Fatalism among Democrats building
Sep 3rd, 2010 by David Anderson
Is the House gone? That is what Democrat strategists are privately conceding. The candidates don’t believe it, but the staffers are looking for work just in case. More than an 100 seats are in play and the DCCC just bought ads in 54 districts. There is a saying in battle that if your men think they are going to die, it will probably happen. Fatalism is self fulfilling. In this case, it is likely realism. 4 years was a nice run for Speaker Pelosi. It is time to send her back to the minority.
Democrats have governed contrary to the will of the people. It was a gamble and they lost. There health care bill is raising premiums not cutting them. Their stimulus bill was poorly crafted and the increase in debt absorbed capital to fund government bonds that would have gone into the private sector. The result is that while it created jobs, it also cost jobs which resulted in stagnet growth and fixed high unemployment. There energy proposals and pending tax hikes have a trillion in investment dollars sitting in Money market funds waiting to see what happens. Venture capital is on life support. New products and inventions are on hold.
The best thing you can do for America is tell your friends, don’t vote democratic, we can’t afford it.

Here’s some fatalism from a Republican. What’s going to change if the GOP wins all those seats? The D’s at least tell you up front that you’re screwed. The R’s promise the world and change their tune once they get to Disney on the Potomac. We didn’t get to where we are today solely because of Obama and the D’s.
“Democrats have governed contrary to the will of the people.”
Not 100% wrong. It depends what people you are talking about. The will of Congressional Republicans and bankers were given far too much weight.
I can understand what you’re saying, Anbupro, but I sense something different will happen this time. No matter what the final tallies are, every R that ran under the fiscal conservative, anti-healthcare bill, anti-stimulus bill mantra will be constantly held under the microscope by his/her constituents to make sure they fulfill their campaign promises. Every vote will be scrutinized and those elected will hear from their constituents more frequently.
I think the days of electing someone then forgetting about them are over. R’s are going to have a tough time of it to keep their seats, no matter if they are in the majority or not.
What Shirley said. Nicely done, Shirl.

That will never happen when Republicans are in power. Teabagz are lying and/or misled about their premises. They don’t have the strength of character to follow through on principles when FOX is no longer egging them on.
alpha,
Even when it fails to happen, (and fail it will) the brainless Oompa Lumpa commenters here and the tbagz across the nation will continue to slave away as oarsmen on the GOP’s gluttonous yacht of corporate excess.

Yeah! Y’know, sort of like how Trust Fund and the brainless DLers do with the Democrats all the time!
The funny thing is, the first thing a Republican House will do is pass a stimulus. But they’ll call it a “tax cut” to “put money back in the hands of consumers” and send checks to rich and poor alike. Or if they are really pissy they will send it only to “people who pay taxes.” And Obama will sign it.
Just like when Bush borrowed all that money and sent everybody in America a check, rich and poor alike. He did that several times, as I recall.
tell your friends, don’t vote democratic, we can’t afford it.
Republican plans are even more unaffordable. So you are saying third-party, then?
Choo-choo! Chugga Chugga Chugga Chugga Right around the bend (and off the rails)
Taxed Enough Already!
Who, the multi-millionares exercising loopholes, sending jobs over seas and protecting both corporate interests and cheap labor ala illegal immigrants?
If you really think that poorly of the American electorate not only will 2010 be a crushing disappointment to you but independents will sit home before they pull an R again. Keep up the good work, though. No one can cannibalize like y’all.
Jason
If you had even the glimpse of a clue of what’s going on, I could comment on your idiocy.
We’ll see what the GOP does with their opportunity and we’ll see if many Americans are as fiscally conservative as they say they are. Plenty of people will say they are for smaller gov’t until: a military base in their area gets closed under BRAC, or the Social Security eligibility age gets raised, or some other form of federal gov largesse gets yanked. If people can accept that and fend for themselves, fine. But if they all start crying because their free lunch is being taken from them we might as well put the Dems back in to tax and spend us into oblivion.
This isn’t about fiscal conservatism; it’s about hate whipped up by FOX News and AM talk radio. Or more precisely, the hate was already there, but the media amplifies it and organizes it.
The House is already lost…the key is the Senate. The R’s have about seven fairly solid pickups(AR,MO,CO,PA,IN,DE,ND), and should hold FL (Rubio)…to get over the needed ten, the keys will be WI (Feingold), WA (Murray), CA (Boxer), IL (open) and NV (Reid). Carry three of those last five, and it’s an ‘R’ Senate.
From ‘RealClearPolitics:
President Barack Obama’s spending Labor Day afternoon in Milwaukee at an annual union festival. It’s quite a party: Parade organizers were still looking for volunteers to help carry the giant protest puppets of the Earth Goddess and such. Pity, then, that Russ Feingold, the incumbent Democratic senator in a neck-and-neck race, can’t hang out with the president.
But Obama and puppetry just aren’t the right atmospherics these days, are they?
Feingold, three terms in office and now tied with a plastics manufacturer no one heard of five months ago, will be at Laborfest earlier in the day. By afternoon, he’ll have scampered far from Obama, to a parade in his hometown, Janesville, where the General Motors bailout didn’t save the truck plant and unemployment is now double-digit
So much for ‘The Messiah.’
