From The Mouth (Keyboard) of Your Friendly Pilotician
Apr 28th, 2009 by RSmitty
If you live under a rock, you may not have known that Mike Protack organized the Wilmington Tea Party. WOO HOO! Good for you…except that you’ve managed to tell many people on your own that you organized it. Usually, that’s spread word-of-mouth from other people, but hey, it was still a monumental task and planning events, particularly large events, can be an arduous task, indeed. That last part is genuine. The rest, if you know my attitude towards the pilotician, is not. I am as much as a non-Protack supporter as you can imagine (which you should know before reading the rest of this post), after having once been in 2006, including my contribution to his then-campaign. Again, in fairness, before continuing further, if you don’t know by now, the Pilotician and myself have zero love-loss for each other. The only person lower on the Pilotician’s totem pole may be Dave B, but that’s just a guess.
If you are a delegate to the DE State GOP Convention, you may not know that there is a rumor (emphasis on “rumor”) that there will be a nomination made from the floor for Vice Chair of the State Committee. Nevermind that the two current candidates have been canvassing committee meetings throughout the state for some time now. The rumor (emphasis on “rumor”) is that the Pilotician will be the subject of said nomination. Well, since that would quickly diminish any opportunity to challenge the nomination (clever thinking, by the way), let me challenge it right now. Rumor or not, given that most GOP’ers don’t go to Delaware Liberal, let me bring Delaware Liberal to you and some interaction with the Pilotician:
From Delaware Liberal post “Protack Flies Into The Future,” nemski (my new ideological-debating buddy) says:
The Community News had a piece about Mike Protack and his attempts to try and rebuild Delaware’s Republican Party through the use of web technologies.
Protack says:
I think the electorate sees the Republican Party as elitist or out of touch in a lot of ways. It’s up to us to change that, and any kind of social networking we can do to engage people is going to be a big help.
To that quote by the Pilotician, I commented, rather sharply, but it has become sharper over time as he refused to answer the question or my legitimate early overtures to bury the hatchet (it happened, he ignored it):
Wow. Even I will admit, that was rough, but recall history, if you will. It’s a fair question, one that historically has no response.
Wait, there was a response! Immediately thereafter, “Delaware Republican”, aka Mike Protack says:
Whoa! That’s some prime-PR communicating over these inter-tubes, there, Mike! Hey, here’s some advice for you, and it comes from one of my son’s favorite shows, Phineas and Ferb:
Fame is fleeting, but the internet is forever.
Yeah, those words are forever.
There is your RUMORED from-the-floor Vice Chair candidate, people. Mr. Unity. How’d that IPoD nomination go, after your attacks against Bill Lee failed, by the way? You know, the one you blamed on the IPoD when you quit?

Now Smitty, I was just at regional delegate training last pm, and didn’t hear word one of this.
The time is NOW SMITTY!!!!
JC – You probably didn’t hear about it, because it would diminish the effect of doing it from the floor.
I was supposed to be there last night, too, but my son had a baseball game and that’s another one of my heart-on-my-sleeve moments – I won’t choose this at their expense.
Protack’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose.
It always amazes me how a freakin’ politician — who by very definition relies on the PEOPLE to win elections — dumps on people the way he does.
Not that I ever see him winning anything, but if he does, I’ll just skip whatever office it may be (and it’s always a good guess, given Protack) in the voting booth.
“Rsmitty, total loser, coward and whiner. Stay at your keyboard and pontificate about things you know nothing about. You are as important as the piece of dried up gum on the bottom of my shoe.”
A Vice Chair who inspires open, good spirited debate within the party would be beneficial for the Delaware GOP. I’m thinking it’s not the guy who runs attack ads against fellow GOPers and engages in internet thuggery.
And Smitty, did he call you a “loser”? Didn’t you win the last campaign you were involved in? Hmmm…I can’t recall…how has Protack been doing in his campaign attempts?
The last two…and my only two, at that. I fear not one bit that he will tie nor even halve that record.
Mike Protack did not coordinate the Wilmington Tea Party. The tea party was coordinated by Jon Sherman. Mike, along with others contributed to make the tea party a success. We had well over 800, if not 1,000 at the event.
Also Mike is not running for any office within the state GOP party structure. This is a rumor and a false statement.
If I had a word-cloud, “rumor” may have been the big word…or Pilotician, maybe both.
As soon as I heard it from two people at different times and places, it was fair game to make the rumor known. Given past experiences, I have no reason to think if I presented it to him, I would get a straight answer, anyway. Conversely, I’m sure he says the same about me, given that I am as useful to him as a dried up piece of gum on the bottom of his shoe. So, just to be certain, in case a blitz-play was made from the floor, people should have a chance to be prepared for the event.
BTW, he didn’t coordinate the Wilmington Tea Party? That just may end up confusing many bloggers in these parts, called Delaware. It’s been widely circulated around blogs that he coordinated the event, but credit hasn’t shown to be deflected when and where it was given (unlike blame in other cases).
Jason, I do respect you and I know this pisses you off, and I do apologize for that part, but it goes beyond that. I was burned in the period after 2006 and that does not happen to me twice.
Rumor? Mike Protack needs a shortcut to political success. The normal political grind of making friends, raising money, being helpful, sitting through committee meetings, and creating value behind the scenes does not seem to appeal to the feisty leatherneck.
(For people who don’t read DL)
I heard that back in FEB. Mike hasn’t mentioned it to me, but anything is possible. Since Jason is closer to Mike than I, I take his word on this as the official stance.
While we are on the subject, do you have a pick? I have a recording of one of the regional meetings and I have to say that John Davis seems a lot more prepared for the job.
