Ginger Gibson Needs A Hobby

Jul 28th, 2010 by Frank Knotts

Ginger Gibson is at it again. She has written an article about the recent endorsement of the Christine O’Donnell campaign by The TEA Party Express.

In the article , of course she focuses on the former member of the TEA Party Express that made racially charged remarks. Ms. Gibson gives little attention to the fact that the endorsement will be a gain for the O’Donnell  campaign. She barely mentions the fact, that the person is no longer a member of the TPE.

She points out that the NAACP condemned the TPE as a racist organization. But failed to mention that the NAACP’s record of calling an organization or a person a racist is questionable, since the NAACP also called former U.S. Department of Agriculture employee, Shirley Sherrod, a racist for statements she made many years ago. The NAACP later had to retract the statement after the full context of Mrs. Sherrod’s statements were revealed. The NAACP also failed to call the acts of voter intimidation by members of the New Black Panthers, racist . So for Ms. Gibson to use the NAACP as some sort of measuring stick of who is or isn’t a racist, shows that she is over reaching.

It is clear that Ms. Gibson has given up any claim to objective journalism. She was removed from the press corps of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, for smear tactics.

She was also the so-called reporter who was behind the hit piece on Ms. O’Donnell early on in the campaign. She is clearly a puppet of the Castle campaign. Many thought at the time of the earlier piece, that the Castle campaign was behind the release of the story. Now  Ms. Gibson has shown her one-sided approach of covering this most important race for the GOP primary to be held on Sept. 14th.

Before someone points out my bias for Ms. O’Donnell’s campaign, let me say, I never claim to be a journalist, and I don’t cloak my opinion in the guise of objectivity.

Ms. Gibson would have us believe that she is merely covering a story, with no personal opinion involved at all. This is clearly not the case. Ms. Gibson is the worst kind of liberal, the kind that tries to convince you that they are anything but a liberal.

I would say to Ms. Gibson, either come out of the liberal Castle closet, or get a hobby. But stop putting out the Castle trash and selling it as news.

    Truth hurts doesn’t it Frank?

Any piece disagreeing with Christine is a “hit piece” according to you. It is getting redundant and ridiculous. Those smear tactics you complained about…. MAKE UP YOUR ENTIRE CAMPAIGN FRANK! The entire O’Donnell website is a hack(and wack?) job attack on Castle. The bottom line is that the TEA Party Express made national headlines for blatantly racist remarks, it happened. I don’t like the NAACP because I don’t think they’ve done their job in making advancements for Black Americans and instead of come off as whining instead of taking an active practical approach, but spare me that them condemning this has anything to do with whether or not those remarks were racist. They were.

Ginger Gibson is only about two years out of college. She’s writing whatever pap News-Journal editors Merritt Wallick and Greg Burton tell her to write. Give her a bit of a break and focus your anger on those two.

  3. on 28 Jul 2010 at 22:233Michael P. Borgia

Anon, that’s not unlikely. But journalism is supposed to be an ethics driven profession. If Gibson is being forced to put her name on something she does not believe, or knows to be untrue, she should resign. Gibson believes the drivel that appears under her byline.

And she has a history, having been driven out of the press pool for Bobby Jindal’s 2007 gubernatorial campaign for exactly this kind of garbage. Gibson claims it did not happen, she was not with her college paper at the time because she was graduated, but the Jindal campaign made it clear in no uncertain terms that she was made to leave.

    I know who I believe.

  4. on 28 Jul 2010 at 22:324anon

Michael – You misunderstand my point. Sure, she believes it, because that’s what she’s told to believe. She has no deep background in Delaware politics, no institutional knowledge of the players and people. She’s a good, dogged reporter with lots of enthusiasm and energy, but she’s also the perfect vessel for editors who want to manipulate the news. The ideal story for them would be one that simultaneously praised Markell, bashed Minner, lauded Castle and undercut O’Donnell.

  5. on 28 Jul 2010 at 22:445David Anderson

Remember Ginger and JL (Tim’s publication of the letter), my contributors’ views are their own.

  6. on 28 Jul 2010 at 23:126Tennessee Walker

I believe that the News Journal clearly leans to the left and in most instances does not have either reporters or staff that can understand or articulate Conservative Positions.
However, After having read Ginger Gibson’s piece I am not sure what more she could have done to write a balanced presentation. Gibson repeatedly quotes O’Donnell’s official statements and website. This is the best Gibson could do since O’Donnell did not make herself available for comment. This is a break Gibson gave to O’Donnell that is not typically given to any other candidate.
O’Donnell’s official statement conflates the endorsement of the Tea Party Express with the entire Tea Party Movement. Ms. Gibson was correct to explain the difference and to point out that the Tea Party Express (and not the entire Movement) had a member that wrote an unbelievably dumb and disturbing piece that brought universal criticism to the author of the letter. Sadly Mark Williams has been featured as a leader of the Tea Party Movement on cable shows and his actions have brought disrepute to an entire movement. David Anderson of this blog has condemned him. All the events about the Tea Party Express occurred within the last 2 weeks. To not include that controversy would have been journalistic malpractice.

Gibson mentions fundraising which is a legitimate topic when covering a race. In addition she quotes Tom Ross which is also legitimate. If anyone has a problem with what Ross said then attack him. Talking to the Chairman of the party that Christine is trying to earn the nomination of is part of Gibson’s job.

Here is what we said about the Tea Party Express:

For full disclosure, I have removed from comment #1 several letters and asterisk. Sorry George if this causes your point to be lost, but I think you can make it without the offensive language.
It would also seem as if George C has missed the point of the article, so let me illuminate it for him and others. Ginger Gibson is a liberal hack. She claims to be a journalist, but clearly is working for one side. If anyone can bring me an article that she has written about Mike Castle that seems half as critical, I am open for discussion.
GeorgeC I do not claim to be a journalist, I certainly never claim to be un-biased when it comes to the Delaware GOP primary being held on Sept.14th. Everyone who reads my post know exactly where I stand. Ms. Gibson attempts(poorly I might add) to cloak her opinion in objectivity. If she wishes to editorialize then be clear that she is doing an opinion piece.
As for the things on the O’Donnel web site being a “hack and wack job”, well I guess if Mr. Castles voting record is a hack and wack job then that is true.Talk about the truth hurting.
anon post #4 says, “she believes it, because that’s what she’s told to believe”, well then the future of journalism is safe in the hands of people like Ginger Gibson, who have such high minded standards and ethics.
As for the statements of Tom Ross, well one has to wonder how much he pays to have the slit up the back of his suit jackets made, so that Mike Castle can reach in and make Mr. Ross’ mouth move. There is only one person running the GOP in Delaware at this time and that is Mike Castle.

  8. on 29 Jul 2010 at 05:208anontoo

“As for the statements of Tom Ross, well one has to wonder how much he pays to have the slit up the back of his suit jackets made, so that Mike Castle can reach in and make Mr. Ross’ mouth move.”

You’re so sensitive to any criticism of your candidate, and you use words like “smear” and “hit piece,” yet you have no problem saying nasty things like that about people.

Let me clue you in. Once the Kool Aid passes through your system, you’ll see one thing: Tom Ross is 100% right. You can get as upset as you want, but he’s right. And Gibson’s article is accurate, too. You proudly accept an endorsement and the media will tell people who it is that endorsed you. Especially when they were recently in the news for extreme racism. And when that extremist group has a history of putting money into races, money will come up.

If Gibson really had a sneaky liberal agenda, she’d undercut Castle and promote O’Donnell so that she’d win the primary and get crushed by Coons.

  9. on 29 Jul 2010 at 05:389Frank Knotts

anontoo, I see you also miss the point. Ms. Gibson paints herself as objective, while she is anything but. I put myself out there as exactly who I am. You attempt to deflect away from Ms. Gibson by attacking me.
And your final statement,”If Gibson really had a sneaky liberal agenda, she’d undercut Castle and promote O’Donnell so that she’d win the primary and get crushed by Coons.” That is if you assume that Ginger Gibson and the Democrats for that matter, actually prefer Coons over Castle, I’m not sure they do. I think that is exactly why they chose Coons to run against Castle instead of their big dog Biden.

    TW
Not only does the NewsJournal lean to the left but they are in competition with The New York Times for becoming the “Most Liberal Rag on Record.” Much of what they print could be considered as “Pure Propaganda.”
My days writing for newspapers has been over for a while. The left wing rhetoric in any newsroom owned by Gannett Communications is unbelievable. They are not capable of writing an unbiased article and usually laugh about screwing the conservative view when talking with one another during and after work.
If they hire a reporter that is even marginally conservative, they will quickly reassign them unimportant tasks until the person quits.
I know this for a fact because I wrote for Gannett Communications newspapers.

  11. on 29 Jul 2010 at 08:3911Rick

But journalism is supposed to be an ethics driven profession.

‘Journalism’ is supposed to be objective and informative.

Today, it’s generally agitprop; that’s what is taught at ‘journalism’ schools.

Under the Marxist template, everything is political; even salt consumption.

  12. on 29 Jul 2010 at 09:4412Windjammer

    Rick
Ethics were highly taught when I majored in English with a concentration in journalism at the U of D but I found as a practicing journalist that ethics were practiced according to ones political views. Virtually all journalists that write for major daily newspapers are very liberal. That means that their view of ethics is promoting what the believe to be correct.
Most of them are nice enough if you can stomach their politics but if a journalist attempts to write something unbiased within the political arena. They will assign that reporter to non-political issues.

  13. on 29 Jul 2010 at 10:0713Stossel-Fan

What a ridiculous post. This blog repeatedly features nasty, mean-spirited, and often misleading statements about Mike Castle, Tom Ross and others in the party, but even suggest that the sainted Christine O’Donnell has a hair out of place and you’re a hack, a liberal, biased and much worse. UNbelievable.

The fact is that the News-Journal story was entirely correct to point out that Tea Party Express was kicked out of the national organization for racist remarks. Why anybody thought that the endorsement of that group would only be a positive thing is beyond me.

And, if the O’Donnell fans here think that media coverage has been tough to date, just imagine what happens when Coons starts spending his war chest attacking her if, God forbid, Christine were the candidate. She has more skeletons than a cemetary, and they’re all gonna come out. It’s the dog days of summer and the general public knows very little about Christine, and is paying very little attention to the election right now. The more the public finds out about her, the less it’s gonna like.

  14. on 29 Jul 2010 at 10:4314David Anderson

The stuff you and Ross think is bad, actually is makes her more sympathetic in the general. We need someone who has had to struggle and overcome it.

O’Donnell and for that matter Urquhart both have struggled in there lives. He built a business from nothing sometimes going without a paycheck in order to keep the business going. He made it big earning every dollar from the seeds of sacrifice. In this economy, he had to be smart and his low debt strategy kept him ahead of the down turn even though projects were canceled and land values that he held dropped. His business accumen has allowed him to triumph in tough times. It is good practice for his next job in D.C.

She like a lot of people had to sell her home in this economy because of changes in income and the value of the home had fallen. She gets it.

These guys get it. Do any of their opponents?

  15. on 29 Jul 2010 at 10:5315anon

Does anyone know why O’Donnell apparently isn’t talking to Delaware’s only statewide newspaper these days? Is she still pissed off about the article that documented her financial issues?

Got a new slogan for you. Christine O’Donnell: Less forthhcoming than Rose Izzo.

  16. on 29 Jul 2010 at 11:0416anontoo

“We need someone who has had to struggle and overcome it.”

Glen Urquhart had to struggle and overcome it, and it looks like he paid his bills. Why can’t Christine?

  17. on 29 Jul 2010 at 11:0517anontoo

“She like a lot of people had to sell her home in this economy because of changes in income and the value of the home had fallen. She gets it.”

Because she CHOSE TO RUN FOR OFFICE instead of GETTING A JOB. No sympathy will be forthcoming.

As for Ginger, I am hiding out on this one. Ginger has always treated me well and is a faithful reader of this blog. Thanks to Frank, I will have to make sure to were a hat and sunglasses at the fair today. :) See you there Ms. Gibson and remember throw stuff at the red haired guy not me. LOL

Tea Party Express created their own problems. You have to know the media will not let them live it down. It is up to independent voices like you and I to point out that Williams stepped down before the endorsement was accepted. I am a little disappointed that the O’Donnell camp did not send a simple email saying of course we don’t agree with Mark Williams but he no longer heads the organization so his views are irrelevant to us and the millions of Americans who want limited government and unlimited freedom. That is what I would have put out for the Urquhart campaign. They slipped up on that one because they don’t like Ginger Gibson after what they regarded as a hit piece. She was assigned a story and reported it. Business is business. You have to move on. Personal feelings can not get in the way of returning a simple statement for a question anyone in the political world knew was coming.

Considering the history between them, the article was actually pretty professional.

That doesn’t stop you from clarifying the issues though. Keep that up, but do you and Tim have to mention these guys by name? Why personalize it? You gave me a grey hair. Never mind do as you feel is best. I will just buy hair dye for my birthday today.

    anon asked,
“Does anyone know why O’Donnell apparently isn’t talking to Delaware’s only statewide newspaper these days? ”
A better question is does anyone know why Mike Castle isn’t debating Christine O’Donnell ? You Castle supporters want Ms. O’Donnell to debate with the News Journal, but give cap and trade Mike Castle a free pass. Again I ask, someone bring to my attention an article by Ms. Gibson, or even in the News Journal for that matter, that is critical of Mike Castle.
Also demand of your candidate that he have the guts to allow the GOP voters of the state of Delaware to hear a face to face debate between the two GOP candidates in the GOP primary. But no, he will continue to hide like the chicken he is and allow his goon squad at the News Journal do his dirty work. Let him ask the question about the TEA Party Express. How do you think that would go over with the members here in Delaware?
Miike Castle is a coward hiding behind Ginger Gibsons skirt.

  23. on 29 Jul 2010 at 23:3023GeorgeC

What does Castle have to gain by debating somebody whose entire campaign is a massive hatchet job? As long as Christine continues to act like a fringe candidate she is going to get treated like one. Your posts are pretty much a referendum on that Frank.

  24. on 30 Jul 2010 at 07:2124Rick

Castle’s a coward who’s afraid of being publicly undressed by O’Donnell. Obviously, he has no confidence in his positions.

  25. on 30 Jul 2010 at 09:2725Apo Whichiapi

well then Rick – why don’t you run for office in your plaid plush shirt and brushed denims??

you could be “the man of the people?”"

    oh wait -let’s re-think that whole thing…

  26. on 30 Jul 2010 at 09:5826Rick

“…well then Rick – why don’t you run for office in your plaid plush shirt and brushed denims??

‘Plaid plush shirt?’ ‘Brushed denims?’ If only you knew how ridiculous you sound; obviously, you have never seen me in person.

  27. on 30 Jul 2010 at 12:3627Tennessee Walker

Rick, I think AW is referring to another statewide candidate who early in the campaign had this attire along with a sports coat.
I welcome the facetious and sarcastic on here as it makes people think (and respond).

Carry on with the arguments, insults and passion that we are known for.

  28. on 30 Jul 2010 at 13:1128Rick

Rick, I think AW is referring to another statewide candidate who early in the campaign had this attire along with a sports coat.

    No, he was referring to me;

“…well then Rick – why don’t you run for office in your plaid plush shirt and brushed denims??

    He’s clueless.

  29. on 31 Jul 2010 at 05:3329Frank Knotts

    GeorgeC says,
“What does Castle have to gain by debating somebody whose entire campaign is a massive hatchet job”, well first George my friend, do you mean pointing out his voting record and all the special interest money he receives, when you say hatchet job?
But when you ask what does Castle have to gain by debating, George that says it all about Mike Castle, his campaign and his supporters. They are in it for what they can to gain. The debate is not about what Mr. Castle can gain, it is about allowing the voters to gain from hearing the candidates verbalize their positions for themselves, instead of allowing the likes of a Ginger Gibson to reach out of her spider hole at the News Journal and spit her venom .
But I guess it would be a little difficult for Mr. Castle to come down on two sides of the same issue at a debate. Actually it might be a good idea to have the New Castle, Mike Castle to debate the Sussex Mike Castle, since he tends to say different things depending on his location.
