (save the one malcontent) and with my history, I’d hope that should be realized by now.

I have requested a clarification be sent by Jud. While waiting, though, be aware that to the many who have sent me disparaging emails overnight, I hear you, but now take the time to read the entire post and then you decide who this cowardly bastard is.

Thank you.
=========================================================================
Remember the postcard follies? Ah, the fun that we had with that and the excuses that surrounded them, too. Well, it appears we may be headed in the next era of post-cardage, or sock-puppetry blog pounding in the least. Well, get ready delegates, I’m guessing all of our mailboxes will receive these cute mailers once more. The burning questions are: what color will the postcards be, and how many references to Burris’ gut?

Rescued from Delaware Liberal, I give you comment #22 from thread “GOP Recruitment of Castle Failing” (alias user name is in bold):

Time to move on // May 18, 2009 at 11:45 am

The sad reality is the GOP should not be wasting time on Castle. Castle should retire. The party will never move on with old ways and the same old people as the make believe leaders.

Proof was this past weekend as we suffered through a convention where Ross was reelected. A guy who was a failure as County Chair, a failure as Wilmington region Chair and now as state chair.

Cathy Murray was elected to vice chair. A person who has the number of coffee parties she has hosted on her resume. No clue and nothing to add.

Kate Fortsen was elected Secretary and she could not deliver a 3 minute speech without help. Totally uninspiring and nothing for the GOP plus her husband is Richard Forsten, a midget who calls himself Shark to act tough.

The saddest part is the love affair the GOP has with the old DuPont days evidenced in the constant thrusting of Charlie Copeland down our throats. How bad did Denn beat him? Face it now, any one else who got a beating like that would be driven out of town. Celia Cohen is back to prop Copeland up.

In the end only two Republicans have the statewide recognition to run in 2010, Copeland and Protack. One can’t win and the other the GOP elites don’t want to win.

No, I did not forget O’Donnell, her waist line is now bigger than her ego.

Welcome back from your slumber, oh routeriffic sock puppet!

Anyone who visits here based on Jud’s email, do know that he misinterpreted the heck out of this post. If you follow, you will see that I linked to a comment the sock puppet post carder left on Delaware Liberal. The psycho-babble dribble was not from me, but the sock puppet master that plagued many of us back in 2007. The nature of this post was to direct some sunshine into the dark corners of this fraudster.

  2. on 20 May 2009 at 22:402Homer

    Doh!

  3. on 21 May 2009 at 08:403noman

Now you know how Obama feels when he watches himself on FOX.

  4. on 21 May 2009 at 08:414LiberalGeek

Yeah, that comment at DL was certainly not from Smitty. I’m not even sure Smitty knows where the nearest Kinko’s is.

  5. on 21 May 2009 at 08:425RSmitty

Isn’t Kinkos that game on Price Is Right?

  6. on 21 May 2009 at 09:296Hube

Was someone in Smitty’s driveway using his wireless signal? ;-)

  7. on 21 May 2009 at 09:317Hube

Now you know how Obama feels when he watches himself on FOX.

As opposed to any Republican on MSNBC.

  8. on 21 May 2009 at 09:378Homer

Jud Bennett = Supporter of Mike Protack ???

Time to get off Jud’s email list. This is the lowest of the low.

  9. on 21 May 2009 at 09:459Judson Bennett

    FYI folks—Needed Correction and Clarification:

The Blog post I forwarded yesterday to the Coastal Network by “RSmitty” on certain GOP leaders, which was published on Delaware Politics.net, was his apparent attempt to bring to light the anonymous pink card attacker of last year. Forwarded material and the reading of the blog itself made it appear to me as if RSmitty was the author. That was not the case; although certainly not crystal clear, Smitty was simply quoting an anonymous blogger from the blog “Delaware Liberal” and his intent was to expose rather than malign. Sorry for the mix-up foks. Smitty is not the villian, but STINKY PINKY is still out there! :) :) :)

    Yours truly,
    JUDSON Bennett-Coastal Network

Gotta love Jud’s clarity of thought!

Jud - thanks for the clarification!

  11. on 21 May 2009 at 10:0811Judson Bennett

My pleasure RSmitty—Have a Great Day–God Bless America!

  12. on 21 May 2009 at 10:3112MariaEvans

Whoever forwarded this to Jud was obviously attempting to negatively affect Smitty’s relationship within the state party. Or to put it more bluntly, IT WAS A SMEAR JOB, and, may I add, a blatant distortion and lie.

I would hope that Jud would swiftly deposit this “Forwarder’s” future e-mails directly into the cyber trash where they, and their author, belong.

  13. on 21 May 2009 at 10:5713Perry

Maria is right, and I’m glad Jud straightened this out.

Based on his history, I would not be surprised if Protack were the culprit.

  14. on 21 May 2009 at 11:0414Perry

“As opposed to any Republican on MSNBC.”

MSNBC, in general, gives a far better shake to the Repubs than Fox does to the Dems, in my view.

PS: Interesting how Hannity has chickened out of his waterboarding commitment, even when offered a reward of $1000 a second, a chickenhawk chickenshit of a creep, for sure!!!

  15. on 21 May 2009 at 11:1115Hube

MSNBC, in general, gives a far better shake to the Repubs than Fox does to the Dems, in my view.

In what parallel reality does this occur?

  16. on 21 May 2009 at 11:1616RSmitty

Maria is right, and I’m glad Jud straightened this out.
Based on his history, I would not be surprised if Protack were the culprit.

I am doing my best to even this out in my head and not jump on board with that … yet. There’s also another possibility of something where I am an enticing candidate for something. These are the couple of plays in my head and I am working them out (only one involves him, though).

  17. on 21 May 2009 at 11:3817kavips

gee, what’s the big deal. It sounds like something I could have written for it is very close to the truth.

  18. on 21 May 2009 at 12:0818david anderson

It is actually funny and I disagree with it. I didn’t have much of a problem (just disagreement) except for the personal attack against C. O. The rest was just someone’s opinion which actually is as valid as any other. The insight has a measure of truth with 10 measures of cynicism coated with humor.

Still K, if it were advertised under my name, I would be upset because it isn’t my opinion. Putting words in someone’s mouth is unsanitary. :) I would be objecting to the mischaracterization of ownership and intent if I were in Smitty’s position. It would be like telling someone not to paint your house bright green and when they do and your neighbors ask them why, the person said that you insisted over his objections. The Green paint may not be the worst thing in the world, but don’t put the ownership on me.

  19. on 21 May 2009 at 12:3919RSmitty

    Uh…thanks David???

I didn’t have much of a problem (just disagreement) except for the personal attack against C. O. The rest was just someone’s opinion which actually is as valid as any other.

Careful, though, you just inadvertantly (at least I hope it was inadvertant) condoned this person calling Richard Forsten a midget. I wouldn’t classify that as an opinion, would you?

  20. on 21 May 2009 at 13:1320David Anderson

I agree that as well was gratuitous. Is the man even a public figure. Why toss that in? The general tone is as I said cynicism.

  21. on 21 May 2009 at 13:2321David Anderson

Whether or not Charlie Copeland is a winner or Mike Castle is the past or Mike Protack gets a fair shake, or whether or not a party secretary had help with her speech is all open to analysis. Some of it borders on the old turf, some is expressing legitimate anxiety about the future of the party, and other parts seem irrelevant and unimportant. Over all irrelevant and unimportant is how I saw the comment. I am surprised that it is getting so much attention.

I guess there is some pathetic value to the politics of insult. Apparently it works.

Thank you for reminding me about the quip regarding Mr. Forsten. It was so petty and irrelevant that I forgot it until I reread it after the post. It was a mean spirited statement which added nothing to the commentary. I completely reject. It does raise a larger question of why do some people insist on attacking bystanders? If we can’t focus on issues with a deep recession and war, when are we?

  22. on 21 May 2009 at 18:0522Art Downs

..Cathy Murray was elected to vice chair. A person who has the number of coffee parties she has hosted on her resume. No clue and nothing to add…

She does a lot more than host parties. She is ubiquitous at almost every event and I have seen her pounding the pavement more than once. I cannot remember when she failed to attend and RD committee meeting.

How many ‘mouse potatoes’ are regular attendees at RD and County meetings? How many host fundraisers at their homes? How many regularly knock on doors?

  23. on 21 May 2009 at 19:0023David Anderson

Very true, but she did talk about coffees hence the satirical takeoff. Apparently, it is a great thing to be able to skewer people in anonymity. I can’t believe that it gets so much play.

  24. on 21 May 2009 at 23:1924Art Downs

Apparently, it is a great thing to be able to skewer people in anonymity. Notes Dave

Perhaps this is the electronic analog to anonymous notes on bathroom walls. Note how few op ed pieces are unsigned. Not everyone with an attitude has the courage of their convictions.

  25. on 22 May 2009 at 00:0225David Anderson

Compared to the stuff said about you and I at DL, it seems quite tame, Art. Maybe I shouldn’t use that standard, but I have had a lot worse said about me in a political context. I agree with you that these skewers are not serious dialog.

That is why I enjoyed the Cheney vs. Obama duel. That was a real dialog about the security of America even though they weren’t in the same building. We could use more of that.

  26. on 22 May 2009 at 09:4526X-Files

    RSmitty,
If, as you observe, Jud was forwarding an email that he received; and, if as you observe, whoever forwarded the email to Jud altered your posting (to make it appear as though you posted the original disparaging comments), then Jud needs to come clean and tell us who forwarded him the altered email. WHO WAS IT JUD?

  27. on 22 May 2009 at 10:1527RSmitty

    (my thought cloud:)
oh please let “X-Files” be Gillian Anderson and not David Duchovny, oh PLEASE….

  28. on 23 May 2009 at 07:1328Judson Bennett

    X-Files,
Be advised, that I always take full responsibility for anything I say or forward on the Coastal Network. I’ve already cleared up the misunderstanding for RSmitty’s benefit. I don’t need to do anything else nor do I intend to. That’s the end of it from my perspective.

    Judson Bennett-Coastal Network

  29. on 23 May 2009 at 08:5429RSmitty

I’m still hoping that X-Files was Gillian Anderson and not David Duchovny.

  30. on 23 May 2009 at 10:2930Gillian

Sorry Jud, but your explanation doesn’t cut it. If you forwarded an email that you received from someone else and that email had been edited, then shame on you for not checking the original source. But, more importantly, you should tell everyone who forwarded you the email, full of spite towards the rest of the rest of party that, as RSmitty observes, and as you concede, is connected with whomever sent out the pink postcards. If you find the postcards as offensive as you claim, then you ought to pass along any information which might be helpful.

  31. on 23 May 2009 at 13:1531Judson Bennett

Again, I don’t answer to anybody. I checked the original post–it was confusing and appeared to me as if Smitty wrote it. It was my mistake, regardless of who forwarded what–I take responsibility for it, because that is the way I interpreted Smitty’s post also. Words like “I need to, I ought to–”–I don’t really care. That’s my last word on the issue, but talk it up until you all melt.

Actually, it was Gillian that sent it to me, no it was X-Files, no it actually was Dave Burris, no I mean Maria Evans–The real truth is– it was Homer!
