Get Well Art

Oct 14th, 2009 by David Anderson

Art Downs had a heart attack today. Let our best wishes and prayers be with Art Downs tonight.

Art Downs is a local Kent County Republican who blogs for Common Sense Political Thought and frequently graces us with his comments here. We will look forward to the return of his wit and sense of history. If any one wishes to leave an encouraging comment, we will collect them and email them to him so he can read them during his recovery later.

thanks for the update. Art always makes me feel as if I am a liberal.

I’ll be praying for him. Art does a lot for this region and has been an influence on local politics for a long time. I hope he gets back on his feet soon.

[...] According to DelawarePolitics and Dana Pico, Art Downs had a heart attack today. Art is a contributor at the ill-named, Common Sense Political Thought site and often comes around spewing right-wing talking points and bamboozlement, but love him or hate him, he is a member of this community. I wish him well. [...]

My best wishes to Art on his recovery, and to his family for what they are going through.

Leave it to DL to politicize it.

    Get well Art, God Bless

Incredible, ain’t it Evan? I wonder why Perry didn’t lambaste them for doing that? I mean, he’s so sensitive, isn’t he? LOL!

    Art: Best wishes, my friend!

Best wishes Art. Please get well soon and give us many posts about health care.

Leave it to DL to politicize it.

Leave it to crank DP commenters to gin up a fake smear about politicization.

This isn’t politicizing the man who had a heart attack?

Anyway, let’s keep this SOMEWHAT civil ok?

Don’t worry: Art is proud of annoying the Delaware Liberals! :)

    Dana -
I just hate seeing people kicked when they are down…

Called Art today, He is doing alright. We will pray for Friday’s scheduled surgery. He had his sense of humor completely in tack. “I would like to see Paris before I die, but Philadelphia will do”, he joking said borrowing a quote. He thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers. He guessed GOD didn’t want him yet. Probably true, Art– you are still too ornery.

  13. on 15 Oct 2009 at 16:0813Tennessee Walker

DA Isn’t the quote on the tombstone of W.C. Fields.
“I’d rather be here than Philadelphia.”
I can’t wait for Art to get back. After all he is from Charm City Baltimore.

  14. on 15 Oct 2009 at 23:5214Tennessee Walker

Art will be having bypass surgery tomorrow. (I think it is a triple.)

  15. on 16 Oct 2009 at 09:3915Dana

One of his e-mail friends asked him if he saw a brilliant white light when he was near death. He said no, but he thought he saw a glowing river of magma. Not sure what that means.

I just got off the phone with a friend of the family — Mrs Downs had stepped out of the room for a while — and she said that Art was doing fine. The surgeon told them that there had been surprisingly little damage to his heart from such a major attack, and things were looking pretty good. They have just pulled out some of the various tubes stuck into Art, and he might actually go to a non-ICU room if one opens up this afternoon.

They now have my cell phone number, and I’m hoping for more information later today.
