Get Rid of Easter Break - Joan Deaver
Nov 7th, 2009 by Tennessee Walker
Anyone who is familiar with Joan Deaver knows that she is a liberal fruitcake of the first order. It does not take long to come to this conclusion. For those who actually listen to her in a conversation, this should take about 20 minutes. If one gets distracted it will take about an hour. In the end one should get the message.
I am not going to get into all of Deaver’s idiocy here, just her most recent one.
On October 24th Deaver made a motion at the Sussex County Council meeting to eliminate the term Easter from the Sussex County Council Vacation schedule. Joan of course is just doing her best in the liberal tradition of trying to eliminate all religious references to anything. Deaver has made the point that she had some complaints from a Jewish member of the Community.
My question for Joan is this :
Why is it that any time a liberal wishes to promote anti religous bigotry they tend to blame some invisible anonymous member of the Jewish Community as their rationale ??
Earth to Joan, this is what YOU want. Quit trying to blame the Jews. Don’t you think They have suffered enough without you using them as your lame excuse ???? This is what you want Joan. Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.
Now, I bet Joan can trot out a couple of liberal members of the Jewish Community who are willing to express their outrage that the Sussex Council calls their break an, Easter Break. I know I can find 10 times that number of Jewish folks who don’t care and think that Deaver’s actions are silly. (For the record my Jewish friends send me cards that say Merry Christmas and I send them Happy Hannukah cards. I also send them greetings on Yom Kippur and Passover. No Season’s Greetings crap for my Jewish friends!!!)
Joan’s motion failed for lack of a second. I forgot to mention that Joan is politically incompetent as well as being a liberal fruitcake.
After Joan’s failed motion, Council President Vance Phillips asked Deaver if “there were any other holidays she wished to trample on?”
Gotta love Vance!! That was such a great line. I wish I had said it.
Of Course Vance, Deaver wants to eliminate Christmas Break and any other reference to any Religious holiday. She is a liberal that is what they do and want.
Jud Bennett who supported Deaver after losing in a Republican Primary where NO candidate received a Republican party endorsement had this to day on his Coastal Conservative Newsletter.
“There is no doubt that my endorsement of her probably was the difference in her narrow 300 vote victory over Mark Baker who narrowly defeated me by the same number of votes in the Republican primary. That being said, I was mortified and distressed to hear her motion and comments at last week’s Council Meeting concerning the elimination of the word Easter in regard to Council vacation time. Frankly, I wanted to crawl under the seat in the Council Chambers.”
A brilliant letter from Mr. Bill Wong from Rehoboth Beach to the Cape Gazette had this to say. Definitely read the whole thing if you can at the Cape Gazette. It is Great!!!!
“This Tuesday, she tried again to scrub out traditional values from the council chamber.
Joan Deaver made a motion to remove the word “Easter” from the council vacation schedule and to replace it with “Spring,” citing unnamed constituents who were offended by it. Instead of vowing to try again next year, I think this community organizer needs to take a look at the community around her.”
Bill Wong, I loved your letter but get real. Liberals intend to CHANGE the Community around them wherever they go. Liberals want to move into a new area and than protest, insist, complain, and whine until they get their way. These are the people who move into a house next to chicken farms and then demand legislation because they don’t like the smell of chicken farms!!!!
This is what you get when you elect a Joan Deaver.

That reminds me - it’s almost time for the War On Christmas.
This year we are planning a sneak attack. We are going to distract you and break your morale with offers of food, drink and gifts.
Maybe we should keep Easter and forego Deaver. Pathetic waif.

And I’ll be wishing all a MERRY CHRISTMAS and sending out cards to all with the same message.
Congrats to Vance Philips for giving Joan a real Cleveland Steamer!
“Congrats to Vance Philips for giving Joan a real Cleveland Steamer!”
Vance does have a good sense of humor which is not always evident when he is in “official capacity”.
I agree with you. The secular progressive fringe won’t stop until defeated or they succeed in a religious cleansing resulting in a cultural aparthide. Some of these folks haven’t thought through were their actions would take them, but some have written about just that direction. Whether Evil or stupid, it does not pay to give these people the levers of power.
I have a kind of interesting story about this, eh, story.
I chanced to be at a monthly meeting in my fine position as member of the Sussex Countian Reader Board. We got to talking about Joan Deaver and her comment. Patrick Varrine I believe it’s spelled, is the editor of this newspaper.
At the recounting of this story, Patrick says he got a phone call from somebody who says there is no truth to this story at all, that we should not be repeating it.
I got confused because my husband, a fine, fine man he is, rarely prone to lies, was the one who repeated this story to me. In fact husband told me the bit about somebody asking her if she wanted to trash any other traditions. I even responded to husband that it had to be Vance Phillips saying this cause, duh, Vance is President of the council. Husband said that he wasn’t sure who said that but just so you know husband was very careful as he reiterated the tale from whereever he heard it around the very day it happened.
So I asked Patrick who phoned and denied the story to him because my husband seemed quite sure about it. Remember this all came down the day after or close to when it all went down. But I was distressed because my husband, he is so very, very accurate but here was the editor of the local yokel paper telling me not a word of it was true, that reliable sources had denied it upon his query.
I go home and kind of verbally smack down husband for telling that wrong story. I tell husband that editor of the newspaper was told it was not true. Husband says that’s damn odd because he heard the words right out of Joan Deaver’s mouth…on tape it was. Husband was quite miffed at being told he reiterated an untrue story.
I think it was on the WGMD web site or maybe WGMD played it on the air, I don’t know. Husband listens to WGMD all day. Anyway, so who told the editor of the Sussex Countian it was a lie?
I did tell Patrick before I left his office that day to check out his source cause my husband, a fine, fine man…rarely gets stuff like this wrong.
So I must assume that Patrick did re-check his source and likely discovered the truth but hey, it’s an interesting story, kind of puzzling.
In fact, it wasn’t until I read this all right here that I have it confirmed that it was Vance who asked Joan if she wanted to break any more traditions. Until now I just ASSumed.
And I sure didn’t know all that about Joe Booth and Deaver.
Interesting….all of it.
Dear Dave,
There may be issues on which you and I can agree. I believe that Delawareans should have the opportunity for Initiative and Referendum. I have voted to approve rezoning and conditional uses for many businesses. I believe that Sussex is poised for growth such as we have never seen and that we should have the infrastructure to accompany it. Without adequate infrastructure in place, the debt for building new roads and schools goes to everyone in the state. I do believe in Separation of Church and State but what we call Easter vacation is not a major issue for me. In fact I voted with the council to leave the words “Easter vacation” on the list. We have serious economic and environmental issues to deal with and changing a few words on a vacation list is not going to make much difference one way or another.
Sincerely,
Joan
Joan — Dave Burris is no longer here. I believe that’s who you’re addressing.
Thank you for the response councilwoman. We appreciate the fact that you will at least address the issues even if we disagree with your conclusions.
There are some Sussex County traditions that badly need trampling on. But there are gradually more and more right-minded Sussex Countians trying to overcome them, and I’m not from Sussex, so it’s not my place to enumerate them.
I think the councilwoman’s response here should be very instructive for this group. It often seems that the liberal positions that the right chooses to highlight, are often those that carry the least weight with liberals and do not define them.
On the other hand if you think about it, separation of church and state is more of an originalist postion than a liberal one.
I think Ms. Deaver defined herself. I know that socializing land use is more important, but this was worth an effort for her. The fact it did not even get a second likely led her to drop it quickly. I think she is brighter than TW gives her credit. I could be wrong.
To all,
Thank you for your kind words.
FYI religion is very important to me and I once considered becoming an Episcopal Nun like Sr. Seton. I’ll bet Vance Phillips wishes I had followed through with that instead of running for council!
The secular progressive fringe won’t stop until defeated or they succeed in a religious cleansing resulting in a cultural aparthide..
You have people in the BO administration who admire Mao- that’s right, 30-50 million murdered Mao- ‘Cultural Revolution’ Mao.
Today’s Socialist-Democrats are insane.
Deaver, you just don’t get it do you? You have single-handedly done more to advance Vance Phillips political carreer than ANYONE, including himself. Before he was just a Councilman, but he’s gotten so much favorable press out of this that he’s almost famous now because of you!
If you truly dislike him and his policies, I would keep your mouth shut. It’s helping him, and it’s only hurting you.
Humphrey,
As one who really likes Vance, I hope Joan doesn’t take your advice.
Joan Deaver apologized to day and tried to do damage control.
