Happy Mother’s Day
May 9th, 2010 by David Anderson
Give honor to whom honor is due. Most of us will do so today by honoring one of our parents. We do not honor our parents because they were perfect. We honor them because they were imperfect people in a wild world who tried their best to give us the best. They showed us love before we could do anything for them. Since today is Mother’s Day let’s focus on Mom.
I love Mother’s Day because I love my mother, Dolores Anderson. She is a person of dignity, but also of humility. Mother’s day is one of the few days in which she will not try to deflect well deserved praise. My mother is one of the most honorable, truthful, kind, thoughtful of other’s need’s, and diligent people that I have ever met. She exemplifies traditional values. She is devoted to GOD. She loves her family. She loves America.
She grew up in a segregated world in Smyrna Delaware. She was a freshman in the first high school class to be integrated under court order. Her father was one of the leaders of the petition drive integrate the local school instead of forcing them to bused to Dover. She understands that world changes. She is optimistic about America’s future despite dips and reversals in the short run.
Politically speaking, my mother is a constitutional conservative, pro-life Republican whose political hero is Ronald Reagan. There were only two pictures in they house not of friends and family, Our Lord Jesus Christ and President Ronald Reagan. She in fact still has Good ol’ Ronnie up. It is no surprise that I am a political conservative. For as long as I remember, I was taught that GOD is my source, not man. We depend upon GOD not government for success. It is GOD who gives us blessings of Life, liberty, and joy.
My mother understood that we are GOD’s hand’s to reach out to a hurting world. She has spent countless hours reaching out to the hurting, the destitute, and those most in need of grace. She is in my mind a modern saint and many who know her would not disagree.
I am sure most of you have great things to say about your mother. Mother make the world function. I am sure my mother is not the only wonderful woman. This is not a competition, but a forum to honor the every day greatness among us. I would love to read about them. Leave your own tribute. Here I may edit a collection later to night in a comment rescue.
