DP To Continue
Jun 26th, 2009 by admin
DA will be continuing to operate this site after my departure. Elbert, Maria & John will continue on with him, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some additions on top of that.
I will have a final post after Tuesday’s session.
One thought, for now: the ability to win an election does not disqualify you from being an incompetent coward. Most of the elected officials in Delaware are proving to be just that, and those in power are cementing that as their legacy.
Now — right now — is one of those rare times that calls out desperately for a leader. A real leader. Not some pussyfoot bullshit negotiation between the Governor and the House Minority (who are working feverishly to retain that title) over 600 jobs by attrition. Attrition is a piss poor way to reduce costs. Just because a job is vacated doesn’t mean it’s not worth filling.
We need a leader. You know who you are, and you know what to do.
I’ll be back on Wednesday with some parting thoughts.

Glad to see that the site will continue. DP brings an additional dimension to the political discussion. Hard hitting support of policies that actually work. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
Thanks for the good news Dave, even with the site still here we will still miss your regular posts.
I am pretty encoraged by your hints at a potential leader steping up to the plate soon. I can’t wait to find out who and what you are refering to.
I couldn’t agree more with all three of you.
Since it was asked of me last night, David Anderson did in fact ask me to stay. He even mentioned that it would be welcomed to have a centrist voice on this blog. I politely declined and it has nothing at all to do with David. I respect David. When it was announced that this blog was shutting down, on the heels of my revelation about my father, the “shutting down” suddenly became symbolic to me for taking a break and allowing my life to catch back up again.
Blogging is addictive to most and I am one of them. Not necessarily just the posts, but keeping up with comments here, there, and everywhere; not to mention, who in the eff is (or are) kavips? kavips, you freak! So, blogging is addictive, yes. In the method of debt-detoxing I am putting myself through right now (you have to have read older posts and my comment trails on DL to know about this), I am somewhat applying to blogs, too. I am in no way going away, but must focus on some changes, which this “break” will help.
I’m not talking staying away completely, I’m sure I will comment, but maybe a couple of weeks. I’m taking a vacation is probably more like it.
Hasta Luego!
RSmitty, Independent-Republican
Thank you for the comment Smitty. We agree a lot more than we disagree. I think that sometimes it is easy to surround one’s self with voices that share the same counsel, but I do not think that it is the wise course. I think that the blog will be a bit more conservative in the coming weeks judging from the new additions, but I hope and pray that we do not lose the ability to speak truth to power that you brought. I think the liberals will have a true counterweight, but I think we will be more diverse in our perspective than the other side. We will continue to differ on occasion. That is healthy. There is a spectrum of right of center thought. I hope that we will represent most of it/ at least the mainstream portion.
I hope we get another woman on board. Thankfully we have Maria. She is an amazing communicator. Elbert is a committed and seasoned blogger who has his finger on the pulse of the community. When John Feroce comes back this fall, we will have a true leader of this party in the forefront of helping to shape the public discussion. I am a pretty informed person. I am excited about the two new contributors who will start next week. Both have commented here and I know them personally. They will bring two different experiences to their posts that will benefit the public and represent us well. One already has had a guest opinion.
Without Burris and Smitty, this blog is taking a definitive turn to the far right, focused on social Conservatism, an absolutist approach to politics that is unconvincing to me, and damaging to the country, in my view.
Fortunately Maria is still there, a pragmatist who has become issue oriented and interesting. I like that. And John is responsive and up for good debate and discussion.
Sorry David, you have changed into a right wing party hack, with whom there is little discussion and lots of pontification. We don’t solve problems this way!
Perry, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised. When it comes to the discussion and reason the new contributors will bring. Yes, they will be conservative. They will be Republican. They will be likable and intelligent.
Personally, I think that the Democrats are in charge. If I have a problem, I tend to point it out. When Republicans were in charge, I pointed it out then. Now the Democrats are in charge so I reserve my criticism almost solely for the people who are governing. The reason that I think you believe that I have changed is because I literally despise what is happening to my country. At times it is hard to contain the discontent. There are days when I feel like Michele Bachman. I just filter better. I will try to dial it back more often. I will have more discussion and occasional pontification.
What I and many others have worked for for decades is being dismantled. That is worth fighting for. The administration has an accelerated agenda. A lot of people are deeply concerned and I am expressing it. The differences that I have with fellow Republicans are meaningless. I am more interested in protecting the values that made this country than worrying about shades of policy between the same side.
I doubt that the blog will take a far right turn focused on any one strain of conservatism. What is the point of an echo chamber. There would be no need to invite anyone else if everything will be a like.
I will take your critique under advisement on a personal level. As you know, I love policy discussions. You can’t blame me for not posting specific policies on the state level. I addressed electoral college allocation, budget reforms, tax policy, business regulation, and education testing. Some issues like the marriage issue came up not because I brought them up. They were in the news. I tend not to be topic driven. I tend to address news events. People just like to focus on something that gets their attention even on the federal level. It inspires comments and posts on a lot of other blogs therefore it may have seemed the focus.
How many posts did I do on the cap and trade and the President’s energy bill in the last 6 months? Which ones got the most discussion? The couple that I expressed frustration with it in attention getting ways like “green goons”.
With that said, I will insure that I spend time engaging. It is my desire to recreate a policy forum as well as entertain sometimes. This blog has done both. With your help and frankness, it will do both. In a month, you will buy in. Next year, you will be amazed at our General Assembly coverage and the election coverage will be the best in the state for both Delaware and key races across America.
I think that other issues will come to the forefront because the legislature will not be focusing on social issues. They will be out of session. This summer will likely discuss health care, the economy, national security, energy, and the supreme court hearings. There will definitely be pontification on the 4th. I plan to profile Ryan and Colburn’s health plan. If the Congress brings up social issues, I promise they will be addressed. This hate crimes bill is not written properly. It is the new patriot act.
I don’t understand how when the left decides to change the social order that people who say stop are the ones treated like they are the ones making trouble. I will never back down from a fight and I will explain why it matters in detail sometime in the future. The culture matters more than the economy. Was superstar Michael Jackson happier than my friend preacher Mike Jackson? No, but Michael had 30,000 times more money than Mike. It is like that Darius Rucker song Alright. “I got a roof over my head, the women I love laying in my bed, I’ve got shoes on my feet. I’ve got everything I love staring back at me. When I lay down at night I thank the Good Lord above for giving me everything that I need. I’ve got all I need and it’s alright by me.”
David, I appreciate your passionate response and your statement of goals for this blog. I have an interest in many of the topics you plan to cover, so I’ll be looking in and possibly commenting every once in a while.
waste no time seeking praise or approval from the Perry’s of the world. to achieve it you must sell your soul.
they are the enemy of your priciples, and will remain our enemy as slong as you are true to your principles.
Thank you for that affirmation.
I do remember a lesson from my father. Sometimes the best friend can be your honest critic. As I said, I will not back off from a fight. I promise that you and other conservatives will find this your home of choice on the internet.
I do understand what he means. Sometimes we can get so into drawing lines that we forget the point isn’t to yell at each other, but to start a dialog that can make a difference. As you can tell, I believe in civility. It won’t mean that I won’t get your attention in creative and provocative ways on many occasions. It will mean that I will remember that this is not about me or my thoughts. What I think is my contribution, but I don’t want it to stop there.
I think part of the way of doing it is to be proud of our principles and present them in a way that resonates with the public.
annoni: “waste no time seeking praise or approval from the Perry’s of the world. to achieve it you must sell your soul.”
A statement of weakness here, from a person who fears debate and discussion, for fear it will rock his/her absolutist credo, and go against his/her desire to dictate.
I’m sure that David is more than capable of pushing back at people of my persuasion, oh purveyor of little faith, annoni.
I am and will, but sometimes you happen to be right. Why fight for the sake of fighting. We have UFC (Ultimate Fight Club) for that.
I agree with you that annoni need not fear. The intellectual banter that we have is unique and entertaining. That is what sets this blog apart from many others. To keep that you really have to remember that your opponents are also your guests and if you insult them, they may go away and everyone loses. My best work comes after I am challenged on its weakness. We can not be a majority voice again until we can answer our critics and speak beyond our own circle. I believe that as a whole our conservative philosophy of governance is the best one. We need to show that to our state in a compelling way.
This blog will be a chance to sharpen our message. A powerful message will be our key to victory. It will also give us a chance to see what is really dumb and drop it. Everyone has dumb ideas, but you don’t know until they are tested. I value the testing process. Edison took a thousand tries at the light bulb. I am glad that he didn’t make an hundred. He understood the value of refining an idea. I have a feeling that all of you do as well.
typical perry.
nothing in my post said or suggested ‘don’t debate or discuss’
I don’t seek to be a “good Republican” in your eyes.
I don’t care if you approve of my goals, methods, stratagies or tactics.
you are welcome to give up your evil ways and join me on the side of rightousness.
LOL, you think Perry is bad about telling you how to be a Republican, you should see all of the free advise Pandora and Jason give us. I am excited that we will get our message out unfiltered.
