The Steady rise in self identification as a conservative continued on with 40% of Gallup respondents describing themselves as conservatives. Self described Conservatives almost double the number of self descirbed liberals who come in at 21%. 36% describe themselves as moderates. In terms of self identification this is the highest number of conservatives in two decades. Another high was in 2003/2004.
In my view this represents the end of the Bush hangover and the desire by all but especially independents to distance themselves from the Obama radical experiment.
The liberals laughed and criticized the Tea Party movement but the fact is that the public gets it while the liberal elite does not. The Tea Party grass roots movment got people involved and they talked to their friends and neighbors.
While I salute this kind of grass roots expression of democracy, I still think that we can thank Barack Obama for this Conservative Ascendancy. Anyone who watches the Obama Keystone Kops approach to National Security and the Obama undemocratic attempts to socialize America can’t help to want to distance themselves from Obama.
