Governor Markell Holds Roundtable With “Delaware Bloggers” Leaves Out A Few

Mar 31st, 2009 by MariaEvans

Governor Jack Markell held a “roundtable” in Newark this morning with “Delaware Bloggers.” Strangely missing from the “roundtable” were bloggers from Sussex County, the majority all of Kent County, and any blogger anywhere in Delaware that even slightly smacked of conservatism.

For the record, I am the toothless one in front, getting my back scratched. I realize many will think that, so I just wanted to stop the speculation as soon as possible.

  2. on 31 Mar 2009 at 13:382Hube

That’s true, Dave. But ONLY Garrett and Matthews I have faith in (out of those that were invited). Oh wait — I think I saw Mat Marshall there. Him too. Everyone else is the freakin’ “Amen Corner” — despite the fact that Markell was an integral part of the state gov. the last 8 years and bears a lot of responsibility for the crisis we face now.

Just imagine the DLers’ comments today if all conservative bloggers were invited to a pow-wow with, say, a President Cheney this morning (to borrow an analogy I used at DE Libertarian).

I wonder why Markell feels the need to associate w/those who regularly refer to the opposition as “insane” and “evil,” not to mention having wished actual death upon same?

  3. on 31 Mar 2009 at 15:043Kilroy

I am heartbroken, I gave up my post as GOP 19th RD Chair and put my friendship with Burris on ice to support Markell. If it weren’t for me he wouldn’t have been elected. LOL

Anyhow was all news to me! But I can say this; his support for consolidating school district is a fool’s journey because it would require equalization of school taxes among the districts being merged and somebody’s taxes will go higher. Not going to happen!

If he wants to reform public schools why not with an executive order ordering full financial transparency of public schools “and” DOE? He holds the Ace in the hold but won’t play it.

Rep. Levelle introduced legislation like Copeland did call for online check ledger for our school districts. Apparently the Delaware School Board Association is lining up to oppose it calling it too expensive! Bull crap, you or I can go online to our bank and pull up a monthly statement and download to a file. School district’s have online accesses to their financial and can easily do this and file would be view only.

    Cake walk, check Michigan out!

Yea, I supported him but I didn’t promise to be a yes man.
But I must say, I am happy in the middle.

Dana Garrett is the varsity of Delaware bloggers? Oh, geez. You’re kidding, right? The guy doesn’t even admit error when he’s flat-out wrong. You have to pull his teeth to admit he’s made a simple mistake. Take away other blogs and the Mother Jones-y chatter, and he’s got about one original, occasionally worthwhile, post a week.

  5. on 31 Mar 2009 at 19:085Nona

I think what Burris means is that any blogger roundtable that doesn’t start with Matthews, Garrett, Burris & Scott is not that which it claims to be.

  6. on 31 Mar 2009 at 20:516fish out of water

Now you all know the neo liberals believe they are the “only” real bloggers in Delaware! Every other blogger is an evil doer! If “they” don’t like your take on an issue, their attack dogs are out in unison, they have nuttin on Karl Rove.
Maria dont worry about those fools! Jack, “thinks” he needs these people, he doesnt know they just “talk” to and among themselves.

  7. on 31 Mar 2009 at 21:257Mocking Markell

rich sheltered elitists like markell always surround themselves with brown nosed yes monkeys

this guy is looking more and more like minner every day

  8. on 31 Mar 2009 at 22:308Nona

You have to tip your hat to Maria though. Markell’s people wanted to get a message out through the blogs and all you people are talking about is whether or not certain people should have been invited or judging how much of a whiner Maria is. She’s a smart cookie. Took Markel’s message right out of it.

  9. on 01 Apr 2009 at 00:549David Anderson

The irony is that we have given him fair coverage. I guess he only reads left of center blogs.

  10. on 01 Apr 2009 at 06:4710Dominique

I’m a little stunned at the whining. I totally expect it from the left; it’s a little disappointing to see it coming from the right.

  11. on 01 Apr 2009 at 08:1611RSmitty

It was intended to be just the first. I can’t say there’s been a great impression made over the past 24 hours, though, to encourage participation.

I honestly thought it was a little funny to begin with (literally, not sarcastic), but it’s evolved into a life of it’s own and is a bit disappointing. I hope this levels off with the expectation (yes…EXPECTATION) that there will be more to come, it just might not be immediate.

  12. on 01 Apr 2009 at 08:4212David Anderson

I didn’t sense a whining tone. She just rationally stated a fact.

  13. on 01 Apr 2009 at 12:2313donviti

I would have never have guessed that this would have been the reaction from you guys and gals.

It’s good to know you all are capable of taking the high road

  14. on 01 Apr 2009 at 12:3014Elwood Blues

Can’t imagine why they would be offended when a mental midget like donviti gets an invite to interview the Governor but no regular poster from this blog gets one. No idea why that would upset them. None.

  15. on 01 Apr 2009 at 12:4215pandora

Wrong, Elwood, RSmitty attended which means this blog was represented.

  16. on 01 Apr 2009 at 13:1016donviti

who is the mental midget now dippy

  17. on 01 Apr 2009 at 13:2317Elwood Blues

I don’t think anyone would call RSmitty a regular poster to this blog.

  18. on 01 Apr 2009 at 13:2418Elwood Blues

“who is the mental midget now dippy”

The good Lord himself couldn’t change that fact, dirtbag.

  19. on 01 Apr 2009 at 13:2919pandora

Who’s anyone? And why wouldn’t they consider Smitty a regular poster? Come on, Elwood, spit it out, say what you really mean.

Smitty has been part of DP for a long time (not that that should even matter), and while I don’t know the exact history, it seems he was here before a lot of other contributors – Dave, correct me if I’m wrong (just try not to enjoy it too much!)

  20. on 01 Apr 2009 at 13:3720jaywalking

Everyone knows Smitty, he’s the blogger who left the republican party because he said they sucked so much. No surprise that he made the guest list.

  21. on 01 Apr 2009 at 14:4321Tim J

If this were kindergarten…… I’d say it’s naptime.

  22. on 01 Apr 2009 at 15:1422RSmitty

Know what? Eff it. I want this to play out. The last thing I want to do is stifle someone else.

    Next!

You know what…cut this now. I am not your effing pawn for your pity party. I am a poster here and a commenter, despite what you claim and posture upon. No, I am not some pure-conservative, not at all. Quite frankly, I am a Progressive-REPUBLICAN whose interests are pretty solid in wanting the state and the populace to be better. If that means I would have to work with (perceived) opposition, then so be it. It’s not about elevating me, but elevating the whole.

To paraphrase McNabb…”Get me out of your mouth,” especially if you have no idea what went down yesterday other than your imagination.

To the anonys…your continued free-reign use of me in connection with your outrage puts me right in the bulls-eye of your crosshairs, if you even give a damn (starting to think you don’t), but I give a damn. I’m not your damn pawn!

  23. on 01 Apr 2009 at 16:3323pandora

I want this to play out as well. Keep kicking people out, guys. You do know that when people speak of small, intimate parties being the best that they aren’t referring to “political” parties? Just checking.

  24. on 01 Apr 2009 at 17:1224pandora

Not you, Dave, but others seem to think he’s failed the litmus test. Now, be honest, my point is not a leap. Smitty is a Republican with Delaware Politics credentials. Implying otherwise is an insult – see comments #19 and 22.

If these commenters have a problem with Smitty they need to spit it out, own it. If not… then they should stop the cheap attacks.

Shorter Pandora: Man up or shut up.

screw the popcorn, I got twizzlers and whoppers!

  26. on 02 Apr 2009 at 13:0926Perry

Dave, have you put your name into Markell’s office for his next blogger conference?

If not, you have no gripe, nor Maria either unless she has her name in. She has not yet said so.

Dave: “I understand why they didn’t do so.”

    Why is that, Dave?

This get-together was all NCC. Let’s ask for more, including KC and SC.
