What do you expect from the left wing liberal mass media? Katie Couric was practically combative in her interviews at the Republican National Convention last night. This was in stark contrast to her fawning over anyone and everyone at the DNC event last week.

God forbid that a young, successful mom with a family that has had it’s share of issues run for elected office. Do you know what this tells me? She’s not some elitist policy wonk or political operative, she’s just like the rest of us. She knows what she believes, she lives her beliefs, she’s faced challenges and let her moral compass guide her. She and Senator McCain have my vote, because I CAN relate to them.

How is Governor Palin any different from Senator Obama, they both have young children?

How about putting Mr. Palin on the cover with his wife and write how he’s proud of her accomplishments and how they work as partners to help each other achieve their career, family and life goals? How about how they face their challenges together. Oops, can’t do that, it might put a positive spin on a Republican candidate.

People are people, people. The “partisan” politics are being perpetuated by the media because if they weren’t, the ink would dry up!!!

    Scandals – no verdict yet

Lies – The liberal left lied and said she claimed her daughter’s baby as her own

Babies – She’s holding her baby son in the picture!

This is typical of the disgusting engagement of politics of personal destruction

    Great job Tom, perfectly stated.

Let me just make a quick comparison: Palin was mayor of a town of approx. 7,000, and then Alaskan governor for 20 months. McCain, having met her precious few times, feels she’s ready for the vice presidency.

Consider that scenario molded to fit Delaware: if, for example, former Seaford mayor and now state rep Dan Short were to be elected governor of Delaware in 2012, by McCain’s logic, he’d be ready for the vice presidency in 20 months.

Actually, considering his time at Legislative Hall, that would give Short MORE political experience than Palin.

I like Danny Short just fine, but I’m not ready to vote him as my vice president. Another way to look at it is this: Minner has been governor of a state with 200,000 more people than Alaska for nearly four times as long as Palin. Would you want HER to be your veep? That’s kind of a loaded question, but my point is experience.

    Just something to consider.

Re: the US covers… someone find me Barack’s pregnant teen daughter, and then we’ll talk… or doesn’t anyone remember all the Rev. Wright hubbub?

  7. on 03 Sep 2008 at 14:167Badmon3333

Also, let’s not hold US Weekly up as the standard-bearer for political journalism… they’re trying to move magazines off the Wal-Mart racks, and they’re not exactly the Weekly Standard.

  8. on 03 Sep 2008 at 14:188John Feroce

“Re: the US covers… someone find me Barack’s pregnant teen daughter, and then we’ll talk…”

She’s holding her own son! Her daughter is not on the cover. The far left was saying that her son was really her daughter’s, don’t try and bury that part of the story that prompted this cover.

First of all, to characterize “Peoples Magazine” as “the media” is assinine.

Secondly, to characterize the media as “left-wing” is just as assinine!

What about “The Diane Rehm Show”, “The Jim Lehrer News Hour”, “All Things Considered”.

Accpting for a moment your characterization of Katie Couric, for every “Katie Couric” there is a Sean Hannity, a Bill O’Reilly, a Michael Savage, a Rush Limbaugh, a Laura Ingraham, a Matt Drudge, a Glen Beck, a Karl Rove, a Neal Boortz, a Dennis Prager, a Pat Robertson, the late Jerry Falwell, a Fred Phelps. Shall I go on?

This myth the media being left wing, when there is a robust right wing extremist component, has got to be exposed. So let’s set that one straight!

On Sarah Palin, you on the extreme right are so desperate that you are clinging to this woman like a dried up noodle clings to the cooking pot.

Cannot you wait until we find out more about this woman? There are legitimate questions being raised about her. If she is to be one heartbeat away from being the POTUS, shouldn’t all responsible citizens want to know much more about her? There have already been some valid questions raised about her alleged experience and about her alleged actions that might make me quite nervous about her qualifications.

Her speech tonight should be interesting to watch, perhaps revealing too. Let us see if she does any more than introduce herself in her own words and attack Obama/Biden. Let us see if she addresses any of our huge issues, like the Iraq War, like the Afghanistan War, like the credit crisis, like inflation and the economy, like the energy prices, like the education shortfall, like jobs going overseas, like the failing automobile industry, like homeland security….

Admit it now, John and Tom, you/we hardly know this woman. Should we not take a very critical look at her?

    Correction: “US Magazine”.

“First of all, to characterize “Peoples Magazine” as “the media” is assinine.” Correction: “US Magazine”.

It’s not the media? What? Look who owns it, just some small company – who also happens to own ABC!

  12. on 03 Sep 2008 at 16:0712JohnnyX

Come on, John, it’s not an “attack.” A cover featuring a potential future VP holding a baby with the headline “Babies, Lies, and Scandal” serves one purpose and one purpose only – intriguing people enough that they buy the magazine. The crowd who buy US magazine are the same ones who love TMZ and The Insider and all that crap and they for the most part could care less about Sarah Palin’s political views and accomplishments – they care about being the first one to hear the newest dirt and gossip about her. I’m not saying the cover is right or just, but it’s not the least bit surprising.

  13. on 03 Sep 2008 at 16:0813meatball

    John,
Your source is outdated by about 2years. The 50% stake Disney held was purchased by Wenner Media in 2006. When Disney was a partner, US Weekly was an entertainment rag rather than the gossip rag that it is today.

That said, Wenner Media also publishes Rolling Stone magazine which obviously has a left bent to its politics.

    JohnnyX
Your comments are valid, that said I still believe a bias can co-exist with your point.

    Thanks for the update.

FDR had two years as governor, he turned out all right. Governors learn the essentials of governing. Successful governors tend to be successful Presidents. The historical record says the length of time doesn’t matter. Ruth Ann Minner was not a successful governor, there is no reason to believe she would be a successful President though I bet she could handle VP. VP’s go to funerals, go to meetings, and give advice. That is why I thought a Clinton Obama ticket would be the worse case senario for the GOP. He would gain what he needed as VP and we could face 12 to 16 years of Democrat rule. Fortunately the Democrats didn’t see it that way.

Sarah Palin has experience, but the reason we see her as qualified is what she made of the experience.

Whoo boy you fellas sure spin it like a wagon wheel in a whirlwind. Anonymous bloggers are being held to a journalistic standard and a check out line impulse rags are now the journal of record. You all keep them heads buried in the sand; not only do your asses look funny but McCain is going down in flames. As sure as god made little green apples one of you will come up blasting McNasty for the pick soon to be followed by a chorus. See you next week!

  18. on 03 Sep 2008 at 19:0618Tom D'Alessandro

Let’s talk about qualifications. Sarah Palin and her husband have run several successful small businesses. They know what it takes to make payroll and to have staff who’s livelihood depends on you. So let’s factor that into the experience argument.

Her husband is Republican and a card carrying union member, so yet another sterotype is gone.

Sens. Obama & Biden have succesfully spent our tax money. Have either of them contributed anything to our economy by rolling up their sleeves and pursued the American dream? No, they both have spent a lifetime collecting a government paychecks. Have either of them served in ANY executive capacity, having to set strategy and to create and bring a vision to reality? No. Now they want to dip into my pocket to their programs? No.

The left wing liberal media has been kneeling at the feet of Sen. Obama since he entered the race. He’s an insider, whose only claim to courage is not collecting a pay check from Wall Street? Please!

Joe Cass says…”not only do your asses look funny but McCain is going down in flames.”

McCain is perfectly positioned to take this race, so I’d skip the bravado.

Sarah Palin has the leadership and the dedication of service to be a change agent in the White House. She has executive experience and is not a part of the permanent political establishment and I’m proud that she is not….because we need Change that we can Really believe in, and that is John McCain and Sarah Palin!

  22. on 04 Sep 2008 at 08:5022NosyNeighbor

She’s the breath of fresh-air that I’ve been waiting for from this party. It’s about time! I can relate to this woman is so many ways. She’s remarkable and a role model for all American women, young and old. Bravo President McCain for bucking the system once again and giving the people what they need and deserve.

  23. on 04 Sep 2008 at 09:2223Perry Hood

Yes, again, she has energized the base.

She has also taken off the gloves, so that in near future stump speeches and debates, she is fair game, just as McCain, Obama and Biden are as well.

Expect an onslaught from the extreme elements of both parties.

Now listen ladies: Please do not accuse Biden or anyone else of bullying this woman. She has shown herself more than willing to step into the fray, so don’t complain if the fur begins to fly.
